Mountbellew peaked in their county final win against Corofin. They were outplayed in the 1st half against Ballinamore and fell over the line 2nd half. Some breaks didn't go their way against Pearses but they were poor for large periods of that match.

I would have fancied Knockmore chances more if it was Mountbellew they played in the final

Hopefully Mullin does a U turn, a massive loss to the GAA not just Mayo if he were to go.

I saw an article on RTE website which listed all Irish ladies playing this season in Australia. Was very surprised of 14 listed 6 were from Mayo (Cora S, Sarah Rowe, 2 x Kellys, Aileen Gilroy, Rachel Kearns) next nearest Counties had only 2. Probably not great for Mayo ladies but great for individuals concerned.

MM fell into that age old GAA club trap of going absolutely buck ape crazy after winning their first county title for many years. You could nearly see the hangovers wearing off the in that first half versus Ballinamore. Knockmore wouldve had a similar problem last year but obviously there was no Connacht to be played. MM were crap versus Pearses and still would've won a tad comfortably if it wasn't for the ref, lets be honest. The last 20 mins were an absolute farce decisions wise. That doesn't excuse their terrible conduct when the game ended however

Not sure how you think Knockmore wouldve beaten them. Pearses were always in control versus Knockmore and the Mayo final this year was one of the worst in living memory. MM's win over Corofin was lightyears ahead of that standards wise, and that's not even taking into account that one club were playing the 3 in a row All Ireland champions and the other a small newcomer.

As it is Pearses have a great chance now to make an All Ireland final with Mannion out for Kilmacud. Winter football suits them very well, I'd worry about them in Croke Park however

More than just a hang over as plenty of new or long waiting county winners has gone on to show well in provincial championships. Also have to take into account that Corofin was dreadful in the Galway final, the Corofin side pre covid compared to now is chalk and cheese.

If they fell over the line for a second Connacht championship game in a row I don't believe Mountbellew Moylough would have suddenly clicked and brought the required improvement into the Connacht final to win. A type of opponent that would suit Knockmore better. Pearses 2nd half last Sunday scored 0-10 from ten shots on goal a remarkable stat and and as you say controlled the majority of that match, yet Knockmore was only a kick of a ball from winning themselves.

Which new or long awaited county champions are you referring to? We have had 1 'long awaited' county champion reach an All Ireland semi final in 18 years, them being the minnows Ballymun Kickhams in 2012-13 with a near professional setup and thousands of members. Before that it was Caltra in 2004. The cursed year 1 hangover is invariably a huge factor. Andy Moran made good points about it when making his Connacht predictions on that excellent podcast OTB produce

Bernard Dunne was in The Dome for the Mayo v Galway match according to the Mayo News?

That's two, another few off the top of my head.

Gaoth Dobhair, won first Donegal title for over a decade and went on to win Ulster in 2018

Slaughtneil first Derry title for a decade in 2014, won Ulster and went on to reach the AI final

Austin Stacks, first Kerry title for 20 years in 2014 and won Munster

Castlebar in 2013, first Mayo for 20 years and went on to win the Connacht title and reach the AI final

He was planned to be on the interview panel for the new Galway Hurling manager but pulled out when Davy Fitz was in the running as they're good friends. Maybe he is helping out on the football side of things now?

I see the 42 are now saying that he he couldn’t travel last week due to Covid - would seem at odds with what James Horan said. Time will tell as always. Would be some boost if he stayed.

Talk that Portwest are doing their best to keep him here

Hopefully Oisin is staying put so much doubt the last few months especially his interview during the all star awards, if true that he trained with mayo yesterday then he must be staying despite that 42 article surely geelong wouldn't risk him/injury training with mayo

Great news that he's staying. Fair play to him, always thought he was the type of lad who loved playing with his club and county above anything else.

Sure why would he leave, they got nothing like the sea stack and Croagh Patrick in Australia. And Australia probably would have deported him anyway for not getting his hair cut.

Huge boost for Mayo Mullin staying. Thoughts on this line up from an outside perspective when all are fit and available?

    1. Rob Hennelly
    2. Brendan Harrison
    3. Padraig O’Hora
    4. Lee Keegan
    5. Paddy Durcan
    6. Stephen Coen
    7. Eoghan McLaughlin
    8. Oisin Mullin
    9. Mattie Ruane
    10. Fionn McDonagh
    11. Tommy Conroy
    12. Diarmuid O’Connor
    13. Aiden Orme
    14. Cillian O’Connor
    15. Ryan O’Donoghue

    That's a good team.

People mightnt be too happy keeping Leeroy in the corner back position.Hes one of the greatest wing backs of all time but is just a decent corner back,it's not his favoured position according to himself. We might need him there to plug a gap though and we still have a very good half back line. For whatever reason Horan doesn't seem to rate Eoin O Donoghue,I'd love to see him get more game time.

Fionn has been dogged with injuries since his breakthrough year in 2019,I hope he can get back to the level his was at.Tommy plays in the ff line all day for me and once we have cillian back we'll have some ff line again with Ryan o Donoghue arguably the most in form Mayo player at the moment.

Kevin mac has to start,he's our best half forward for over a decade.

Jason Doherty is back to full fitness now aswell which is great news because our half forward line was our weakest line all last year.

It remains to be seen where Enda Hession will play but he will be a part of big games whather starting or off the bench.

Aiden Orme needs some time in the league and hopefully will take his chance.

There's also another Aidan looking to get on....

We have a serious squad and got a great boost with Oisin staying, not just the fact that's he's staying but that he obviously believes this team are going to do something.

Great to have a bit of optimism back!

Ruan gone for the 1st two games of the league after his sending off in the Ireland.

They some how didn't appeal it.

Wonder what grounds they would have had for appealing it, if any?.
