I just got 2.3 loaded / installed yesterday. I’ve heard (so could be wrong on this) that eir is the mobile company used. I live in a desolate place for eir…

so it might be coming your way soon enough. I’ve a first edition, so they may be doing these now or it’s pure randomness

    EVNotify also works on iOS.

Its on the left side of the glovebox, behind a panel that pulls out from the top. I found details on this site: https://vwts.ru/forum/topic/248724/

    id.3_fuse_layout.jpg

Fuse 19 is the 5th fuse slot down in the second full row from left - The 3rd 5amp fuse in mine (labelled below). The red wires and fuse holders are for my dashcam.

Interesting, My alarm has gone off a few times for no apparent reason. The spot I put my key is within 4 metres of the car. Also the lights come on sometimes if I walk around the front of my house with the key in my pocket!

Question: does the fact that the ID.3 reverses simply by reversing the rotation of the motor mean that one could accelerate in reverse at the same speeds as one can going forward?😬

    Asking for James Bond.

Alarms have known to go off on windy days. With sir being blown through the vents

I do not own a iD3 but common sense tells me they have it limited for safety reasons.

It hasn't happened since keeping the key well away from the car, the fast flashing red light on the key fob stops flashing fast.

Who knows, might be keeping the car active enough to eventually flatten the 12v battery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,576 ✭✭✭eagerv

That was certainly a thought often brought up in the early days, but many people even without the fast flashing red light (Those with basic models) still seemed to have 12V problems. Haven't heard lately of any 12V problems, perhaps was fixed with the earlier updates.

I think it's pure random but after emailing vw they said that I'm not on the list for 2.3 until February, which will probably be the last day of Feb lol.

Could have been fixed with some update or through some other hardware change.

That’s so odd! Especially when you said it popped up that day on the screen

hafta say we are delighted with ours. Yes the range has dropped in cold weather but the preheating and heated seats and steering wheel and matrix headlights are all just awesome. I love this car.

Yeah great car love it, happy with the range, delighted to have the extra range of the 77 Kwh.

Yes it was strange whatever popped up on the screen that morning I'll never know now. Would be nice if the car could just search for available updates and download them, this push system is utter nonsense.

    Lads, 2 questions.

Any news on one pedal driving SW update? Is it even planned? Deal breaker for a new ID3 for me.

Any news on timing of the ID3 45kWh launch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,326 ✭✭✭✭KCross

Have you driven an ID.3? You don’t need 1-pedal driving.

1-pedal is a bit outdated now to be honest. Dynamic regen is way better in terms of usability and efficiency.

haven’t heard of the 45kWh version yet. With chip shortages etc I guess they want to sell higher margin versions first. The website still says…

”You can choose from 58 kWh or 77 kWh. A smaller battery size will be made available at a later date.”

Just tried starting a charge on an ESB charger using the We Charge App and it worked first time.

I know we worked it out before and the top tier plan at €17.99 a month to get 30c at Ionity worked out cheaper after you took more than 45kw or something like that per month.

If the app is reliable then you could split the monthly plan between two people, one use the app and one the card.

Boy, was I glad to get away from the one pedal driving in the i3 or what! it was one of the most irritating things about the i3, having the option for one pedal driving in the id.3 is really great, I use B for town and D on the open road and I love it.

So, you don't need a software update for one pedal driving, it's there already if you want it by selecting B and D when you don't want it, on the open road for example. One pedal driving means that your foot is constantly on the throttle adjusting speed which can be tiring but not with D mode, you press the throttle when you need power and release when you don't and as KCross said, it's the most efficient way to drive because when you coast, you're using energy already used but you need to judge the road right because if you slow down too much you need to use more power to get going again, regen is fine for when you must brake but you never get back what you take out and regen is not 100% efficient.

I leave in "D" the whole time, love the smart regen (Or whatever it's called), it makes town and city driving so effortless. Almost like having adaptive cruise on, but without the abrupt power changes. Very relaxing the way the car slows up smoothly when the traffic ahead slows up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,326 ✭✭✭✭KCross

    Me too. D mode only.

The car generally makes the right decisions around slowing up using dynamic regen. With 1-pedal you’d be constantly feathering the throttle to achieve the exact same thing so that’s something that VW actually got right in terms of software.

Yep, D all the way, smooth, most efficient way to drive. I only used D in the egolf too unless I wanted to play with the ‘gear stick’. That was fun.

I use B in traffic and on bendy country roads but after reading the last few posts I’ll give D a go.

B in Sport Mode on bendy roads for me. D in Comfort for everything else.

I love one pedal driving in the i3. And in Tesla.

To be honest one pedal is the standard in EVs. No excuse.

I don't give a damn about dynamic regen that's all buzzwords. I want to be able to drive without using 2 pedals, specifically the brake pedal. I said it once here too - 3 pedals is museum, 2 pedals is archaic, 1 pedal is 21st century.

B and D is 1st gen EV concept - Nissan Leaf!

As a minimum, regen strength should be configurable with several levels like the Koreans do, then the driver can use strong regen to achieve one pedal driving effectively. If you don't like you can use weak regen...

OK I will ask you like this - does the car come to a stop by regen itself and not by using the break pedal? If not it's not one pedal driving.

All reviews about regen in the ID3 mention it's weak. Hence I asked if VW did any update around this.

In fact, I think VW did the B/D and weak regen intentionally to cater for conservative drivers coming from ICEV to create more automatic-ICE experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,492 ✭✭✭McGiver

Don't care about efficiency but about driver experience. Don't want to use the brake pedal if not needed.

    Didn't drive it...

What does the dynamic regen do? Is it in all trims?

For me, this remains a deal breaker if I can't achieve effective one pedal driving (in whatever way).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,418 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

You can adjust the level of regen braking in the profile menu.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,492 ✭✭✭McGiver

Does it come to the stop on the highest?

    Does it creep? Auto hold?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,418 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Not sure, I don't use B mode much and when I do it's only on windy back roads.

Have you driven an ID3 or ID4? If not then there's no point making assumptions until you've at least tried it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭handpref

Initially I thought the regen in the ID3 was too weak, not Zoe weak but nothing compared to the i3.

However I’ve been in and out of id3’s subsequently and it’s a much easier drive, and the regen is perfect for me.

The constant feathering of the accelerator in the i3 is tiring, because you always have to watch that it doesn’t pass the 3rd bar on the regen scale or it brings on the brake lights.

I can’t stand it when people keep braking for no reason and it’s easy to spot rookie i3 and tesla drivers with the light show coming from the back as they floor it and then come straight off to full regen-

1 pedal driving should definitely not be forced, I would hate to go back to one pedal driving like in the BMW i3, I want to drive they way I want not the way some company techs think I should.

Having different strengths is good so too is the option to turn it on or off and if having D or B achieves that then that's fine by me.

I saw around 80 Kw max regen, then again I haven't paid a lot of attention to it, it's strong enough, when you lift off in B you don't get max regen only when you press the brake pedal, when you press the brake it's plenty strong, you can see the green regen bar max out when pressing the brake.

The regen in the id.3 is way stronger than in the i3 which was only around 30-35 Kw in the id.3 I saw a max of 80 Kw but haven't really looked much in the app to see if it was higher.

I agree, the constant feathering of the throttle in the i3 was annoying which is why I am delighted with the ability to turn it completely off in the id3 and have regen only when pressing the brake.
