The problem with this pox is in both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. The vaccines we have currently are "leaky" and though they're a major undeniable(unless one is a moron) positive in that they reduce deaths and serious illness, they reduce spread but don't stop it to the degree it needs to be stopped. So we'll have a pool of the unvaccinated breeding new strains and a pool of the vaccinated breeding strains too. The problem with the latter is that by virtue of basic natural selection those strains are very likely to select for bypassing the current vacines. Add in falling vaccine efficacy over time and the vaccinated quite naturally wanting to get back to normal bloody life after the shítshow of the last 18 months and dropping their guard we're likely to have more spread of the current pox and a rise in variants. And I can't see us getting out of this until a far less leaky vaccines that massively reduce transmission and hammers all strains comes along.*

*and some promising research into those who previously survived SARS and who got a Covid vaccines shows they are extremely resistant to covid and current strains and other strains in that particular family of poxes.

Absolutely hilarious to see the tantrums in here over a man not getting the vax.

He tested Negative for Covid today. Impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,639 ✭✭✭Tork

He'd want to be negative after taking (in his own words) "Monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, Z-pak (zithromax), prednisone, everything, and..a NAD drip and a vitamin drip (and I did that three days in a row)". Rich man with access to the best of healthcare gets better. Many of his fans won't be so fortunate.

It's the hysteria that ensues when a professional grifter is criticised that I find fascinating.

    Again with the gas lighting.

I know you're just going to keep lying so I'll skip the nonsense and add you to my ignore list now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭OMM 0000

He was claiming it is only spreading and mutating because of the unvaccinated.

I don't understand why so many people need to be extremists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭OMM 0000

Oh wow, this stupid version of boards won't let me ignore you because your profile is "private".

How is it possible such basic functionality is still broken? Have they given up?

    "GASLIGHTING" LOL

    I quoted YOU verbatim

You're a coward for not having the conviction to admit what you said in black and white (people only have to read what you posted anyway to see it) and now more cowardice by trying to ignore me.

Typical CT trumpism from you. Spread lies and run away when challenged on it. Pathetic!!!!

You keep using this word, gaslighting. I do not think it means what you think it means.

You claimed the virus spreading and mutations are due to the unvaccinated, and when I pointed out this is false you moved the goal posts and are now trying to pretend I'm the one who was misleading people.

    What's wrong with you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭OMM 0000

OK figured out a workaround for ignoring people who have their profile set to private.

Ignore and then unignore a random person. It'll bring you to a page when you can manually ignore people by typing their username.

This website is really unusable if you're forced to see the posts from extremist / unhappy / unwell folks.

Fair play to Joe managing to get out of the Covid so fast, something in the cocktail he took worked also love how the moronic media tried to make him look sick and on death's door from his Instagram post they hate him and his success!

Like really who cares. If he wants to take horse drugs, if he wants to get vaccinated or not, if he wants to get stoned on his podcasts it's his own body and life. Personally im fully vaccinated and i wear masks when required that's my choice. Why can't people just except others are free to make their own choice?

The site is a complete mess and impossible to navigate now. Ireland football game the other night and impossible to find a thread to talk about the match. Ireland's leading discussion forum my arse.

    :)

So you have reading and comprehension problems on top of everything else. I'm not surprised in the least to be honest.

So one more time, slowly this time, I'm going to post back to you EXACTLY what you yourself said.... Ready??

"The reason the virus is mutating and continuing to spread has nothing to do with the unvaccinated"

That comment is lies. It's factually incredibly wrong.

So I'm going to post again my response, just so you don't continue to go misrepresenting what I said.

The unvaccinated are the singular biggest reason for the vaccine mutations, and not being vaccinated is the singular biggest cause of transmission.

So for the last time, stop telling lies

Because it's a cult. You have to agree with everything they say or they'll completely spazz out.

There are of course alternative treatments for covid, with time there will be plenty more. That's up to individuals themselves to either partake in the vaccine or not. The vaccine isn't a cure for it.

