I guess the message will get out there to the unvaccinated sooner or later, will be too late for some but…

With any number we have to understand what it means. Unless the age demographic of CV19 hospitalisations has changed, that means most un-vaxxed are elderly. If so, what is the reason they are not vaxxed? Probably because they are to ill or frail to receive a vaccine and the reason they are in ICU in the first place.

There seem to be a good number of younger women in there too, some commentary has also been made about those pregnant ending up in ICU so not all old and frail. Their compliance level is way over 90% anyway.

We had a meal in a local Asian restaurant last week . Know the owner from going in a few years now . He said he had heard they would probably be closing down again in December . Didn’t get a chance to talk to him afterwards or how he heard it but wasn’t expecting to hear that .

Fair enough, but did he know his tracker mortgages or was he caught out?

It's so hard to see them allowing pubs to be open for December considering what the festives bring

After summer Christmas is a huge time for the hospitality industry and places need to be open with as many less restrictions as possible

In town tonight depressing to see it is heading for closure again couple of bar owners not hiring more staff because soundings not being positive for december as for 22/10 opening forget it

Has there been any mentioning by the government in regards to if/when another lockdown will occur? I prefer to know in advance. It seems as though it would be likely, given the rates and hospitalisation, but yet restrictions are being lifted. It's hard to know what to think about all of it. I tried watching RTE, but it isn't mentioning much more than current reopening schedules and NPHET being very concerned. Nowhere have I read how bad it must get for another lockdown to be considered or if it'll ever be considered again.

Wednesday week, i'm led to believe.

With the risk of being very unpopular, I really hope so. The numbers are scary and I work in an acute hospital, it's beyond hectic. Virus spreading like wildfire between patients and staff (all vaccinated too).

Definitely keep an eye on boards, you'll hear it first here before the news, media etc.

No there won't, how are they going to sell a lockdown with our vaccination rate? "Restrictions" like indoor capacity etc may return in some form, but the days of the 5km restrictions and everyone sitting at home won't be back.

Why do people keep saying we’re vaccinated, as if that stops people getting the virus or stops it spreading. It doesn’t.

No, once the nursing homes were vaccinated that was job done.

It's this simple - if I'm vaccinated and I get it, I may have no symptoms at all, a.k.a if I don't feel sick, I am not sick.

If I am not sick, and spread the virus - well that's basically the same thing as normal flu season isn't it? I might have no flu symptoms but the virus is on my hands or whatever and someone else catches it. Do you stop going out every year and isolate yourself because the flu is around? Covid isn't going anywhere, I've got my vaccine and I'm resuming life as normal.

Yea but if I pass the flu on to vulnerable people I probably won’t kill them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭Micky 32

If i was a vulnerable person i don’t think i’d want the flu either. The flu is dangerous to vulnerable people too.

So , lay it on the table. Would a loverly big permanent auld lockdown keep you nice and snug and happy? Is that what you’d like to see? Are you happy for society to shut down permanently and life be just an existence while running to the tv every evening to get your daily numbers fix?

I’m not saying I want to see it. I was just making the point that this vaccine isn’t protecting us

    It's helping protect us.

If you pass on Covid to a vulnerable person who is vaccinated, you probably won't kill them.

Yes it is. There's far fewer people in the hospital as a result. It's just not slowing the spread as much as we had hoped.

Yes it is protecting you. You’re chances of hospitalisation and icu are significantly slashed. The evidence is there.

On one hand they say '' we'll have to live with Covid, its here FOREVER''

On the other hand we still get notified every SINGLE day about the cases '' today there was 2357 new cases of covid'' ........... who gives a fck, 2357 cases of covid, and not a single one of those people even knew they had it, so why on earth do I need to know.

What kind of nonsense is that? "...you probably won't kill them". This is the granny killers narrative again. Nobody is going around killing people with a virus ffs. 🙄

I was repeating the terminology used by the poster I was replying to.

There are a lot of people who are de facto begging for lockdown.

Their membership used to be restricted to a hardcore group known as "anti-maskers". It has recently expanded to include general ignorant gobshites and lazy people.

It appears from reading posts that there are a few on here

To be fair, there isn't an answer to your question yet. The vaccine means it's a moving target. We don't know how high transmissions can go without the hospitalisation and death rate going too high. I doubt there will be need for full lockdown this year (barring a new variant which throws things into chaos) but there will very likely be restrictions through the winter.

There just isn't certainty, It's not as if there is certainty any nobody is telling us.

I would expect another lockdown before xmas but not as severe as previous versions.Pubs, cinemas, restaurants, gyms, weddings prob get a knock of some kind.A new variant will probably make itself known in the new year-I mean after Delta Plus settles down or gets ignored

Is it possibly a new strain?

Our experts (who are paid to watch for this kind of thing) would hardly have not noticed it - again -would they?.

Shure it must be the unvaccinated/Brits that have caused this.
