I'm currently with pure and looking to move to find best prices. Do they all switch without the need for an engineer's visit? Can't afford time off to wait for someone to unplug one modem and plug in another?

Hi , I need some help. Have siro with a few months after changing from eir fibre broadband. I was getting 50-60mb with eir. Since changing to siro with Vodafone speeds coming in at 250-400mbs. However noticed a lot of lag on the ps5 while playing online.

i read up a bit and changed to archer a7 router yesterday. Amazon echo are no longer working for Tapo smart plugs.

    any ideas?

also Lag seems better but still not as good as it was on eir. Does anyone have the settings I should have on the router to make sure I didn’t miss anything?

    thanks

Wireless connection the the ps5 ??

Have your tried a wired one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭hunggar

Too far from router but tried with power line plugs. This improved the Vodafone Gigabox. Archer router improved it again wirelessly but still not as good as when I had eir which was 5-8 times lower speeds. Tried power line with archer and speeds were shockingly slow.

Has it been announced anywhere where SIRO are expanding too?

Im currently in an estate that only has FTTC and due to distance, max speeds are 14Mb down ~2Mb up.

Would be great to hear they are rolling out in these types of areas, rather than doubling down in areas where there is already FTTH through OpenEir. Any word either if they are encroaching on NBI areas?

Siro has not said where the expansion will be but at a guess it will be towns/large villages not yet covered by them. I doubt Siro will go near NBI/ Eir rural FTTH areas as Siro have no interest in rural or semi rural areas.

As far as I understand Eir have committed to upgrade all FTTC premises to full FTTH with the IFN network, I've been connected to it already, was on similar speeds to yourself, cabinet approx 1.5km, smallish semi rural estate, approx 160 houses, estate has IFN and shortly NBI too

When did that happen? Do you know if you were originally in the IA for the NBI rollout?

Given how much money involved, I suspect they will also be going directly into the heart of Dublin City and the other cities not yet covered. Basically the heart of Eir and VM territory.

Though I do wonder if VM's recent announcement of going full fibre too and open their network to wholesale access, will change that decision. Might make sense for Siro and VM to make a deal/partnership.

Announced during summertime I believe, we where in intervention area, loads of NBI work had taken place, dont know when the OpenEir did their instal, but my understanding is you can order from either, NBI is still on pre-order due live December I believe.

Siro mentions upgrades to 2Gbps consumer connections via use of XGS-PON. Any search I do for this returns 10 Gbps symmetric.

So unless i'm misunderstanding, Siro will be bandwidth limiting consumers to 2Gbps and in the future up to 10G will be available.

Hi there I am wondering if anyone can help but is this the siro box or a eir fibre box on the pole outside my house

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭pg17

That is an eir pole with telephone connections - it is an eir fibre box. A SIRO box would be on an ESB Network pole.

Perfect thanks for that love to get siro however junction box is on the house next to me and sadly won’t let me run the wire from it

Out of curiosity, what's the difference (from your perspective) between an open eir or a SIRO connection?

I switched from PURE to Sky and it changed a day earlier than expected. But It kept working on the PURE fritzbox with no change in settings. So my Question is a) anyone know if PURE looks for their fritzbox back? I can't see anything in T&Cs about out of contract cancellations and b) is there any reason why i should use the sky hub instead?

I use my own deco wifi so the fritzbox is only routing.

Significant footpath openings in Maynooth for SIRO this week. Been on the "soon" list for maybe four years, delighted to see some movement. Pockets of the town have VDSL only, often due to too revoked wayleave on overheard Virgin plant

I'm with Vodafone for 2 years now since living in my area. they installed this siro box on the inside a year ago or so with that connector box it whatever that is on the outside, but now my internet is gone completely. a red light is flashing on that siro box.

contacted support, they said Monday theyll be sending someone to fix that... still waiting. until this is fixed i will have to go into the office for work, and that sucks. hope they'll come today.

by the way, what is another good fibre internet provider in the Midleton Area? if i switch, is it a matter of just replacing the modem/router? or will that siro boxneed to be replaced as well? I'm paying 55 per month right now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,221 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Only the router needs replacing, you do it yourself on the changeover date. 55 a month is a lot, you should be able to bargain VF down to 35-40 a month (500Mb) on another years contract. Look up bonkers etc for all the other offerings

I pay €35 a month for gigabit with VF, have had it at that price for over 2 years now.

An update: yesterday morning at around 9 or 10 TLI came on behalf of siro and fixed our broadband. good.

however, yesterday at around 10 in the evening, we were watching the late late toy show with the kids on the rte player, the stream suddenly stopped.

i run downstairs, and what do you know, the same error. red flashing LOS light on the siro box. it worked for like 12 hours until it failed again.

what the actual ****. I'm so pissed right now. i need to be online by Monday morning 8am. i can't believe this. calling their tech support i hear after 5 minutes that I'm calling outside their business hours.

How is Vodafone/SIRO with data cap? Is it still 1000gb?

What was the original fault? Was it a cable/fibre issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭murfilein

yeah, issue with the siro fibre box. they fixed it, it broke again like 12 hours later

SIRO-branded underground box lids in place in some estates in Maynooth now. Like an excited child over this, like when Virgin finally became available over a decade ago - mainly so I can tell Virgin to sod off.

Don't hold your breath it's taken years for it to go live here, my estate still isn't available I don't think it will be either.

If anyone wants to replace their Vodafone Gigabox router with Microtik device, there is a simple guide I just made:

Hey folks, has anyone tried to use eero pro’s over Siro using PPoE and VLAN tagging? Is it possible?
