I upgraded to Virgin 500 from 250 a few months ago. I asked the rep if I would get the new black box with the upgrade and he said yes. The upgrade happened but it seems to have disimproved. It drops and stutters frequently, something which never happened with the lower speed. I was told when I upgraded that the boxes were out of stock and as soon as they came in it would be delivered. I waited two months and rang to enquire when they would be in stock and was told I didn't need one, that the old one was fine?

Should I downgrade or should I insist on the new box that I was promised?

Have existing Virgin Media customers had any joy in getting a broadband deal out of them that comes close to their new customer offers?

Last year I got €10 off for 9 months.

I still feel a bit robbed but can't pluck up the courage to move elsewhere and have technicians drilling holes in my walls ..

This is what I am on. Is better available if I speak to them?

    360MB BROADBAND (Active) €65.00

minus - €10.00 LOYALTY OFFER - 10 EURO OFF BROADBAND FOR 9 MONTHS

Last few years I've gotten half price for 6 or 9 months.

Just call and tell them you want to cancel, keep refusing their offers until you get one of the above.

Agree a termination date and hang up.

Before the termination date comes, they will contact you with a better offer. If all else fails, just call them and accept their best offer, you dont need to follow through with the cancellation. Easy peasy.

I got the 1gig service from them and it's very unreliable, I got the new WiFi6 modem but it's definitely not as rock solid as the the 500 meg with the old modem was.

That's crazy money to be paying for BB this day and age, just cancel and go as a new customer for 35 per month, that's what I intend doing when my contract is up.

Hi, not sure if this type of post is okay here, feel free to let me know if I should ask somewhere else.

I've recently upgraded to Virgin Fibre 500Gb. They installed the new line and connected it to a new (black) router that they installed just inside the front wall of the house…….i.e. there used to be an old cablelink style box on the interior wall in my front room. Previously, I had run a cox style cable from that box, along the skirting board, through a hole in the opposite wall, into the living room, which is where my old router was stationed so I could hardwire the important stuff directly to the router…..Xbox, IPTV etc. I had replaced the old VM router with that one in the link.

They left that old coax cable where it was and snipped it just below the box, which was replaced by a new box. The new router is connected to the new box by what looks like an optical cable that is barely 1.5m long. I'm looking to get as close to the old setup as I can get for minimal investment….i.e. using wired connection for two or three units but wifi for the rest. The issue is that I can't run more than 1 cable through the hole in the wall.

    1. It looks like the simplest solution would be to leave the new router where it is, run a cat6 cable along the skirting board (connecting both routers), and just use two routers. Are there any issues with this that I'm not seeing? I could even disable the wifi on the new one if it was causing issues?
    2. Another solution would be to get a pair of these things, and connect the routers that way. Would this work and why would it be better/worse than solution 1?
    3. Lastly, I'm not sure if there's a better way to do all of this that I'm not seeing.
      1. Can I get an extra long optical cable and just connect the old router to the new wall box?
      2. Would there be any issues with having two routers on the go, bar the wasted electricity?
      3. How else would I go about connecting to the new box on the wall if not via the optical connection (which I assume is the fibre itself)?
      4. Anything else that I'm not aware of that I should factor in?

    Thanks in advance, folks.

I'd leave the new router where it is, run a cat6 cable into where the original router is and replace it with a 1gig switch.
