    Fairly heavy now, sticking.

Last winter the first decent fall of snow on the hills of Kilkenny was New Years Eve.

    Miserable sleet outside.

A very dissapointing event here in Meath mainly due to the lack of precipitation, about 10 minutes of rain at the start, 2 hours of mostly dry drizzle and 4 minutes of wet snow and that was it.

Can’t get over how humid it is in Dublin North (for me anyway). Finding the weather the last few months mad - should it not be WAY colder?

Now Kermit, ya wouldn't catch snowflakes out in that weather. They'll read about it online, sure, and tell you all about it, but no, they don't do slumming.

Ps captured sounds a tad extreme.

Graupel falling in Galway now, just a brief shower but nice to see some frozen rain for a change. A weak effort mind.

Had about an hour's snow showers here in East Cavan last night.

    Dog where not impressed.

Overnight low of -0.4c (manual) and currently 3.8c (AWS). Mostly clear sky and prolonged sunshine over south Laois. A big change following the mild start to the year! Nearby hills look lovely with their winter white coat on.

The snow didn't melt too much on the hill tops in Kilkenny.

Seems snowing early in the night followed by the frost was enough to make it last, the saying is, when it sticks around, its waiting for more.

Light shower of sleet/icy rain here in West Clare. 5.2°c and dropping.

A beautiful winter day here in North County Dublin.

Cool , crisp weather + very pleasant once your in the lovely sunshine.

It will be a chilly one tonight with the lack of cloud cover + not a whiff of a breeze.

A couple of snow showers today. No accumulations low down. Maybe a dusting this evening if the showers keep up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,774 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

    Light snow shower here.

I don't think they got snow on the lower ground in Kilkenny last night or else it never stuck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,490 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Temp never recovered, 3.2°c now and dropping (at an increasing rate) gone flat calm out. Everywhere is soaked, gonna be an icy night if the temp drops as expected.

    West Clare.

Edit: wow it's 4:50pm and it's gone down to 2.2°c with ice forming on car roofs etc already. Shows how bad a winter it's been when I'm amazed by this.

a beautiful crisp day here in Meath. Thankfully the next few weeks look a bit drier than the daily deluges we had over Christmas week so the ground should become less saturated. No real signs of any proper winter weather with the odd day of cool zonality and maybe a chance of frost from some high pressure next week.

Ice warning issued here with this added to to it

Showers this evening and overnight will leave wet surfaces leading to icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements. In addition the showers will fall as snow on high ground with 1 to 3 cm settling above about 200 m.

Meanwhile, the Japanese know how to do snow, and do it well. I've been keeping an eye on the cold blast they've been having over the New Year, bringing plenty of sea-effect snow in from the Sea of Japan. Sukayu (890 m) in Aomori prefecture (northern end of Honshuu) is currently showing a depth of 319 cm and rising.

    image.png image.png

Even Aomori city itself (on the coast) is at 90 cm and rising.

After a high of 7.2C down to 0.7C now here near Tralee. Got down to 0.2C early morning, two icy cars to deice this morning one at home out by the coast and later in Tralee at work.

Lovely spells of sunshine and blue skies today.

    Fairly hard frost tonight.

-0.1°c here in West Clare, looks like light showers incoming. Will be interesting to see what if anything falls. Perhaps my valley is a tad colder than surrounding areas? Hard frost here already.

Anddddd I think it's lost all its power just as it hit the coast. Oh well.

Still had something left.....currently raining onto the ice, place will be treacherous.
