That would be some boost indeed.

I wish Universal bosses weren’t morons and let Marvel do Hulk solo movies.

Is Rufalo confirmed for She-Hulk ?

Drifting very far OT but it doesn't rather me that we haven't got a solo Hulk movie, I feel they're very limited in the story they can tell with that character.

    Ruffalo is confirmed for She-Hulk.

There have been a few rumours of a World War Hulk movie in the last week or two. I don't believe it for a second, but would love to see it happen.

Reading The Irish Times review almost felt like a cut and paste job of how many reviewers reacted to Batman vs Superman, including themselves.

It's not the first time that comparison has come up either. My curiosity to see it now has increased again given I liked many aspects of what Snyder was trying to do with those films.

I'm a big MCU fan but found this movie just ok,too much to go into right now but my first impressions are I didn't really like it unfortunately.Very different.

Nothing to tie in with The Eternals on Disney+ this time. Usually, since Wandavision, the series "Marvel Studios Legends" would give a 5 to 10 minute recap on any relevant character back story for the latest release. In Shang-Chi's case they even brought back a Marvel One Shot with Trevor. This weekend though, nothing.

    This too shall pass.

Wow Salma Hayek is 55 years old

    Still wouldn't say no

Thought the film was just okay. It didn't feel as long as it was, had some decent performances and scenes, and I thought the balancing of so many different characters who most never would have heard of before (myself included) was handled very well, both in terms of their personalities and powers.

It wasn't as overly comedic as most MCU films but I still would have preferred not to have Kingo's friend involved like he was, would have liked more humour between the Eternals instead. The Deviants never felt like too much of a threat, even when they were supposed to be. The overall story was fairly meh.

I enjoyed Thena, Gilgamesh and Phastos' characters the most. Druig was a good character but man that accent really stands out.

Overall it was just okay. Of the post-Infinity Saga MCU films, better than Black Widow, but not as good as Shang Chi.

    Also been confirmed (post credits)

The voice in the end credit scene with Black Knight was Blade.

Yeah found it alright too. I wonder if it would have worked better as a series on Disney+ instead of a movie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,683 ✭✭✭✭Penn

They seem to be using this to set up some big things in the MCU going forward, more than in some of the Disney+ TV shows. Those characters and stories already came from the movies and can easily segue back in. The Eternals probably has too many new things and implications for the MCU (and was probably designed to be more of a spectacle) that they went movie.

Went to see this earlier and it was just plain bad. The credits went on forever which makes me realise that a lot of people worked on this film so I don't like to stick the boot in but there's no two ways about it, this is awful. The problem is the story.....there is none and the dialogue is extremely ropey. The actors looked embarrassed to be spewing that nonsense. The only good thing to come out of this is that maybe a whole new generation will be introduced to Dark side of the Moon.

Saw it tonight and enjoyed it for what it's worth.. Something a bit different and a different direction.

My own gripes was that there probably wasn't enough action in favour of a story driven approach

To whoever mentioned their dislike for Kingu's valet... Shame on you he was hilarious!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,356 ✭✭✭santana75

The Valet was hilarious. He gave the film.one moment of comedy gold.

I thought it was fine tbh.

Enjoyed the scale and sweep of it.

Not sure why it's getting such a kicking from most critics, solid mid level marvel stuff.

I find Barry Keoghan a bit hit and miss...I would put his performance in this as a miss..accents are not his strong point. Liked rest of the cast Gemma Chan was excellent.

    6.5/10

I thought the valet was funny, I just felt it was at the expense of comedy/general slagging between the Eternals themselves, such as the scene when they meet up with Thena and Gilgamesh and they're sitting around the table joking with each other. I would have preferred more between the Eternals to help enhance their characters and relationships instead.

Pity it hadn't been banned here, 2.5hrs of my life etc

3 of us went to see it, all agreed - worst of Marvel film we've seen: by some distance.

