Interesting to look at the total rainfall amounts for the full calendar year of 2021 across different parts of Ireland, here are a selection from across different parts of the country starting with the driest location. Dublin the driest location in the country again (seems to be every year), Newport in Mayo appears to be the wettest location in the country. Again huge contrast between east and west in terms of annual rainfall but nothing unusual there. I am surprised that Malin Head is much drier than several other locations across the country.

Oak Park 784mm

Gurteen 793mm

Dunsany 815mm

Mullingar 980mm

Shannon 930mm

Then to the West which is always much wetter:

Mace Head 1,045mm

Malin Head 1049mm (I would have thought it would be much wetter)

Sherkin 1,065mm

Athenry 1,124mm

Cork Airport 1,244mm

Belmullet 1,262mm

Valentia 1,548mm

Newport 1,725mm!!! (mind you an improvement on 2.051mm last year)

Autumn 2021 warmest on record for Ireland

Several temperature records were broken in 2021, in particular station records during the summer heatwaves. Perhaps more notably though is the continuing pattern of milder temperatures, with Ireland seeing provisionally both its warmest September and warmest Autumn on record. The average temperature in September was 15.28°C which is 2.3°C above average, the average temperature in Autumn was 12.02°C, 1.8°C above average. As the year comes to an end, it is clear we are also on track for another warm year with temperatures around 0.9°C above average. This will make 2021 the 11th consecutive year with temperatures above Ireland’s average.

18Z GFS quite snowy and an upgrade for my location. Snow falling on and off from Monday evening to Friday, briefly turning milder (6c) for a part of Thursday ,then snow again Thursday evening.Easily the snowiest run of this "winter" and not far away in FI. Could be snow on the ground uninterrupted for a few days if that happens but it'll probably be completely different for the next run in 1hr ha.

With +120 charts showing a 1040 Azores high and a 955 Iceland low then there’s nothing to get excited about.

It was inevitable I suppose after the Atlantic being so dead during the autumn.

Weather Advisory for Ireland

A mix of rain, sleet and snow will clear south over the country this evening and early tonight (Monday night) with a cold airmass following from the north.

Ice is expected to form in some areas which may lead to treacherous travelling conditions overnight and into Tuesday morning.

Guessing we'll see reports tonight from low levels in southern counties of snowfall particularly Carlow, Laois, Waterford, Wicklow and inland Wexford around midnight or just after from a weak enough frontal zone moving down over the country from the north.

Won't be much but may leave a dusting.

A bit of sleet and snow further north particularly the midlands earlier in the evening/night too temporarily and any heavier bursts seeing snow to low levels.

It's something to watch at least.

Some sleet falling in parts of the northwest already. There was around a 4C to 5C drop in temperature in the space of a hour also.

Heavy wet snow been falling for the last half hour preceded by sleet and hail. It didn't feel cold enough for this. Not settling yet as ground is saturated.

The sleet and snow should become more prominent in that band this evening to lower levels as it moves south. Not expecting anything significant but hopefully we get some reports of flakes at lower elevations.

Looks like much of any settling snow at lower levels confined to southern counties later.

It's rough out here near Newport. Wind gust blew the shed door open, although it was only on 1 latch but never happened before. Roof blown off the chicken house, but I imagine that was weakened from previous storms.

The rain is consistent, no let up at all. Lovely day for a movie by the stove.

Big temperature drop here in Meath, was 8C an hour ago, currently 3C and cold drizzle. Mostly very light rain. If there was proper precipitation there would be sleet in it. The band of precipitation seems to be breaking up as it heads south-eastwards.
