if you take Usyks body of work at HW and accept that Joshua was a very bad version of himself, i dont think he has shown near enough to suggest that he could beat fury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭squinn2912

But equally you could take Fury’s body of work at HW and accept that Wilder was never much good in the first place. From the first punch was thrown in the third fight it was obvious he had no belief in himself. Now he did keep plugging away and went out on his shield bigtime but he;s a very limited boxer. Take him out of it anyhow as something of an unknown quantity and Fury has beaten precious little save ending the run of a very tired champion. Joshua probably isn’t as bad as that and Fury probably isn’t as good as that. I’m a Fury supporter no hiding that but I’d still shout as I see.

Interesting if it happens, Hrgovic is highly rated but he has not fought many killers to say the least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭squinn2912

I think it’s a great fight. Wed know how legitimate Hrgovic is. He’s 29 with 14 fights mostly against turkeys so now is the time to kick on. There was a fair bit of talk that Ortiz would fight him but Parker is a better fight. I think Ortiz will get KO’d next decent opponent.

Ortiz and Frank Sanchez should get it on to see who’s number 1 Cuban

Ortiz looked poor against martin I think he is done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭squinn2912

That’s a good shout it would be a great undercard fight.

Yea I think he’s well done. If Charles Martin is a test then he’s finished.

Really? Odd. So maybe they didn’t fancy Hrgovic? I don’t think hewould be a headliner fight

Strangely Usyk may have a better chance against the last version of Fury ,

But there is massive talk that last time out Fury had a horrific training camp & in no way way planned to come in so heavy & what he called unprepared , Fury in the 2nd Wilder fight was strong & still had good movement/ defence, I reckon that Fury ko's Usyk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,496 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Hmm.....I don't think any version of Fury can KO Usyk. I reckon it's a points fight. Usyk has a decent chin, and is also very fit and conditioned.

Fury was in very poor shape for Wilder 3, he only trained for 4 weeks, if you look at footage of their second fight and third fight Fury is in way better condition in fight 2.

I think one of the reasons that the third fight was so good was because the best version of Wilder fought a terrible version of Fury, if Fury came in 100% he would have mullered Wilder in 6 or 7 rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,950 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

I have to agree, he was no where near his best shape physically but knew he could out fight Wilder ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,523 ✭✭✭badabing106

Presuming fury stays with the same trainers , then You might be proven wrong here. I don't think Tyson will be going for nothing but a ko victory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,832 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

disagree, i think Fury can knock any heavy weight out, and at his size he should.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,950 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

AJ stung him with a few single shots, i think Fury can KO him,

Lets be fair Fury, AJ, Wilder can KO any of todays heavy weights, including each other

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,496 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Of course Fury could KO Usyk. It’s HW boxing after all. I just think it is more likely he does not, for reasons I gave.

I worded my initial post incorrectly. It was too matter of fact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Usyk would be very hard to hit but I think it looked more that way because Joshua never really went after him. Fury would and I think he’d find him. If Usyk were to pull that one off then what a fighter he is.

Uysk fight with Joshua was a dead draw until The last two rounds. Fury has nothing to fear from Uysk, Fury has boxing ability and is not afraid to fight. How can usyk win?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Hi Howard… It most certainly was not a dead draw. Going into the last two rounds Joshua probably needed a KD at least to rob a draw. Usyk won well and he fairly shut the door early in the 11th. By the end of that fight in my own opinion the 117 card was the most accurate and Usyk won by a distance with the KO sitting there. Fury has struggled in the past against shorter men and Usyk will have him on speed. If he can take the roughhouse tactics which is a big if then he will be very live in the fight. He will be faster and have better footwork. Fury could well go off the rails at any time or have a poor camp or maybe the enormous weight gain and loss will catch up with him and gas tank could be an issue. There are lots of potential avenues to success for Usyk. I make Fury the favourite but it’s not an easy night for me.

    I think it's rather quite simple;

I am not a big fan Usyk in the historical sense. I don't rate him really highly here.

But in today's era, the simple thing is that the man can look after himself, can adapt, can box and fight.

Barring a KO, he will be a match for anyone. He has fundamentals, ring IQ, great stamina, great movement, great volume, and utter belief.

Fury has size and weight and height and reach advantages. These traits are very important here, but I think Usyk can offset them to a large degree with his own skills mentioned above.

