Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Home in 66 and no fkin idea how he played really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

Finished with a 66 and currently in second place, one shot off the lead and one shot ahead of four players in tied third. Some of these players are still on the course, so Seamus may be joined in second or even move down a place or two by the time the round is finished.

2 putts that I saw. Much better to show Mickelson holing out 26 shots behind. It’s bizarre.

Would loved to have seen that outward nine.

He seems to be in a good frame of mind for the challenge ahead.

It would be great to see Seamus do well tomorrow and Lowry do well in Abu Dhabi.

    I reckon he'll win tomorrow.

Tonight could be a big, big night for him, he has a great chance to win. No one ahead of him has won recently (I think) and he has a nice lead on the big guns like Cantlay and Rahm. Fingers crossed, at least we'll get to see him tonight. Either way he will make good inroads on his world and fedex rankings with a high finish tonight.

It’s the same when Eldrick plays. The audience in USA rather see these players hit shots than players in contention. If the viewers want that and they bring in ad revenue then we are stuck with it

The Sky coverage of Seamus was disgraceful. I’m getting rid of Sky as soon as I can find another means of watching sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,785 ✭✭✭Trampas

they get us feed. Nothing they can do about it unless they send over a crew. You’ll be happy to pay extra for that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭boardise

Seamus can certainly do it , For this to happen he needs to make hay on the par 5s ( Barjon is 12 under on them so far !) and avoid 3 putts,

If he makes a play-off I wouldn't doubt his mental fortitude.

Could be a massive year for Irish golf with Shane also looking potent early on ...and we still have Leona to come,

Should also say that Padraig can make a big splash on the Champions tour to add to the jollity.

Paddy can still mix it with the big boys, only a few lip outs from being right in the mix today and 4th in a major last year.

Disastrous start for Seamus according to the PGA website. Looks like a reload from the tee and in the fairway bunker on his third. Very disappointing start to his round.

Double bogey to start. Hopefully Seamus can recover from here one hole at a time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,785 ✭✭✭Trampas

    That’s his winning chance over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,741 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

A nightmare start . Reminds me off Lowry this morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Oof, an ugly flashback to Seamus of old, but he's a different player now, so hopefully he can work back into it 🤞

Hopefully that's the only similarity to Shane's round from earlier.

Disappointing that both Irish contenders today each had dreadful opening holes.

Bad first hole for the 2 irish contenders today

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

Bit of a meltdown so far. Another shot gone at 2. Two bunkers and 30 feet for par.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

A good round from here on out to get a high finish and keep the momentum going (and maintain the top 50 place). Let’s keep the faith.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

So disappointing after Lowry earlier, thought we might see a bit of Seamus tonite but imagine brodcasters will ignore him now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭WillyWonka

Let's keep the faith. A win not on the cards but let's hope for a good finisher and an appearance at The Masters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

A win isn't out of the equation yet, he's only one behind Rahm and Cantlay and you can be sure they think they can win, so why not Seamus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,499 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

It is if you don’t take advantage of the par 5s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Yeah, was writing that thinking he'd roll in that 10 footer on 5 for birdie

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

And a watery grave on 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,499 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Jaysus it’s like a carbon copy of Lowry this morning. Did not see this coming.

Very disappointing, hope he can somehow recover for a top 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Unlucky with that bogey putt, easier to watch the NFL now I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

Who put the hex on the lads for today?

I got up this morning looking forward to watching Lowry having a go at a win. By the 7th hole he was out of contention.

Didn't think it would be Deja Vu this evening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,825 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Damage limitation now, hopefully a few birdies coming in and a decent cheque.

In fairness it's the first time he's played poorly in a while. No shame in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Brutal isn't it, at the very least we thought we'd get some excitement from watching them challenge.

Sunday as always is the day to bring your game and if you don't.....

Jaysus Power has a bad dose of the lowry's

    Free Palestine 🇵🇸

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,421 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

He birdied 7 at least. but he looks skittled on 8 after another ropey drive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,302 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

Disappointing, but still doing well to be there, small margins, i think we all built up for a big day, first thing this morning Lowry and later power, they are still doing fantastic overall, relatively to yesterday bad but we move on.

    Good lad Seamus, keep grinding!!

Comeback is on now, hopefully a decent finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Nearly pitched in for eagle on 11, nice recovery from a horror start

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

If he can pull this back into a top 10 finish, it will be a great comeback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 865 ✭✭✭Icemancometh

4 under his last 6 holes. Such a pity about the start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

Absolutely. There’s $207k for 10th place and I assume decent OWGR points so anything Top 10 would help keep his Top 50 status.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,302 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

4 birdies since being 5 over, great character to turn it around.

Just bogeyed 15, but still playing pretty good. be interesting to see how he gets on, on the 16th. Pick up a birdie in the last 3 holes and he'll finish top15 so not too bad considering the start

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

Play it safe down the last. He doesn't need to burn any more Fedex or ranking points trying to be a hero.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭joebloggs32

    T14 finish.

Pity about the nightmare start but he showed great character to steady the ship.

Looks like he moves up two places on the fed ex table. Probably makes a slight move up the world rankings too along with another good pay day of over $100k.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Very disappointing day for Seamus but these things happen. He would have hat to shoot 65 to tie Swafford and to shoot that score on that course, everything would have had to drop. He played excellent golf yet again for probably 67 or 68 of 72 holes so nothing wrong with his four days work at all. A two week break is probably just what he needs after that, I think he’s coming back to Waterford for a few days so plenty of time to rest up and get back it in two weeks time.

A positive move in the fedex standings as mentioned above and more OWGR points which is what’s most important. Also mentioned above is the small matter of the probably $130k cheque he picks up this evening. Still a great few weeks and everything is going in the right direction. Maintaining the level of golf he’s produced over the last few months is probably a huge ask but I do still think there’s more in the tank and another win is on the horizon. 12 top 25s in his last 18 starts I think is the stat now. An incredible run of golf by any man’s standards.

While the start was not what he wanted, the character he showed in knuckling down and grinding out a score shows a level of doggedness that will surely stand to him the next time things get rocky.
