Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I don't think I have ever seen Hetmyer play an innings to justify the hype.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭MFPM

Australia bowled well enough but they made hard work of the chase, Warner is still out of form, not the IPL version of Maxwell though it's the first match. Agree with you though, it will be a surprise if either are in the semis though given how the WI are playing today, you never know.

England immense so far, some so so shots from the Windies though.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

west Indies might as well throw the kitchen sink at it... as they are now prodding and blocking they’ll be lucky to get 80 runs on the board...

leaving a RRR of 4 or less. Not competitive.

Morgan is quite good at this captaincy lark.

    WI 49 for 9

The stadium announcers are, what I believe the young people would call "cringe".

55 all out, not going to be defendable or close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

Rashid 4 wickets, 2 runs conceded. WI all out for 55.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

England caught very well. WI were such a shambles it's hard to make a judgement on the bowling. I mean, the second over of spin rarely works never mind Moeen bowling his four in a row.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,221 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

not sure how this is with the 3rd umpire, a clear catch

West Indies showing some fight here, England throwing away wickets. That's a catch! Finger under the ball at all times IMO - has to give that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

England are lucky they are not chasing many more, that was a good catch, and I don’t know why the decision took so long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yes, always out, not sure why the TV umpire needed about 27 replays of 8 different camera angles.... bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Good result for England. Made a meal of it for sure. Chasing NNR was the right approach though. Both teams batting aside from Buttler will be happy to forget this game ever happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,221 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

i know WI were useless today, but this england team will take some beating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

6 wickets in hand and almost 12 overs left very handy. After the score in the qualifiers and the Aus SA game today high scores may not be the flavour of this tournament.

Tasty match in Sharjah. Bangladesh posting 171/4 against Sri Lanka

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Sri Lanka have recovered well after the double wicket over by Shakib and losing Hasaranga the over after that. Well placed to get them now.

    Bangladesh catching letting them down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

SL have it down to under a run a ball now.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Wouldn't be shocked if Sri Lanka get out of the group.

    Good win for Sri Lanka

Pakistan doing well so far, 3 overs of India's innings to go 114 for 4.

    Pakistan need 152 to win.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

India are being humbled here. Pakistan 125-0 in 15.1 overs. Below a run a ball needed now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭MFPM

Some performance by Pakistan sends out a big message.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Afghanistan flying along 111-2 after 13 overs. Scotland staring at a big chase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Scotland falling apart to the bowling of Mujeeb. He has four. 37-5 end of the powerplay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭No_Hope_Club

It's very difficult for an Associate team to play against quality spinners. It requires exposure to them over a long period of time.

That's one of the big difference between us and the test nations, the quality of spinners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Did Jimmy Anderson come up Scotland's game plan against spin. Sweep and reverse sweeping every ball. Total performance by Afghanistan. Looking very good to surprise a few in this group. Could see Australia struggling to cope with these spinners.

Afghanistan are well suited for T20 cricket. They are 8th top ranked team. Nabi is top ranked T20 all-rounder, 3rd & 5th top ranked bowlers, 10th ranked batter.

Another loss today for the West Indies, another day asking why Holder and Narine aren't playing. Despite trying to lose the game by forcing their only world class batsman to pull out, South Africa won it handy.

Pakistan wobbled a bit but overcame New Zealand easy in the end. NZ not helped by Locke Ferguson getting injured and is out of the tournament now. Pakistan look the team to beat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,156 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

These pitches are kryptonite for West Indies sadly.

Give them roads and they will murder pretty much everyone, but here you need more than bashers. I am surprised that Chase was not brought in to play the Samuels role, hopefully next match he comes in and ideally Simmons never plays again. Gayle has to open or not play also.

Its a pretty old team and even those who are around the 30 or so mark have plenty of issues, Russell especially due to all his recent injuries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Yet Narine wasn't selected for fitness reasons. Won games for KKR with ball and bat. Holder carried a bad Sunrisers side with both as well.

100% Simmons can play the next game. Felt sorry for him today. Their plan of not worrying about dots and catching up with sixes won't work here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭MFPM

West Indies are on the way out by the looks of things, they need to beat Bangladesh now. Pakistan flying, T20 is arguably the weakest format for NZ but they're still a good side so two excellent victories for Pakistan.

On another note really poor form by Quinton DeKock on the issue of the solidarity gesture of taking the knee. His comments are at best ambiguous on the matter but they hint at a poor attitude on the issue of racsim. I can get on board with a sportsperson, particularly someone of colour being a bit cynical and seeing this as gesture politics but I suspect that's not where DeKock is coming from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Cricket South Africa shouldn't be forcing their players to perform anything that they're uncomfortable with. Taking the knee, outside of America, was a bad joke to begin with, why it's a thing still I don't know. The situation is very complex in SA, he'll have his reasons and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I have no sympathy with the board. They don't deserve the white cricketers that put up all the crap there to keep them relevant on the world stage.

Neither have I, he is a poor player who only scores runs when the team is well on top, he hardly ever digs in, he is also horribly unfit, and has a poor attitude, he will probably be done soon, a nothing player. On another note, what was Simmonds at? Also Gayle should open or not play at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

If he has valid reasons for refusing to take the knee, he should be prepared to state those reasons publicly. Otherwise, it comes across as a racist refusal to agree that Black Lives Matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

To anyone who says he shouldn’t have to explain his reasons, I disagree. James McClean has come in for a lot of criticism for his refusal to wear a poppy and he wrote an open letter to the chairman of his club explaining his reasons. If De Kock has valid, non-racist, reasons for his refusal to take the knee, he should be glad of the opportunity to explain himself. If his reason is based in racism, then he should rightfully be dropped from the team and never picked again.

Bangladesh not coping with Moeen and Woakes. 27-3 in the powerplay after choosing to bat first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

England will win this at a canter, 75-1 after 8, they’ll make this after 15 overs or less... Bangladesh not competitive... although English have been impressive with ball and bat it must be said... batsmen really aggressive..

scotland lose their first wicket off the first delivery they faced...Munsey chopping a full and straight one back onto his stumps, two down as I type, McLeod goes for a duck, thin edge back to the keeper off Trumplemann. Set up nicely. Three down as I type but this looks like being overturned..NO ! It’s clipping... Scotland 2-3 after 0.4. Fukkk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,426 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

The Scots in all sorts of trouble early on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Wish Trumpelmann saved that over for Rohit and KL rather than the poor Scots.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭Scoundrel

Michael Leask with good knock of 44 off 27 to save the Scots from total humiliation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Namibia digging themselves into a bit of a hole. Still plenty of overs and wickets to work with. Good Scottish bowling especially by Wheal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Good start, a really good start but ran into a flurry of dot balls, two quick wickets now 3 down... that said Namibia only need less then a run a ball...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Namibia needing less then a run a ball and batsman stumped after charging 3 meters down the pitch trying to flick a single into the leg side... they lose this that will be talked about...

    35 now from 36

Interesting match with Sri Lanka vs Australia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Asalanka is a great weapon in the powerplay. 53-1 is a very good start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Sri Lanka were very disappointing. Couldn't deal with Zampa and lost all batting momentum. Then bowled pure rubbish.

I suppose Australia need to be taken more seriously now. Big game against England on Saturday.