$71 million opening weekend in the US, so just missed that projection.

I found it really poor to be honest like the entire cast bar Chen, Nanjiani & Lee were just phoning it in for the Marvel/Disney pay check.

Barry Keoghan was so bad in the role he was wooden giving a really bad imitation of shouty Al Pacino, It felt like they just picked so lad off the street and told him to just say the lines as best he can he had no screen presence except a please get off my screen and stop talking one.

I would have preferred two and half hours of just looking at Gemma Chen with nothing else going on.

    The Stingers in the spoilers.

Bring back the old spoilers tags these ones are terrible.

The first stinger did nothing for me except to disappoint me that this cast will be back and looks like they are going for a bad comedy version of GotG.

The second stinger alright interested me and where they will go with that.

I haven't seen it yet but seems to be the way I expected it would be from the reports and reviews. The truth is Marvel had a great 10 years but pretty much all the characters anyone really cares about from the comics have been exhausted, with the exception of Spiderman, and what's left isn't great.

They'll keep churning increasingly bad films and miniseries out and there is still plenty of money to be made off the fumes of what went before.

It's a question of how long the fumes last before audiences move on.

Definitely a whiff of decline about the MCU.

I know nobody, even some big Marvel fans, and this film in particularly they just don't really care about. They don't care about the Eternals.

That's the problem Marvel now has imo. Lack of compelling characters left especially for any sort of expansive multi movie epic.

I think the potential is still there as the more obscure character introduced, the more leeway they have to tell a good story. I really thought this film might be special for that reason.

Plus they still have the Fox characters to be fall back on as a failsafe, they'll be fine. Imagine being 13 years into a universe and they still have the likes of the X Men, Fantastic 4, Doom, Galactus, Deadpool, Silver Surfer etc....to be introduced. Too many good characters there for them to throw it away yet.

Funny thing, a lot of people were saying basically the same thing before Guardians of the Galaxy came out. That Marvel had maxxed out, the Guardians just a stupid concept nobody cared for. And look how that turned out.

Not saying Eternals is another Guardians - I haven't seen it yet and looks to be playing things a lot more earnest than the wacky, accessible hijinks of Rocket etc - but I'd be slow to speak in absolutes when it comes to where the MCU is going, or how much juice it has left. I think it's flailing, but far from moribund. Probably.

I still see it more as a planned soft reset of scale/expectations. That after Infinity War and Endgame, they purposely dropped the size and scale in a way and jumped to lesser known heroes/teams to ease things back in, and then they can start pulling back out some of the bigger names that there's more excitement for (Spiderman, Thor, Dr.Strange, Cap.Marvel, GOTG, Blade, probably Fantastic Four coming too).

Tbh the weirder the MCU gets the better. Gods as in this case, Blade, Moon Knight, Vampires, Darkhold, Ebony blade etc....I love all that stuff.

Just seen it and I'd put it in the bottom 5 of MCU films tbh. It ain't Thor The Dark World bad but it's not good.

Saw it on a giant IMAX screen over the weekend and many spots were visually amazing.

I can definitely see how some people will dislike the movie. A certain vocal element has been clamoring to move away from the normal MCU approach for a movie and this probably got far enough away to annoy hardcore MCU fans and the general public but not far enough to appease those wanting something 'different'.

It was an interesting choice to take this risk for this specific movie as I'd argue to this point it is the most difficult MCU movie land - an origin story for a very large group of unknown humanoid characters set on earth. DC has had issues cramming in too many very well known characters and this was levels above in difficulty. Sure, GotG nailed something similar but it was a much smaller group and the characters and space could really lean into the wackiness and humour - things that would never work here.

Overall, I enjoyed it but it didn't reach near the heights of other MCU movies. Looks like this will have huge impact to other movies though, while making the good choice of keeping them apart from the MCU we know. I am very interested in what they can do with the sequel now that we know the core group and they have something to build off.
