I see the price hikes didn't keep the investors happy. Netflix stock prices down by 20% since they publicly announced they missed their subscriber target in the last quarter. Apparently its dragging other streamers prices down too.

Ozark: Season 4, Part 1 (2022)– This crime drama, directed and produced by Jason Bateman, revolves around financial planner Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) and their family’s sudden relocation from the suburbs of Chicago to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks. Rather than the familiar skyscrapers and trading floors, Netflix’s drama explores capitalism, family dynamics, and survival, through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans. Season 4 is its final chapter and promises to be as dark as ever, with another mess for the Byrdes to try and clear up.

Munich: The Edge of War (2021) – Personal and national loyalties collide in the shadow of WWII in this gripping, timely political thriller based on Robert Harris’ novel.

Amandla (2022) – Years after surviving a childhood tragedy, two brothers fall on opposing sides of the law as a gang-linked crime tests their loyalty to one another.

My Father's Violin (2022) 1hr 52m [12] (Turkish) Through their shared grief and connection to music, an orphaned girl bonds with her emotionally aloof, successful violinist uncle.

Summer Heat (2022) Season 1(Brazilian Portuguese) - A group of young adults working at a paradisiac resort live an unforgettable summer as they discover love, true friendships and devastating secrets.

Donkeyhead (2022) - A failed writer unravels after her father's health takes a turn for the worse and her three siblings show up to handle the situation.

Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021) - In 1976, Aileen Wuornos marries a yacht club president and causes mayhem in Florida high society. Loosely based on the serial killer's life.

Definition Please (2021) - A former spelling bee champ struggles to live up to her potential as an adult. When her estranged brother comes home, long-simmering truths boil over.

Top Secret UFO Projects: Declassified (2021) Season 1 - Though claims of extraterrestrial encounters have long been dismissed, many believe the existence of UFOs is not just likely, but a certainty..

Lots of stuff comes up on search that is unavailable. Not sure if they are there for other regions or whether the Database they use just contains most movies made.

The search list is just list of terms you can search - it’s no guarantee of the movie being there. If you search it - as you can see - and it isn’t there they show you the matches they have. That makes sense, they want you to have a show to watch.

Just ignore the list of titles and look at the pictures of the movies available beside it instead

I’ve never watched any of the Korean movies/series and I do love to watch Scandi/European and South American series. Are they worth a watch, can anyone recommend a good one to start with?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,929 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Depends on what you're into. They all get thrown into the same category but for me the "K Dramas" are more soapy kind of things. Maybe like the South American tela novella kind of things. Crash Landing on You is good if you like a bit of romance with overblown drama.

Outside of that genre, Kingdom is a like a historical drama but with zombies, I think. The Uncanny Counter is like a supernatural demon hunter thing. Sweet Home is about a group of neighbours in an apartment building trying to survive inside during some kind of apocalypse thing.

Not sure if there's any along the lines of the Scandi shows. Someone else might know better.

Rotating between new series of Ozark and Archive 81 currently. Two very different watches but both enjoyable!

Related in the sphere of Netflix and the pox of late capitalism demanding "growth" over consolidation or stability: Netflix lost $50 billion of worth; only because it narrowly missed its own target of 222 million subs by e.o. 2021.

Interestingly, in regards the material we're talking about, they also admit growth has plateaued in North America, with the only real growth occuring in international markets ... which would explain its latter-day pivot towards non-English speaking output

I think The House is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

Sweet Tooth : A boy who is half human and half deer survives in a post-apocalyptic world with other hybrids.

This show's release in 2021 had terrible timing, given its premise concerns a pandemic that sweeps the earth, killing millions. However, if you can ignore that, this is one of the few post-apocalyptic shows that has a genuine humane and empathic emotional core. Speaking as someone who kinda hates the genre now; there was still plenty of "humanity are the real monsters", but the central character from which the title comes is of such pure spirit, he finds and encourages the good in others. I was delighted to hear it was getting a second season.

Think they list shows where the rights will be expiring and getting renewed. So like it would be leaving on that day but they extended it. Have seen it a few times now.

Since the Wu Assassins film was announced, I started the series last night. Halfway through and liking it so far. Though hearing the 5 elements just reminded me of Warriors of Virtue

I started watching Space Force on a bit of a whim. Only 2 eps in and I'm not sure what to make of it, but it's wild how dated all the political stuff feels already. Its also not that funny, but I think that's a wider issue with the whole Trump era, it's just so dumb you can't make it funny. Outside of that it seems okay so far, an easy enough watch.
