I hate you all for not playing Absolver.

Sifu is the next game from Sloclap, the studio behind terribly under-loved fighting game Absolver. There are a lot of ways Absolver is good, but its best feature is the ability to customize your fighting style, mixing and matching moves to create your own complex rhythm. As a fan of 1978 Jackie Chan movie Drunken Master, I spent a long time developing my skills with Absolver's clumsy-looking Stagger-style moves, and had just as much fun testing myself against other players as I did experimenting with movesets on AI fighters.

This looks ****ing class! I love martial art games but never gave absolver a proper go. I played 10 minutes of it, like most ps plus games and moved on. Must go back for another go.

Like 'Yie Ar Kung Fu' and Virtua Fighter! with some Yakuza thrown in

Never heard of Absolver, but then I really only got back into gaming last year after a break of about 4!

SP only suits me just fine, means they can concentrate all their efforts into the story, looking interesting, love the style.

That game is one of those games thats just a ****ing gem, you may find some players to be super high level but you can play it solo or coop.

The fighting part of it is just amazing once you get the hang of it, which can be tough.

The aging thing is quite genius if you can start the game as an old man (new game +++++++) type of ****.

Absolver imo was brilliant because of the deck system and let you make your own fighting style, whether the deck worked or not well that was trial and error. The main issue was other players, you could beat 1 or 2 in a row easily then get literally murdered by the next guy. A game with massive amounts of options via the decks was always gonna go that way.

Now Sifu is focusing on one style with a large amount of moves, reviews I read have not specifically mentioned how this new deck system works or if it even exists. One of the issues with the AI in Absolver was repetitiveness in once you figured out their style they were easy only "named" dudes changed it up, but you got their moves if you beat them so that was cool.

Dunno todays previews and videos have underwhelmed me, expected a better focused story with better deck building seems its the former and not the latter :(

I've only watched the first one, the IGN one, and I have to say it looks right up my street. He made a reference to Sleeping Dogs, and I loved the fighting in that, so I'm more excited for this now. Have to curb it though! I'll let ye know how I get on in Feb, because not knowing about games before playing them is a pleasure I try to keep these days. Sleeping Dogs/Arkham combat is what I took from this, and the roguelike features are interesting, especially the temp vs permanent idea. Any outside of the first video, I don't know about and I'll keep it that way. I'd imagine this will be a €30/40 game, so it'll be a day 1 for me going on what I know about it.

I thought there was a discount if you preorder it but it's just for the deluxe edition. I'd also prefer a physical copy but that won't be out until spring. I might have to put this off for a while with dying light and Elden Ring this month but i REALLY want to play it.

You know what, as much as i want it, i think I'll wait for the physical copy. Not sure of replay value yet and getting stuck with a 40 euro digital game can be a pain when I'm done with it.
