Conor Sweeney says he favours the idea of a secondary football competition for counties in Division 3 and Division 4

Treacys invincible streak in the football ends at 69. One of the great teams of our decade only behind the likes of corofin and ballyragget in the hurling. You'll be back stronger next year 💪

Really enjoyed the senior County Final on TG4 today. Loughmore won three quarters, Sars the first. Once Loughmore pushed up after the first water break it was a different game.

Anyone playing Sars that leaves Sars with a free defender with either of the two Mahers likely to fill the roll are mad.

John Meagher looked great for Loughmore. Brian McGrath also had a great game.

Why was extra time not played? Loughmore have the football next week and then the replay the following week, tough ask for the lads but they look hell bent on doing the County double.

Their record of being continually there or there about in both codes is amazing. Maybe costs them at times, but a remarkable club. They always look such an honest team on the field.

Today is the 101st Anniversary of Bloody Sunday on Football Final Day.

Results of the Miller Shield (Senior Hurling Tipp trials) (Minus Loughmore & Sars players - not to mention a lot of under 21s involved in club games):

    North 5-26 South 0-24

    West 1-23 Mid 2-17

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

What a result for Loughmore. County Football champions. A truly great club.

Just fantastic, would be great to see them do the double next week.

Themselves and Slaughtneil really stand out as successful dual clubs - can't include Kilmacud as there is zero (well, very litle) crossover between the 2 codes

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

6 man of the match awards in a row for John McGrath I think - 3 in hurling and 3 in football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

    Absolutely unbelievable.!!!

Is it true that today was their 18th weekend in a row playing senior championship?

How many players play both codes?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,131 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

1 dual player ( Full back in the hurling) by all accounts, suppose there pick and membership is bigger than some counties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,099 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Think today was 16th week in a row, hurling replay will be 17 then Munster club football 18 week's in a row.

9 of of the 15 that started the hurling final started the football but that's after at least 2 being injured. Pretty much everyone who plays hurling also plays football unlike the likes of kilmacud and Naas etc.

    Brian Fox announces his retirement.

A great servant to the county down the years and a serious footballer.

Best of luck in retirement Brian

Great finish to the game. Sarsfields very lucky to get back into it when 4 down, keeper going short for some very strange reason, but a great win at the end, totally deserved win. John Meagher motm, great display.

    Double Champions !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,871 ✭✭✭✭klose

Loughmore are a credit to themselves, wonder how much of a dent will they land on both munster championships?

A huge ask, after all the games they've had, probably facing fresher opponents, I think Ballygunner had six weeks off before yesterday's game in Clare.

Credit to Loughmore, they never panicked, just chugged away. Their half back line was very strong. That Sars team looks like it's slipping over the hill a bit.

Hopefully Brian McGrath will get a go under the new management, has always looked a big game player.

Loughmore are some club and John McGrath the complete player.

    great footballer and hurler

    a joy to watch

Liam Sheedy to ... Monaghan??? Does he even know where that is? The mind boggles.

  • Registered Users Posts: 171 ✭✭FoFo1254122

Why is he not involved in underage structures in tipp ?

There is more going on with him then we realise. I reckon behind it all , money mad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,153 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Maybe he doesnt want to. Has been there done that in underage systems in tipp. What is the more going on you think is happening.. money mad? doubt it.

Is this Bonnar's links to Setanta going into fifth gear? Or a board thing?

New partnership between Tipperary GAA and Setanta College. Des Ryan, the former head of sports science and medicine at Arsenal, will now lead Tipperary's athletic and development structures.

It will create a pathway of progress for players from academy through to senior level at all grades. Ryan is now director of coaching and performance at Setanta College.

Dr Liam Hennessy, former Bayern Munich and IRFU head of fitness, will also be involved. Both have previously led youth development structures across rugby, soccer, and GAA, and will be overseeing a team of 12 experienced S&C coaches.

Well holy God! Fair to say it can't get any worse..

Really no need to be playing hurling down in Tralee 8 days into the new year.

Watched the game, the conditions were very poor alright, woeful wind in the game, bad wides from both teams, but particularly from Tipp.

There was a 10 minute delay towards the end as Willie Connors was stretchered off. Paddy Cadell and Darragh Carey both also went off injured. Not sure the exact injuries for any of them.

Said at the time, but that North/South/Mid/West competition was absolutely cringe and an archaic way of scouting players.

Should be scouting all club matches at Intermediate and Senior level. Granted, it might have been too late for Bonnar/his team to do this for this years ‘ championship

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

Congrats to Kerry. A historic win.

I see some people already have the knives out for trying players out and it couldn't get worse after one game.

Unreal. It could get a lot worse, in comps that actually mean something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,099 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

I'd have no problem with the divisional games, gives some younger lads exposure especially considering Sheedy didn't develop any of the youngsters in his 3 years, also we're looking towards a rebuilding phase.

Still think hurling in Tralee in January especially given the current circumstances of covid is a waste of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,839 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Completely agree on the hurling in Tralee being a big waste, so it’s not a ‘disaster’ in a sense and the match was probably an annoyance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 483 ✭✭Fred Astaire

It's something that will hang over Bonnar and will be a problem for him unless he has a good league campaign. He is not an appointment that inspired much hope in anybody and he really needs to get off the ground running.

Regardless of how many younger players were out there - it's not in any way acceptable for Tipperary to lose to Kerry. Theres a reason they never have. It could have been much worse too given the penalty miss.

Reported on Tipp GAA on Twitter that Willie Connors has suffered a double ankle fracture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

Moreover, Kerry also had a fair number of players missing due to Kilmoyley's Munster final, and it had been reported in the local press that various others had withdrawn from the panel due to disagreements with management.

On a different note, good win for the footballers.

    Revenge needed for Saturday 😁

Yourselves are playing ourselves ( Wexford) in a hurling challenge game next weekend, Tipperary venue apparently.

Think we should be happy with the Darragh Egan appointment? Heard all positive stuff so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,099 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Darragh won't lack for effort but it's a big step up for him, he's young and inexperienced at inter County level so hard to know how things will work out.

Thought myself that Davy over achieved with that group of players especially in 2019 when they were arguably the second best team in the country. I've a feeling Darragh won't see those same heights but I wish him all the best and hopefully it works out.

Semple Stadium is to become 'FBD Semple Stadium' 5 year deal to be announced next Tuesday and the New Tipperary GAA shirt sponsor and jersey will be revealed next week.

    According to Shane Brophy

Not a fan of the stadium rename but I suppose if they're getting a wad of cash which benefits the team then that's a good thing.
