Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    50 MB/s = 400 Mb/s so he's close enough.

    No, this is awful, just terrible and if anything we should all be getting 5,000 MB/s minimum at all times, even wireless with 15 walls/ceilings between our favourite seat and the router!!! :p

    I am using the Archer C7 using the steps in the first few posts of this thread.

    Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to the Archer AX10 (currently €100 in powercity) and if it is a better option as the C7 randomly loses wifi signal daily and needs to be turned off/on?

    Sorry Plascebo, just saw this, but I actually happened to buy the AX20 for my sister recently. Was a bargain at £69 on amazon. Only have it a short time, but seems like a very nice router and has been worked fine for now. I like that it has the ability to work as part of a mesh network if needed in future.

    My sister is only limited to 80mb/s VDSL, however on internal speed tests from a modern Wifi 6 supporting iPad Air, I'm seeing speeds of up to 865mb/s!

    It is probably way overkill for her needs, but it has nicely fixed the terrible performance she was getting out of her ISP supplied router, about 5mb/s in some rooms!

    Was reduced to €125 on amazon.de yesterday. Just wondering if there is any configuration I need to do to the router before using it, like I had to do with the C7?

    Ah yes those ASUS routers are great too. If I was getting a new one myself I’d probably go with an Asus one myself.

    Setup should be straight forward, just unplug your C7 and put the Asus in its place. Most likely everything else should just work, but ask here if you run into any issues.

    becasue if you had broadband with some other provider and just wanted Virgin for TV

    Ì know I know. I am just saying that the prevailing consensus on boards was the Virgin wasn't the best for TV and Sky was better. Not sure if that has changed with their new box. I'd be curious what price you can get for TV alone. I doubt it would be 20 p.m.

    I would say that the new Virgin 360 TV box is as good as Sky Q and in some ways maybe better.

    Of course that can come down to preference, familiarity, channel line-up, pricing, etc. but there isn't the large difference there was previously IMO.

    Currently on a 60mb package paying ridiculous money as a long-term customer (63 euro) and I see customers not even on an offer are getting 250mb for 60 eurp p/m. My line can currently handle 1gb, so i'm wondering if anyone has gotten upgraded to a higher speed without paying more than they currently are. It doesn't make sense that i'd have to pay more than what i'm currently paying anyway..

    If you are out of contract you should cancel. Before your 30 days are up, you will get a call from VM to offer you a better deal to stay.

    This is what I did, and I'm now paying €40 p/m for 9 months, then €80 for final 3 months of contract for 1gb.

    Assuming you're out of contract just go on the site and setup yourself as a new customer, when the new modem arrives and is up and running ring cancellations and request an immediate cessation of service telling them you're already sorted with an ISP.

    Change your name slightly, add in a middle initial etc try it, all it can do is reject you when you try to sign up. If you have a second bank account use that instead I don't think they accept Revolut iban's, they should do but they don't. No harm in giving it a lash I'm on a 12 month new customer deal atm and as soon as it finishes I'm going to be like the Phoenix rising from the ashes with a span' nu bank account and my confirmation name initial in my name😁

    All you have to do is ring cancellations, tell them you are getting an offer from another provider for half price for 6months on 500mb and you want to see what deals they have on offer. Don't settle for anything more than half price for 6 months. I do it every year and without fail get a good offer. Sometimes I have to decline as they are not giving me a good offer. I then ring later or next day, get a different agent and get the deal I want.

    Cheers. Ended up getting the line upgraded to 500mb and got a decent offer so paying less now for 10x the speed. Now to look into getting a new router, the hub 3.0 I have is grand, but the wifi isn't great speed wise unless in the same room as it.

    Ask them for the new modem tell them the one you have is on its last legs, I thought they gave out the new modem for the 500 connections, that's what they sent me as a "new" customer.

    Just rejoin as a new customer, you can do it online in a few minutes, I had the router the next day, plugged it in and away she went👍

    Hi lads I downgraded from 1Gb to 500Mb broadband and they sent me the white router. I'm finding it poor and they won't replace it. Is getting my own router still the best option here?

    God they're some skinflints, yea I think getting your own router is the only option. Did you find the 1gig service isn't as reliable as the 500? I'm getting occasional bouts of bad service on the 1gig, the 500 was rock solid.

    If i am on Virgin 360mb package, is there any point in upgrading to 500mb when i am averaging 30mbps - 50mbps on a ping test?

    I stream tv and work from home a vut but nothing too intensive, even though monthly use is around 600gb

    I wouldn't bother tbh. Realistically a steady reliable 100 meg would do most domestic customers, reliability is the most important thing to me.

    Are you speed testing on Wi-Fi? That could be why you're not getting the full speeds.

    If you can test it with a wired connection to your router, that would give you the most accurate result for speed on your connection. If that shows you are getting close to the 360Mbps, then you should consider investing in improving your Wi-Fi set-up.

    I upgraded to Virgin 500 from 250 a few months ago. I asked the rep if I would get the new black box with the upgrade and he said yes. The upgrade happened but it seems to have disimproved. It drops and stutters frequently, something which never happened with the lower speed. I was told when I upgraded that the boxes were out of stock and as soon as they came in it would be delivered. I waited two months and rang to enquire when they would be in stock and was told I didn't need one, that the old one was fine?

    Should I downgrade or should I insist on the new box that I was promised?

    Have existing Virgin Media customers had any joy in getting a broadband deal out of them that comes close to their new customer offers?

    Last year I got €10 off for 9 months.

    I still feel a bit robbed but can't pluck up the courage to move elsewhere and have technicians drilling holes in my walls ..

    Last few years I've gotten half price for 6 or 9 months.

    Just call and tell them you want to cancel, keep refusing their offers until you get one of the above.

    Agree a termination date and hang up.

    Before the termination date comes, they will contact you with a better offer. If all else fails, just call them and accept their best offer, you dont need to follow through with the cancellation. Easy peasy.

    I got the 1gig service from them and it's very unreliable, I got the new WiFi6 modem but it's definitely not as rock solid as the the 500 meg with the old modem was.

    That's crazy money to be paying for BB this day and age, just cancel and go as a new customer for 35 per month, that's what I intend doing when my contract is up.
