You’re going to have to make that decision yourself. 😋

I bought a cheap stand mixer in lidl a while back and it does the job perfectly fwiw

Couldn't disagree more. Picked up the cheapest mixer I could find, a Russell Hobbs mixer, 2 years ago for about €100 from argos and it's made a lot of dough (an amount that I don't want to state publicly) without any issue.

I'm banned from using our mixer to make dough anymore. I've burnt so many of them. It could be quantities. I'm making enough dough for 8 pizzas at a time. 🙄

Looking at getting an Ooni - just waiting to see what Black Friday deals they might have. Think i will get a gas one. Just one question - I was looking at some recipes on their website and some have two different temperatures e.g. cook z at 350C temp/then heat up and remainder at 500C. how easy/difficult is it to regulate temperature. Do i need to get a thermometer? If so any recommendation - the Ooni one is €40 - is there a cheaper option?

That's hilarious. I make enough for 6 at a time, 60% hydration, at half power for about 8 minutes each time without hassle.

Like others here I've a cheap (59.99) stand mixer from Aldi I use for for pizza dough, the brand is Ambiano. Have been using it two years now without issue and they have a 3 year warranty. Im not much of a baker or dessert maker so I didnt see the point of spending 300 euro+ on a Kitchen Aid or Kenwood just to make a batch of 6 pizza dough balls once a month or so. And for the odd time I do want to whip cream or make a cake its handy to have it about. From that perspective I think a stand mixer is a better choice over a breadmaker as it is more versatile for making other stuff like cakes and desserts.

Tried the crema di zucca/pumpkin puree pizza recipe yesterday. Delicious! Pumpkin cream puree as base, topped half with mozzarella, ricotta and nduja and the others with mozzarella, red onion, sweetie drop peppers and gorgonzola. Really nice seasonal change from our usual tomato sauce

20% on Ooni website until end of next Monday if anyone is interested. Covers almost all products including ovens and accessories aside from the newest releases

Are any of the Ooni accessories worth getting at sale price? Going to pick up a Koda and have heard the Ooni accessories are expensive for what you get.

I took a quick look at Amazon for pizza peels, turning peel, IR thermometer etc - all looked available for around half of Ooni's sale price. Mine won't get much use until the spring and I'm tight on money so just ordered the oven and the cover which looks handy for keeping it in the shed.

I'd agree with the posters above.

I have a carry cover, a sizzler (or maybe it's a grizzler?) and one of their bamboo peels. I use the cover all the time, I've used the sizzler once and I have a €9.99 peel I got in Lidl that gets way more use and is way more useful than the ooni peel (although the ooni one looks a bit nicer on the table).

Is the Karu12 cover made to protect the oven through winter or is it really a bag for moving it around ?>

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,833 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

I was looking at it myself and wondering the same. Its hard to tell but in the photo the material just looks like it is what they make cheap rainjackets out of. Also it is advertised as a carry cover and not as protection for winter. It definitely isnt the thicker material on the cover I have for the Ooni 3 which was advertised as protection for winter.

If you search the thread there was posts about alternatives, I think someone got a backpack cover for less than a tenner and that fitted it fine

Definitely not made to protect through the winter. It'd manage a shower or two over the summer months I reckon but I wouldn't trust it to do much more than that.

I find it very handy for carrying it around - and if I can't be bothered putting it in the shed I'd be ok with the odd overnight.

I bought an oven yesterday - based on email received from Ooni I should have it within 2 weeks. Just re leaving out overnight / moving oven - how long does it take for it to cool down after cooking to allow you to move it back into shed or wherever it is been stored. Does the cover help move it earlier if it is still warm?

    Cools down in 30/40 mins.

I just take the chimney off and store it under a table but not ideal with a dodgy back!

I have a Karu 12 - I'd say 30 mins is plenty for it to cool down. In a pinch I might move it after 10 or 15 mins but I'd take the cover back off after moving it to let it cool down fully just in case.

Bit the bullet on a Koda 16. It was this or the Karu 16.

Decided to go with the Koda as I dont see myself using any other fuel options beside gas. I'm the same with BBQs and only use gas, plus the black Friday sale is offering E100 off. The Karu 16 is double the price, and just didn't seem worth it as its just essentially adding a door, and multi fuel options.

Anyhow, Looking forward to get cracking using a proper pizza oven.

It looks like my Black Friday Ooni bundle is out for delivery today!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,833 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Good stuff. Waiting on my upgrade to a Koda myself. Did you order early enough during the 5 day sale? Think I ordered on the 4th day but maybe it might arrive this week. I cant wait as I havent had a pizza in almost a month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 191 ✭✭skinnyfries

I ordered on the 22nd November, which I think was the first day. Unfortunately I won’t be able to enjoy it immediately, it’s a Christmas present to my OH!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,833 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

ah right thanks, I might be waiting till next week so. Was going to start a 3 day pizza dough tomorrow or Wednesday but I'll hold off till I get a delivery notification.

I got my oven a few days ago but no sign of the cover, anyone else have the same issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 191 ✭✭skinnyfries

My bundle was to arrive in 5 parcels, only 1 was delivered today. I phoned the courier company and they said I should have the rest in a week!

Spotted this in Aldi today. Not sure how long they've been stocking it but might come in handy. They also had their own brand pizza sauce for 1.29 which is probably just the West Cork stuff they stocked previously rebranded and reduced in price
