Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Looks great.

Despite being 90+% similar design it seems far better than the s class. For some reason this looks less like a background vehicle in some 90s sci-fi movie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 717 ✭✭✭UhOh

Interior looks class on this and the EQS. The exterior is just dreadful though, certainly in videos & pics anyway. Hopefully it might be a bit more pleasing to the eye in the flesh.

    Any guess on price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,063 ✭✭✭BKtje

I bought an a class hybrid pretty much fully specced a year ago which i love to drive when in electric only mode. Hybrid mode is fine too but I miss the silence and smoothness when the petrol engine kicks in.

Ill be keeping a close eye on this and hope to get one depending on the price of the 4 wheel drive version. Ill give the rwd version a go as well.

With regards looks, I'll wait to see it in the metal before giving a verdict but it's not something super important to me.

looks pretty great to me - the exterior is dull but that's the aero for you...

I actually saw an EQS in geneva airport a few weeks ago .... and it is MASSIVE - can't stress how big it is - looks tailored to American and Chinese markets; suspect the EQE will suit our roads and sensibilities somewhat better

Just been told the Irish prices start at €88k for the 350

  • Registered Users Posts: 717 ✭✭✭UhOh

Didn’t think it’d be that high. 350 is listed at €67k on the Mercedes.de site, was thinking maybe mid-high €70s here.

So it’ll be a mid 90’s car with metallic and amg line probably. Crazy money for a mid size executive car.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,139 ✭✭✭blingrhino

Porsche Taycan terrority at that price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 500 ✭✭✭PaulJoseph22

Good to see the premium car makers making ev’s now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,617 ✭✭✭celtic_oz

main dealer told me, said there will be a slightly cheaper 300 variant but not much..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,574 ✭✭✭carsfan2

    That’s a lot

easily 90k plus when you add delivery, metallic paint and any extras.

    not exceptionally quick either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,227 ✭✭✭Kramer

    Add the 360 parking camera & adaptive cruise control/driver assist packages & you're well over €100,000 😮.

VRT on EVs here is very low too so we're into Paddy tax again.......celtic tiger boom times repeating again.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Didn't you pay similar money for a combustion engine BMW X5? At least with this Mercedes your fuel bill and your maintenance bill and your depreciation bill will be tiny, unlike the huge amounts you paid for your BMW...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,574 ✭✭✭carsfan2

    This is an e class/5 series/Audi A6 competitor car.

Another words it competes in a 60k segment not a 100k bracket. The price of these cars is outrageous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 717 ✭✭✭UhOh

Had a flick through the configurator, not much included as standard, hard to know where this car sits or who’s going to buy one - 11 grand for that hyper screen…..

It's a German car. The lack of standard features is brutal, just like any €100k BMW or Porsche EV. Active cruise control and lane keep assist are not even standard on those cars either which is a disgrace and an embarrassment. It was standard on the €25k Hyundai econobox EV that I bought over 5 years ago.

    The price is mind boggling.

    The luxury is sublime though.

    330bhp is meh!

WLPT of 700plus km is nonsense. It might do 600km.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭rodge123

Absolutely hideous looking externally. Taycan and Etron GT miles better looking, model S too and the I4 although smaller and lower price point. I personally couldn’t drop 100k on something so ugly regardless of the range.

Be interesting to see will 100k be around the price point for the Audi A6 Etron and BMW I5…quite a jump from their ICE equivalents!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,574 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I’m sorry but 90k plus for a questionable looking electric e class when a diesel e220d for 60k looks better and has a real world range of 1000km.

I am not an advocate for diesel cars but it’s too big a price leap. It needs to be max 10k more expensive than combustion e class to be accessible.

I can’t see this clogging our roads in the near future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,059 ✭✭✭kirving

A diesel E-Class isn't accessible to the vast majority of the general public either, at least not new. I'm not sure of the percentages bought as company cars, but it's certainly more than say a Golf would be. Mercedes, Electric, low BIK (for a while anyway), cheap to run - it'll sell well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,227 ✭✭✭Kramer

I specced one up to €133k. It's insane money.

    There's no USP here. It's just an e-class. It's not particularly fast, by EV standards & doesn't charge fast either. It's not 800v. Doesn't stand out in any way. Taycan = it's a Porsche! E-Tron GT = cool as f*uk. S-Class = pinnacle of Mercedes engineering/flagship & kudos. i4 M50 = it's a BMW & goes like stink.

E-class = relatively boring, middle of the road & bland, mile muncher.

