    Ridiculous system tbh. There should be a vacant land lax on specific zoned land . There should be a tax on vacant properties in specific zoned areas.

    If it costs people to sit on these you can be dam sure they'll do something with it. And that includes government owned properties.

    Surely corporate owners should have zero exemptions available for a vacant land tax when the vacancy arises in an area designated as an area where there should be no vacancy (ie city or town). That to me is the ultimate low hanging fruit to get the vacancy tax up to a meaningful amount quickly. Even where there is renovation or development work, it should prompt quicker action to complete the work and sell or let the place.