If Fury was a banger, then Usyk's task would be far more difficult....he is not a banger. Usyk should be able to take, avoid/ride Fury's shots to see him go the distance at least

Not sure who will start favorite, but no surprise if dead even, or Usyk a favorite. His showing against AJ this year should tell us a lot more

Bellew, Chisora & AJ all landed a good deal on Usyk & Fury is levels above those 3,

Usyk out jabbed them all no surprise that will be harder v Fury

He landed more power Shots than AJ but the same amount as Bellew & less the Chisora

Personally i think Usyk was struggling at moments against Dell boy & AJ , I think Fury put him in those moments more often & capitalises on those moments ,

Only chance give Usyk is to catch Fury with something short on the inside in the early rounds but if Fury gets into a rhythm & takes a few decent shots so he is alive to them i think he mows Usyk over in the second half of the fight and stops him ,

I just think Fury on form is to clever not to get outboxed but also gritty enough to make it rough & hard at the same time,

I think as bad as AJ was he had moments where if he just had the nuts or gas tank to step into the fire & stya there a little longer he'd have really hurt Usyk ,

That’s bang on for me. Fury looked to have power against a very static and therefore hittable Wilder. Did he trouble Wallin once? Wlad? He’s a big, strong HW and of course he can KO any man but he’s not a banger. My thinking was that of the top 3 Joshua was the most difficult opponent for Usyk - but only if he went for him and he didn’t, he negated all of his own attributes and fought Usyk’s fight only one winner there. It would be no surprise to me to see him win the rematch, write off a guy like that at your peril.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,950 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Fury isn't going to stop you with one shot but he will stop you with an accumulation , Fury hits harder than people give him credit,

You mention Wlad , he absolute shat the bed & didn't let his hands go because he realised Fury could & would get to him ,

Fury said himself for 10 years everyone went out to KO Wlad with one big shot & lost, so Fury would be an idiot to do the same,

Wallin fight is hard to judge Fury got that really bad cut in the 3rd & didn't want to get involved & possibly stopped,

Its hard to judge Fury because tits only been Wilder of high standard since his move to the Kronk style,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,496 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Fury, at 270 lbs obviously can punch a bit, we get this.

But he's not a typical banger

And, Usyk is a clever and resourceful and tough man, with a good chin, solid cardio, and decent defense when needed...

This leads me to believe that Fury probably doesn't get the job done with one shot, and nor with accumulation....

Usyk has the traits needed here to not get stopped, more than Fury has the traits to stop him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,950 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Time shall tell but my money is on a Fury stoppage around 9 to 11

I can't get the fact that Dell boy hit Usyk so often out of my head

Fury WILL get to him & he will make him pay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,959 ✭✭✭Morrison J

If you picked Joshua to beat Usyk based on the Chisora-Usyk fight then surely you pick Fury to beat Usyk without much hesitation. Fury can actually employ some of those Chisora tactics unlike Joshua.

Fury got the versatility that Joshua massively lacks to go in as favourite v Usyk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,950 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Chisora & AJ where both missing what the other one has to go beat Usyk ,

AJ didn't have the heart & durability to put himself in position's to land often enough ,

Chisora lacked power & technical details to make his high pressure work ,

Fury in my eyes has everything to get the job done ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,496 ✭✭✭✭walshb

No, styles make fights....Chisora fights nothing like AJ, AJ fights nothing like Fury, Fury fights nothing like Chisora and so on.....

Each fight can be assessed based off the two men fighting, and yes, previous fights can be considered, but they don't always follow a pattern.....

Del Boy's rugged an rough style bothered Usyk. Del Boy would not bother AJ or Fury.....Based of styles and strengths and weaknesses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,832 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

by that logic Furys roughhousing would really bother Usyk.

It's really not that simple though as Fury is versatile and doesn't have one style like Chisora/Joshua.

Joshua won't in a million years be able to recreate how Chisora fought Usyk. Fury can and will also do a far better job of it. If Fury was willing to take shots off Wilder in order to back him up I'm pretty sure he'll be willing to take shots off Usyk. You can't train that sort of mentality into Joshua (nor does he have the skillset to pull it off anyway).

Thus it makes zero sense to me if those on here that picked Joshua to knock Usyk out on the night of the Chisora-Usyk fight aren't picking Fury to beat Usyk.
