PLEASE can something be done about the three top-line tabs on the desktop version (Talk to..., Topics, Regional)

I've asked this before, and Niamh said yes, it would be looked at - but it's still the same, the cursor goes within an asses roar of them for so much as a millisecond, and the screen fills with drop-down menus.

    It's a(nother) complete PITA.

Mother of God, what is the story with the search function on mobile???

I'm trying to search for the thread on Ireland's Fittest Family.... I can't remember if there was an apostrophe in the title so I'm using "fittest family".... I've got the sum total of 7 results, none remotely related to what I'm looking for, and all of them have only "family" highlighted, it didnt even seem to have registered the word "fittest"

    Is that it??

Yeah I haven't noticed much difference in the site speed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,400 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Im logged in from a desktop and it takes about 10 seconds for every page to load. Pain in the hole.

Click the middle button of your mouse on the next page numbers. It will open the next page on a new tab while you read current page.

That way you can keep a page ahead and switch to the next tab.

Ah ok, it might be down to how I browse on desktop that I haven't noticed. I'll go to my forums or bookmarks, and open up threads I want to read in new windows. By the time I've opened everything I want to look at most are loaded already and I just close them as I finish with them. I do the same for news sites etc

Come to think of it, that habit probably extends all the way back to the when I started online, on dial-up, in the mid 90's and I've just never changed

The speed issue appears to only affect some configurations. For me (on desktop), the "load" event takes less than 4 seconds - not lightning, but certainly within an acceptable range. I suspect that there's some common aspect shared by the users that are affected: a particular adblocker, location, VPN configuration, ISP, it could even be a CPU issue. It certainly doesn't seem to be an easy one to pin down

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

I have no idea what is considered "acceptable" but I am willing to bet established boards users like most of us here will be more prepared to be a little patient, albeit while giving out, for a page to load.

    New users/lurkers simply won't bother, I bet.

Regardless of device, machine, broweser, cpu, connecton, whatever... it's still incredibly slow to load on any device I've tried. Sometimes I just close the page rather than wait for it to load. Not sure what can be done if the system is already set up the way it is. Seems like something has to fundenemtally change to speed it up but that's another kettle of fish

No doubt but it is painfully slow loading for me on 3 different Desktops

The slowness of the site is something that is being investigated but I'm not sure what solutions have come up yet. I know it's been looked into over the last couple of months and small changes are being made to fix various issues that might be slowing things down. If anything major shows up, I will keep you posted.

I've found the site is now running fairly quick on desktop (I think turning off AdBlock has helped a little as well).

I'm not using an Adblocker and it's annoyingly slow for me on Desktop

    @Boards.ie: Niamh

When I get a PM on Desktop, the notification shows on the envelope, but when I click it, it returns an error, on the error Msg. window there's a link to view all messages which does allow me to see the new Msg. Just another annoyance that was reported long ago but nothing seems to have been done about it.

Thanks @Gadgetman496 this was reported and is being looked into at the moment so hopefully we'll have a resolution to it soon. As you said, clicking in All Messages will take you to your newmessage or also clicking on the notification (if you have those enabled for PMs)

I wonder if it's any faster in North America, considering that it's all hosted in Canada now?

Has whoever is investigating bothered using the Lighthouse DevTool that is built into all chromium browsers. It literally takes 30 seconds at most to run the diagnostic and is quite insightful.

I'd hazard a guess that they have but I really don't ask them about how they do their job. Insights are one thing, resolving what it throws up is another.

Accidentally unsubbed to this thread, so haven't been keeping pace.

However, the drop off of moderators is clearly becoming an issue. I don't remember the last time I saw mod action in Cork City or Galway City & County (the subs I visit the most) when both were pretty well moderator pre-changeover. Indeed, @Boards.ie: Niamh had to intervene to shut a Galway City & County thread because biko has effectively vanished. Threads are descending into off topic messes, irrelevant posts are clogging up threads and unfettered rumours & gossip prevail.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
