If you can develop an interest in the ‘all or nothing’ sports documentaries, and don’t mind watching it for different sports, then you got a lot of stuff to view. I have only watched the Man City one, it’s ok nothing great but an easy watch.

Oh yeah, The Boys. That must be Amazon's big hit given how hard they have leaned into (proposed) spin offs and viral marketing. I've never got the impression Amazon have as large a slate of shows, even compared with small services like Apple TV.

After me wondering about it only yesterday, I see S2 of Uploaded is arriving on March 11th.

Also, I see A Hero was added today. Directed by Asghar Farhadi, supposed to be really good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,386 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

Not part of All or Nothing but the Crystal Palace one When Eagles Dare is quite good.

Watched 'The Loft' earlier easy keep guessing type of watch but payoff bland enough it's about 5 lads who are in on an apartment a place they can stray away from wives, a mysterious death has the 5 keyholders questioning their friends and how they can get out of the predicament.

Only found out it was a remake of a Belgian movie afterwards which is perhaps better. James Marsden,Karl Urban, lad from Prison Break and Rachael Taylor were all in this one.

Started watching Key & Peele during the week, the two lads are excellent are sketches. Seen a good few clips on YouTube but said I'd watch the show, well worth a watch if you are into that kind of thing

  • Registered Users Posts: 94 ✭✭someyoke

Poor fare generally on prime these days alright, one decent watch I found recently was 'Accussed' directed by Jimmy McGovern. Stand alone hour episodes.

Lots of price hike stories flying around

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

The Irish price has always been way lower than others because you didn't get any of the benefits of Prime offered in the UK, or US. Not sure if that will change with the opening of an Irish warehouse though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 899 ✭✭✭DrZeuss

Yeah seeing that too, if there is a price increase I'll probably drop it. There isn't an awful lot on the platform in terms of new releases, might be better to just get a month when something good pops up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,109 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

I've dropped it already - it was handy for free deliveries but I'm trying to be a bit more prudent this year and I've gone months where I mightn't have watched anything on Prime. My sub runs out on Tuesday. Going to watch Reacher over the weekend and I'll sub for the month when the new season of Boys is up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭Xaniaj

I cancelled it last month once The Expanse ended. I wouldn't mind watching Reacher but I'll wait until I have a few shows lined up and binge them for the month. Definitely the future of steaming will be cycling through the services

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,480 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

Looks like all 8 episodes of Reacher are available which is surprising as I thought they were being released one at a time.

Watched episode 1 last night, main character is a bit wooden but huge improvement on Cruise, fight scenes quite good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,480 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

Have watched 5 myself and enjoying them so far. Jack Reacher is definitely more suited to this mini-series format compared to the movies.

I would be a fan of Cruise but he was no Reacher. Definitely better casting in the series and much more realistic fight scenes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,109 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

Don't think your man is wooden at all as Reacher. Really enjoying him and his interplay with the other characters. On episode 6 and we'll be finished it this evening. Totally recommend this.

Finished Clarkson's Farm a few weeks back - while there are plenty of funny moments it did drag a little bit in parts. The first and last episodes were the highlight for me.

2 decent watches for me recently on prime. 'I want you back' solid indie rom com with Charlie Day. Sharp script and dialogue with some good laughs. Wouldn't usually be a genre for me but quite enjoyed it. 'Copshop' with Grillo and Butler , enjoyable brainless action movie with assault on prescient 13 vibes. Both 7/10 for me.

    Uploaded S2 - March 11th

    The Wilds S2 - May 6th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Is Uploaded worth catching up on before Season 2? I remember skipping it at the time of release because critics were a little luke warm but I could be wrong.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

You know, I'm struggling to remember most of it. I don't think it was hilariously funny, it was more like gentle humour? I completely forgot about it until a few months ago when I was watching something else with Robbie Amell in it.

Out of interest I went back through this thread to see if it was discussed before and there's one post from me saying I was 4 eps in and it wasn't what I expected but I was enjoying it 🤷‍♀️

I doubt that's much help to you but for what it's worth I don't finish things if I don't like them, so..... I guess I liked it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

That's exactly the type luke warm reaction I recall at the time. I think given Greg Daniels track record it was considered to be a bit of a let down.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I had no idea it was one of his shows. For what it's worth, I started Space Force a few weeks ago and stopped after like 3 eps, so I'd definitely say Uploaded is better than that.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

It's all right. Distinctly "nothing special". Comedy's a bit flat, drama's a bit flat, satire's a bit toothless. It has a sweet heart though

I watch about 2 or 3 episodes and thought it was ok, a bit of light fluff. Never bothered finishing it

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,483 ✭✭✭Caquas

The Father is a deeply moving story about an issue which affects very many families but which rarely features in films. I have never seen this theme handled more humanely.

Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman are tremendous as father/daughter struggling with his dementia. Hopkins deservedly won the Best Actor Oscar last year for his performance (while tucked up in bed in Wales!). Coleman is marvellous as his middle-aged daughter whose marriage is cracking under the strain of caring for her cantankerous and increasingly disoriented father. (She is wasted on that Lost Child mish-mash which only the critics and pseudos can love.).

A brilliant script makes The Father lively and engaging, never mawkish, but it is not an easy watch. Set design and cinematography subtly draw you into his world and its confusions.

    Five stars!

I watched 2 very different but very enjoyable films on Prime today.

First was The Surprise, a Dutch film, which surprisingly was partly filmed here in Ireland. It's a slightly dark rom-com, I guess, but there's some surprises in there too. I saw it described as absurdist humour earlier, which might be more accurate than calling it a rom-com. It's funny, charming, sweet, kind of sad, and really very enjoyable.

Then I watched Blue My Mind, which is a terrible title, but a great film. Its billed as coming of age mixed with body horror, which is kind of accurate but doesn't paint the whole picture. I'm told the trailer spoils the whole film so I'd go in blind if you fancy watching it. It's a Swiss film, about Mia, a 15 year old girl who starts at a new school just as puberty hits and she finds herself going through some major changes. Probably not for everyone, there's some gore, I guess, but not too much.
