    Anyone watched it yet?

I liked it. It took a turn pretty quickly I wasn't expecting. It's quite mellow and nice too, like it's a gentle comedy, which I was worried it wouldn't be when I saw the cast.

Wish there was more than 2 eps up though, especially when they're only 30ish minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,886 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I enjoyed the first 3 episodes and felt it got better as it went along.

Just great to see Steve Martin and Martin Short together on screen again and to be fair Gomez is bouncing off both really well.

I've always liked Selena Gomez. Not a huge fan of her music career but she was a rare Disney kid that actually seemed to understand comedy acting and not just ham it up.

I've only watched the first 2 but she seems to be holding her own against the two veterans.

Hard to get an idea of the tone of this show based on what I've read so far so I'll have to jump in and give the first two episodes a watch. I have heard good things though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,306 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I have only watched the first two episodes....but hugely enjoying it.

You can tell Steve Martin and Martin short are close friends in real life they have a brilliant rapport, but Selena Gomez is a bit of a revelation I haven't seen her act in anything before. Looking forward to episode 3.

Gives you real sense of New York...plus those apartments wowsers.

The podcast is also so spot on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

I love this show. First episode had me a bit worried, but it found it's feet in the next two episodes and had some very funny lines. Gorgeous looking show too: I love those old New York buildings. Martin Short has really settled into things too. I initially thought that he might be a bit OTT but now he's actually acting rather than just being Martin Short :) Sting as a potential murder suspect is a great addition too!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Can we keep in mind that some of us are watching at Irish pace, meaning anyone watching at US pace is an episode ahead. Sting isn't a huge spoiler but who knows what might happen in later eps.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was going to put in a spoiler but I couldn't figure out how to do it (still can't!). I'll be more careful.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

No need no apologise. Your post just made me realise that it could be an issue at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

Another cracker of an episode. The addition of Tina Fey's character makes things very interesting now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,306 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Just finished episode 3....it is such a fun watch...Nathan Lane.

I would totally go to see Splash! The musical.

Plus...don't stand so close to Sting....

It is quite enjoyable, good trio

    Another thumbs up from me

I thought at the start that I might like this but after this week I think I love it. There's something oddly comforting about it.

Ep 4 - I thought Sting was going to be a one off throw away joke so I was surprised to see him again this week. His little song was great.

Started this over the weekend because Steve Martin and Martin short you can hook to my veins. I knew who Selena Gomez was and that she was in TV as a kid and I wasn’t sure how she’d gel with the two lads but after two episodes she seems to be doing good. She doesn’t sound like I expected her to either.

I'm 3 episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. Is Disney+ always going to be a week behind? It's not even that clear to me what day it gets released on Disney+ now since they moved away from Friday releases.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,786 ✭✭✭Bawnmore

I'm enjoying this one also. For some reason I've gotten caught up watching 3 or 4 shows now with weekly releases, which is a bit annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,043 ✭✭✭steve_r

Really enjoying this. Reminds me a lot of "Bored to Death" from a few years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I liked Bored to Death but it's all very hazy. I can't believe it's 10 years since it's no longer airing.

This show on the other hand I absolutely adore after 5 episodes. Really impressed with it on multiple levels. It's like the show I never really knew I wanted but is exactly what I needed right now,

Watched the 5 episodes and I love it. Great cast with a great script. Martin and Short are brilliant.

I like a lot of early Steve Martin stuff but i didn't think the trailer for this was in any way funny. Not sure if I'll commit yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Looks like it's added to Disney+ at 8.00am on Tuesdays. I now look forward to 8.00am each Tuesday so I can watch this before work. I'm proper hooked.

What a truly brilliant non spoken episode this week.

The use of the soundtrack was amazing and that scrabble game :)

    Scrabblesexting rocks.

That may not be a plot spoiler but I'd really love to have gone into what is "next week's episode" in my Disney+ world not knowing the above.

