Hope to see Janet Grogan, Rachel Goode and Patrick O’Sullivan back with other entries.

Rachel should definitely go for what Australia did one year - mix classical / Modern music, you could even do an Irish haunting beginning like in Riverdance, or a modern Niamh Quinn The Voice.

Norway also did very well with a song mixing Norwegian / modern music recently:

Janet Grogan is another strong vocalist, she did the best job delivering her song to the public last night hands down. If she was given a stronger melody, it would definitely have a chance to get out of the Semi.

Patrick O’Sullivan - very good vocalist. Hated the song, poor melody, didn’t like the choreography either.

Overall a positive step forward - next year live from the Helix would make a big difference to the performers and give the songs a live performance to a big crowd.

Brooke’s song has catchy segments, her whole look, image is an absolute disaster & I don’t think anyone ‘got it’. Her Spotify clips have her looking like a Duo Lipa twin and then she comes out like an Oompa Loompa dressed in disgusting pyjamas on the Late Late Show - needs major work or it doesn’t have a chance of getting out of the semi.

Well that was a complete s* show . She really needs a style counsellor - shiny pj's, pigtails and cyndi lauper make-up? Song was poor and her vocals shaky at best....

If Brooke dresses the same on the Eurovision stage she'll win the Barbara Dex Award for worst dressed. When Marty interviewed her in the green room opening and I let out a loud "Oh nooo!". She reminded me of the pajama people I see in Dunnes sometimes, so the most culturally relevant song of the night. :P Brooke moves well and I like that thing she does with her hand during "Bye Bye Boy".

It won't win us Eurovision but the song is fun and catchy enough to get us to the final. Bonus that Brooke has a great personality that will make her a media darling in Turin.

I'm rarely impressed by RTE but they put on a good show last night!

I was very happy to see Rachel Goode do so well with the public vote. Fingers crossed she'll try again in the coming years. So confident on stage and oozes star potential. Best outfit of the night, too.

The song was just way too Swedish for me: I thought my stream switched to Melodifestivalen!! Even the face close up camera work and wind machine were straight out of Stockholm.

She needs to come back with something pop-y again but Irish made and makes better use of her lovely soprano voice.

I really like the gentleman in 2nd place: 77 years old! Won the best cover song last night ahead of Mahmood & Blanco.

Here's his San Remo entry “Apri tutte le porte”. Doesn't get more Italian than this *revs his Vespa*.

Are we excited for San Remo tonight?

Im cynical, Mahmood and Blanco are playing up the Bromance element to sell to us gays ! Albeit the song is mediocre but they can sing it well. There is a song in the Israeli selection called 'Im' by David Ben Cohen , could 'occupy' the charts (pun intentional). Spain have a really upped their game but catching up with Chanel.

The second place in Albania is fantastic, should won.

Should we ask for a seperate Eurovision forum?

It would require an absolute banger. Gravity was a great song and the mixture of classical vs EDM worked quite well. I would be more in favour of something new age along the lines of Harem by Sarah Brightman. Not with a break for classical but an oepratic voice over a floor filler of a melody.

Its nice to be able to nerd out with fellow Eurovision fans

Other stuff picked over the weekend. North Macedonia on Friday night before Brooke, followed by both Israel and Italy on Saturday night.

    North Macedonia

    Israel

    Italy

Haven't actually listened to them all yet, but all I can say for now is I don't think Italy will be defending their crown!

I'm sorry but that song will get nowhere the final, it's abysmal... even by our standards....

Semi-Final: Last place. mark my words.

Will Penneys be ready for the rush on shiny pj's ?

Brooke reminds me of the girls that would be around at underage discos when I was younger. Only thing missing a bottle of blue WKD

If we entered that song 10-15 years ago, it might have had a chance of making the final…

RTÉ are playing it safe once again by picking a song that’s like what everyone else was doing years ago……

I'll happily put a €20 wager in it.

€20 to a charity of your choice if the song comes last, and €20 to the RNLI if the song doesn't come last in the semi final?

If Ireland makes it to the Final I will donate €20 to the RNLI.

I'll do it if we finish above last place in the whole thing out of the 54 or whatever countries enter.

Enjoyed the LLS Eurosong, some observations:

So happy Brooke won, our best option - however staging, outfit, concept will need radical overhaul - ditch the jimmy-jams & glam it up with gold outfit, better dancers, maybe have a male dancer she plays around with on stage & a money/rich theme. With good staging it might get the closing slot in SF2 as the final lyrics 'Bye, Bye Fool' lend themselves to show closer.....

Delighted the Irish public said 'F**k Ballads' - in your face studio panel!!

Happy for Rachel to come second with public, it was never going to be a jury song & it stopped her finishing last. Hopefully she tries again in the future with something more in her lane - it was a shame she missed that note but it happens to the best of them. Looking at her youtube videos, she's a great singer.

Also happy for Miles Graham as I felt before the show everyone was very dismissive of him so delighted he finished second overall. I'm not sure the song/performance would have been right for ESC but he can hold his head up high.

Next year Eurosong needs to be moved out of LLS Studio & to somewhere like the Helix.

Eurosong should not be associated with TLLS.

For what ever reason sound for the The Helix on TV is dreadful LIVE. There are other venues.

Yeah agree that Eurosong should not be associated with LLS, I thought The Helix sounded fine on TV when used for The Voice of Ireland & Ireland's Got Talent live shows. Anywhere will be better than RTE studios.

Ireland's Got Talent was produced in Ardmore AFAIK. edit: Sorry that was The All Ireland Talent Show. Ireland's Got Talent didn't have many singers and I stand by that argument :) I didn't really watch ether.

The Voice of Ireland sound was good at the pre-recorded battle rounds but ended up sounding as bad as You're A Star come the live rounds. IMO.

That will go absolutely no where...it has happened before and songs were still allowed in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,247 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Yeah, if the song has half a chance of doing well, they might pull it up and cite a rule violation, otherwise they won't be bothered.. which it seems in this case, they won't be.

I'd love if we said to hell with trying to do europop every year, and simply sent something a bit more Irish, a singer songwriter, even singing in Irish!!!

To hell with winning, or even desperately trying to get out of a semi-final... just use those 3 minutes, in front of a lot of millions of people to promote Ireland in some way or other through song..

I'd much rather finish last in the semi-final with a song that was in some way Irish, than with a song that's just another attempt at europop selected by Linda Martin (not sure is Linda was on the LLS selection, but usually she is in some way involved).

A lot of early fan hype about this one from the Polish selection. We'll find out if they pick it Saturday week, February 19th.

No it was Paul Harrington this year, who was very Entertained for a change when watching TLLS 😁

Brooke's song is definitely the best of the bunch.

Rachel Goode's song was revving up to be a banger but the chorus just doesn't take off. I was expecting good, proper, POUNDING dance music (I'm talking off your face on molly at Tomorrowland) but it ends up like a mouse fart at mass.

Shame as it had plenty of potential.

ah, I like Paul, his & Charlies Eurovision winner 'Rock n Roll Kids' is by far my favourite Irish winner, followed by Eimear Quinn's 'The Voice'

1994 was almost 30 years ago!!! Fecking Hell!!!

i like our entry but it won't make the finals , we're entering the community games and other countries are at olympic level.

I wouldn't write it off making the final, it is in the weaker semi by looks of it and UK voting on our semi as well