I personally chose to have the vaccine. I hate being bashed by people who think I'm an idiot for doing so. It has to go both ways, if someone doesn't want it, so be it.

Rogan did not take a drug for horses.

Ivermectin has been prescribed for humans in 3.5 billion doses in the last few decades.

I don't have any prejudice in favour of Ivermectin, I know next to nothing about it.

However when you see people using partisan talking points/memes as if Ivm was a us-them political issue, I know that *those people* (though not necessarily others) have a prejudice against it rather than some scienticifically dispassionate objection.

They should stick to the facts. Jokes/partisanship look way more suss than they probably even realise.

To be fair, both positions are a tad simplistic. This is not a simple either/or question. Vaccination is very important. It clearly reduces serious illness and death in the vaccinated population and is a major tool in fighting this pox. However as I said earlier the current crop of vaccines are leaky. They do reduce transmission(good thing), but they certainly don't reduce it enough as this virus is still spreading at that lower rate in the vaccinated(bad thing). Now because of the higher rate of transmission in the unvaccinated population you will certainly have a higher chance of new variants emerging as the more cycles of reproduction the more mutations which will give rise to new strains. On the other hand; of the two groups, the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, in which group is the virus more likely to select for a variant that bypasses the vaccines?

I've kind of lost count of the amount of right wing Conservative, commentators, radio hosts and generally delusional celebrities not just in the US who've caught Covid after pretty much denying its existence and by default been anti vaccine. I sympathise with them, in more ways than one

Just to point out that JR isn't right wing, isn't a Covid denier and has stated he's pro vaccine.*

*He has said if a fit 20 year old asked him if he needed to be vaxed he'd say no. Some read that as Anti Vax others don't.

I stand corrected albeit whilst perhaps not right wing, certainly Conservative, I was making a general point re High profile commentators. I took him as being not fully accepting of the existence of Covid or at a minimum its affects. I do take your point about vaccines but again a general comment about Conservative Commentators.

The issue is that while you have two populations of vaccinated and unvaccinated people, they're not separate so the way the virus mutates isn't so much down to vaccinated vs unvaccinated IMO. Here in the UK at least, nobody is asking for vaccine certificates though I got mine from the NHS last week knowing I'll probably never need it. Masks and social distancing are great if used correctly but that's not really the case IME. YMMV of course.

A vaccine should of course prevent transmission. It's basically the point of vaccination because if you prevent transmission successfully in enough people, you eradicate the disease. However, covid doesn't play by the rules it would seem. Therefore, I would argue that the current batch of vaccines with their short lived protection, two-shot administration and limited effect on transmission are better than nothing.

If the vaccines did work perfectly and provided sufficient protection, we'd still have anti-vaxxers doing their thing regardless. It doesn't make a difference how good the vaccine is or isn't, the hucksters would still be singing the virtues of bleach, sheep de-wormer or whatever.

The problem is that there is a big correlation between those in the US who believe that unproven (Ivermectin has shown no evidence of either helping to prevent or treat Covid in 14 trials - NY Times Sep 2) treatments like Ivermectin or Hydroxychloroquine (yes some still believe in it amazingly and Trump and Fox news are still pushing it in 2021) and those who have refused to get the Vaccine.

Trump himself recently released a list of things “they are now admitting I was right about” that included, with no qualification, “Hydroxychloroquine works.”

Not surprisingly it's mainly Trump supporters here both not taking the proven vaccines and believing in the "alternative" treatments.

So Rogan pushing Ivermectin by saying that he took it and is fine now is just fuelling the fire.

More unvaccinated people amongst his 13 million Instagram followers will die of Covid in the US

99.2% of the people who died from Covid in the US in June were unvaccinated people.

He'll be fine though. He'll have the best healthcare that money can buy. If a few of his followers have to bite the bullet so he can keep making money then so be it.

You do know he's advising people to avail of the vaccine? He's not a covid denier or anti vaxx, why do you persist with this line?