    :(

Well it does say hulu in the thread title not Disney.

    The episode.

Loved the whole way they did silent approach to episode and the scrabble gag was fantastic.

I would where they will go now with that ending.

I pointed this out earlier in the thread in the hopes people might be careful when posting if they're watching at US pace. It's not a plot spoiler, as you say, but I hope people will keep it in mind if/when plot reveals start happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,339 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

So I watched episode 7 last night and I won’t give anything away but I found the way the episode was done to be very interesting and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a TV episode done in that way before.

Only 4 episodes in so far, but enjoying it. As I get older, I'm enjoying these light comedies better.

It's the final episode? Aw no. I have loved this and binge watched all the episodes in the last few days. I was hoping for lots more episodes 😊

Agree and a surprisingly easy watch.

A like something a bit different.

Next weeks finale is set up nicely now.

I just don't get Jane Lynch she is Jane Lynch in every show she is in, Why do actors who play the same character in everything keep getting work.

I've only just watched episode 8, "Fan Fiction" and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I could see that ending coming but looking forward to the last 2 episodes 😀

Fantastic end to a fantastic series.

Looking forward to season 2 now!!!

Well I enjoyed the antics of the characters in the finale but overall I'm disappointed.

I hate that they used the first episode's opening hook, with Mabel over the dead body, as the cliffhanger again into continuing the show into another season. It took me out of the episode as I kept thinking they had forgotten all about that opening part, and then they throw it in at the last minute.

I enjoyed the final episode. Even better I seem to have forgotten last week's episode so I had two to watch. I enjoyed them both and had forgotten all about

the opening scene so was a bit delighted to see that. I wonder if Mabel's reference to loose ends was a reference to that?

They are apparently working on series 2 right now and while looking that up I discovered that there is an official podcast for the show as well. Something to keep us entertained while we have withdrawal symptoms ☺️

Just finished ep7...terrific lovely watch of a series so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I hadn't realised until today that Disney+ had released the final two episodes this week. Was patiently waiting for next Tuesday to catch the finale.

Overall a great series although I thought it peaked mid season. The actual mystery was of little interest to me and it became more prominent as the show went on as you'd expect.

The second season has the potential to be great if the plan is to centre it around Tina Fey's inevitable Serial-like podcast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

Overall, I enjoyed the show, but I feel the younger cast let it down. We needed more Short/Martin and definitely less of Selena Gomez with her horrible voice, and her charisma-free boyfriend. Any scenes with them and my enjoyment of the show plummeted. Amy Ryan was great in it though and ended up playing against type. It was a bit ridiculous at the end, with the showdown in the boiler-room, although I did enjoy Martin being wheeled around in Short's doggie-pram :) The repetitive musical motif started to get on my nerves too after a while and distracted from the action. Overall I couldn't give it more than 5.5/10 although that's not bad to me. It's a fluff show, and hopefully there will be more of Tina Fey's egomaniacal podcaster in the second season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,150 ✭✭✭Xander10

It was different. It was an easy watch. Really liked the signed episode as something different.

Wouldn't be going overboard about it. A 6 or 7 out of 10.

A bit disappointed to see the lazy entrance into season 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭archfi

I loved it, comfortable funny viewing with mystery thrown in and two of film comedy's best artists to boot.

very enjoyable viewing. binged it over a few evenings. pretty perfect lengths per episode

i wouldn't agree that the first scene / last scene cliff-hanger was lazy. if it had have been Oscar i would have agreed, but the tie dye wearer turned out to be both surprising and funny.

and the 'tie dye' aspect of the story through every episode (apart from maybe 7, i cant recall) so its not as if they just presented the opening scene and made no reference to it until the end of the season.

Just finished it today after weeks of broadband issues. Really enjoyed the whole series and I liked the ending, and the set up for S2. It'll be interesting to see how they structure it.

I was howling with laughter through the last episode, especially the scenes with the lift, and the call back to Sting.