At €100k+ & with DC fast charging hitting 50c/kWh+, diesels will still be the choice for business travellers/reps etc.

Not too long ago one could have had 4x new Ioniqs for less. They were very well specced, there was free & readily available DC charging & they charged faster (C rate).

    TL;DR - I've just ordered one................................not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭brokenangel

You could of had 4 ioniq and the one Merc would be better 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,821 ✭✭✭Old diesel

The 86 k price version isn't the base model I understand.

There is a cheaper 300 version coming wheras the model at present is an EQE 350

And yes that 86 k is pre options but so is your e class example

And as for the business use/sales rep examples...

How many of them are using 60 grand E class cars in the first place.

On high mileage operations you would likely be on subscriptions if you are actually rapid charging each day.

At under a fiver a month subscription on ESB eCars you can access a 50 kw charger for 39.4 cent per kwh.

That's for a normal Joe soap non Fleet account. I wonder will fleet use accounts become a thing (ie discounts for regular use).

Am I alone in seeing strong hints of the Toyota Avensis in the EQE?

New pricelist includes 300 and 500 models. good standard equipment makes it not as bad value as I previously thought.

Took a look at this today, lining up for a 24 hour test drive next weekend.

Was told I could have one by February.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,063 ✭✭✭BKtje

Let us know how you get on please. Do you know what model you will be test driving?

My heart wants the "smaller" AMG model but my head says the EQE 500 is more than enough before adding that, in fact, my current hybrid A class is more than enough 😅 I will have to contact the local dealer to see what the fleet price reduction is for me. Hopefully there isn't one so that I can put the idea out of my head completely 😋

    I will, I think it will be a 350+.

The full AMGs look great but get pricey. I had 30k of options added before I knew, the packs are expensive!

Keep us updated @AidenL. By all means it looks like the EQE is an excellent EV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,063 ✭✭✭BKtje

The AMG's come with a bit more of the kit as standard (at least in Swiss market). The non AMG version I had to add 30k chf worth of options and the AMG version "only" 20k

Out of the legacy automakers there's no doubt in my eyes that Merc are real dark horses.

Making the EQXX into a fully working car and not only proving its efficiency and range on real roads.

But letting journos drive it too - is a real statement of intent.

The EQS and EQE are pretty impressive on the EV side. Just need to work on getting the latter closer to normal E class pricing

Have a test drive booked for Friday / Saturday next.

The i4 and Etron gt were the best cars ever when he reviewed them also!! 😀

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭AidenL

I finally had a test drive today in a 300, really nice, comfy, seemed to be a bit less urgent in acceleration than my current 530e. Lovely finish and interior.

I’m interested in it though, so waiting to run some numbers and will see about sledding one up perhaps. Options rack up really quickly.

But tempted to wait and see how the i5 turns out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭joe1303l

When you add some spec, you’ll be close to an EQS price wise. At that money I’d be looking at a used Taycan or Audi GT. EQE is a fine EV but I don’t think it looks the money.

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭AidenL

I hear you, but I’d imagine the EQE would be a fair bit more practical, though for general day to day driving.

I specced a 350 4 matic to 125k , so it does rack up. Looked at the Etron gt yesterday too, but didn’t test drive it.

There was a lovely looking EQS 450 there, but another 10k jump.

i never feel worthy enough to enter a Porsche showroom!

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭AidenL

Well, I won’t be going with an EQE.

The trade in offered was way less than against a BMW and the GFV was sitting at 35%. Means they expect heavy depreciation, or want to generate a healthy positive equity agains the next one.

I worry it might be depreciation, and that the typical Mercedes E buyer might prefer diesel or petrol or hybrid.

Not anyway, I’ll have to pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,574 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I'm surprised you got a low trade in. I thought all dealers came in similarly regardless of the brand.

If you're in a BMW 5 series currently than wait for the i5 maybe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 983 ✭✭✭AidenL

    I have a 211 530e X Drive on 32k km at the moment, with a high spec.

i5 would be attractive. I still have a side eye on the LCI X5 50e too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 996 ✭✭✭bbari

I test drove both EQE and EQS also. Surprisingly Merc garage offered more for my 5 series than the BMW garage did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Donie75

So I see that Mercedes have cut the price of the EQE and it now starts around early to mid 60’s. This seems like a very good price when you compare it to the likes of the ID7.

Does anyone on here have an EQE? What is the entry level spec like? What is the range like with motorway driving at 120kph.
