They're different than us so they must be stopped is pretty much human behaviour for as long as we've existed.

You could retool a few words in Savages from Pocahontas and you've the rallying song for Claire Byrne and her like.

    Chorus probably works as is

    They're savages! Savages!

    Barely even human

    Savages! Savages!

    Drive them from our shore

They're not like you and me

Which means they must be evil

We must sound the drums of war!

    They're savages! Savages!

    Barely even human

    Savages! Savages!

    Killers at the core

    They're different from us

Which means they can't be trusted

And as was easily predicted, the vintners and restaurants associations just basically come out looking for more money this morning. No actual fight in them at all. If I was a publican or restaurant owner I'd be seriously questioning the value of paying Union dues.....

There's caution...and then there's NPHET. Other countries are reintroducing some restrictions. Ireland seems to have to try to go one better. Every. Fúcking. Time.

Cabinet secretly briefed on massive job losses

Hope voters don’t forget this when listening to the nonsense that will be to come today…any business needing constant support are secretly thought of as ‘zombie businesses’ within government. NPHET & Government have single handedly destroyed many of their livelihoods and are not finished yet. Opposition would probably have them closed already.

Carlsberg have said they have the best beer in the world (probably).

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~C.S. Lewis

Tony hates the drink and thinks there's no choice made by people to drink so he'll make that choice for them.

"So I really do not believe that we can say that it is a personal choice for someone to drink to excess and to accept the consequences of their actions. We must protect our babies, our children and the men and women of this country from the external effects imposed on them by the alcohol consumption of others."

This all reminds me of the opening lyrics to Megadeth’s 1995 hit Symphony of Destruction

    ”you take a mortal man

    and put him in control

    watch him become a god

    watch peoples heads roll”

ahead of its time clearly haha

Yeah, so not a curfew then. This is going to be like a lockdown/not lockdown discussion, is it?

Your Right, Chief Buffoon, Adrian Cummins out at 7.15am, an absolute clown, Handout, after handout, couldn't give a toss about staff, wait till January, he'll be crying about PUP again. Step up to the plate was his favourite Cliché throughout this, the Irony is breath taking.

Most of their businesses will collapse when supports are pulled. Serves them right for not banding together and standing up to this earlier.

When the wider economy eventually collapses, external vulture funds will come in and acquire these properties on the cheap. I believe Ireland and other countries will actually default on rising debt in exchange for IMF acquisition of state assets. They've already sold off half the country, might as well give away the rest 😄

As for Claire Byrne; she's either lobotomized, or just a really, really good actor 😄

In that case, be cautious. Yourself. Think for yourself (and your vulnerable friends and family). Stop needing to be held by the hand.

Is there any reason to think the associations are not reflecting the views of their members, or the great bulk of them, on this? SME owners are the ultimate pragmatists; they have zero interest in being martyrs for any cause.

We'll do the same again that we did for the last 2 summers. We'll he hopelessly slow in lifting restrictions before eventually making a half hearted effort at it next autumn just in time for the Theta variation or something to pop up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,477 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

I know a few business owners affected by this and to be honest they are absolutely beaten down by what's going - there's no fight left in them. They aren't playing some sort of 4D chess game here - they are just exhausted from it all.

    It's 100% a curfew on social activity.

Just because the army isn't on the street ushering people home doesn't stop it being a curfew.

Could also the ones who voted to maintain the restrictions with the Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2021

“Follow the trend lines, not the headlines,”

We should be getting personal. Because these restrictions are personal. Always remember that the loudest pontificators and advocates for restrictions are the least likely affected by restrictions.

So yes - get personal because it is.

It’s all out of the covid playbook, next up we need to vaccinate the healthy children to keep the schools open.

You're going to get certain posters performing serious mental gymnastics to claim otherwise. It's like that fella who said earlier in the year social dancing wasn't banned because you could prance around your own living room.

Will the workers impacted by this be given any additional payments or compensation? Long term job insecurity has well-established negative effects on people's mental stability. I've been there. It casts a cloud over everything. I agree with introducing more restrictions, TBH, but I can completely understand why people are venting here. If there is compensation for the workers, then it's tolerable. If not, then how the fook can the gov jsutify giving money to pantos, drug-addled 'celebrity' musicians, and the like? Triage required on absurdities like these.

More positively, I learnt how to day drink when I was living in a timezone that meant Ireland games were shown at 10 in the morning. It was tough at first. But I got the hang of it the few times a year it was required. Definite novelty factor to it. TIPS: Drink lots of water, eat something in the afternoon, don't wander into daytime traffic and if spoken to by a Garda at any point during the day remember that you have rights and that the proper legal term to use is "affluence of incohol."

It will and a lot of them will be elderly lonely men who go for a few in the night to meet friends as their only social outlet.

They took their vaccine and boosters and from the few I know would rather risk getting Covid than sitting at home with no social outlet.

You forgot your signature haha to laugh at all the people who are devastated financially and emotionally right now.
