Another notable development is that all countries will again be required to create a 'live on tape' backup performance in case they can't participate, or the worst happens and the contest can't go ahead as planned.

Estonia were the first to get NF season started on November 20th with the first of four quarter finals. One notable participant is 2018 finalist Elina Nechayeva returning with 'Remedy'. No idea how this stacks up against anything else at Eesti Laul but I think she'd be an interesting choice again for Estonia.

The seven Czech contenders have also been revealed with their NF to take place on December 16th.

Albania as usual will choose their entry after Christmas on December 29th. Odds on it being a wailing woman again? 😛

The juries would downvote that to f*ck, think it'd struggle to make the top ten.

Nothing against rock entries at all, I meant they should've steered clear of trying to emulate last year's winner!

Ok, have finally listened to all our contenders now. My thoughts are as follows:

Brendan Murray - Real Love

I mean, it's better than the last time, although that wouldn't be hard. Maybe with a strong vocal and nice, intimate staging he could sneak into the final and avoid last place, particularly with some jury support? Otherwise hard to muster much enthusiasm for it.

Rachel Goode - I'm Loving Me

It's alright, if a bit too old-fashioned. Made me think of Kati Wolf of Hungary 2011. A probable NQ if picked.

Brooke Scullion - That's Rich

Again it's ok. It has good production but as I mentioned earlier the chorus isn't up to much. Think I'd put it in the same category as Albina's 'Tick Tock', one that would be popular with the fandom but would be a borderline Q/NQ on the night.

Janet Grogan - Ashes of Yesterday

The Mamas lite. An almost certain NQ.

Patrick O'Sullivan - One Night, One Kiss, One Promise

As bland and generic as they come. You'd know Nicky Byrne had something to do with it. Certain NQ.

Miles Graham - Yeah We're Gonna Get Out Of It

I... actually think this is ok? It's quirky, a bit different, I'd almost say I like it. It is a bit preachy and he's already taken a bit of flak for containing some George Floyd (!) imagery in the video. But.. I think this could qualify? And maybe finish somewhere in the 17-22 range in the final? I think we should consider picking it.
