'Anyone here complaining about restrictions and refusing to take the vaccine.... words fail.'

My impression is that posters here are more concerned about willful use of the QR-code vaccine passport, which is separable from taking a vaccine.

It isn't true that taking vaccines will speed an end to restrictions though. Two things I've learned in the last year: one is that most people are not numerate, and the other is that most people don't know how to negotiate.

You gain concessions by refusal not by jumping through hoops. Even just there recently Macron had to make concessions on France's vaccine passport he didn't want to make because the protests were fiercer than he expected.

The Irish people have no leverage because aren't prepared to say 'No' to anything. So all that's left is to hope that the Government and NPHET get tired of restrictions and eventually drop them.

Yeah, I have to reject the argument that somehow vaccine numbers will lead to us getting rid of all restrictions. Where is the evidence that this will happen? It is not in any government or NPHET press release. It seems to be implied somehow and perhaps makes sense but there is no specific plan from official sources that more vaccines mean an end to all restrictions. Especially when the government is FF and FG, I think it is safer to err on the side of caution and not trust them. As such, I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to vaccines ending the restrictions.

I've had two AZ vaccines. I don't know if I am going to be offered a booster of that. I'm not mixing vaccines. If they are not offering AZ as a booster I'm not getting any more.

What level of vaccinations will lead to all restrictions being lifted?

    80% of population?

100% of aged 18+ double dosed?

    100% triple dosed?

100% triple dosed including new Echo variant booster?

Whats the number, does anybody know? Or is it a state secret known only to the lord and master?

Based on the data of the last 2 months, we have more than sufficient numbers vaccinated, and have so for some time, to get rid of all restrictions. Hospital numbers totally manageable with deaths of course at 0 to 1 per day (in line with suicides and maybe double that of road deaths so perfectly within what is typically accepted as a reason not to impose severe economic and social restrictions on society). Even those who were categorically at little risk of getting a serious dose from covid have been vaccinated to alleviate their anxieties so we would appear to be fully in the clear.

Unfortunately the restrictions have never followed the data, nor even their own internal logic.

As I have said over the last year. Never, not once has the government promised a return to normal. It has never happened. They have said "some normality" but they have never said anything about no restrictions.

We've seen much lower Vaccine uptakes around the world. Viruses and variants will keep spreading. Tony and co will be "recommending" restrictions for years to come.

Unless there is some masterplan to start invading countries to jab people. Sounds bat **** crazy. Vaccine passports seemed batshit crazy last year. Will invading countries be bat **** crazy next year?

Personally can't see it happening, doesn't mean it shouldn't mind you. We've a long way to go to break down fear and paranoia that has built up in some people over the last 18 months. Its really time these people let others start living their lives again. If you don't want to go to 70k festival or whatever the scenario that they feel is unsafe is, don't go, but please don't stop others from going.

I’m still unwell a month from the 2nd jab, I’ve done my bit now and I won’t be taking any booster.

That's 2 months away ffs, at that stage it should be going ahead with zero restrictions or capacity limits.

Yeah just like Latitude 4 days after England's Freedom Day, was the very first camping music festival to kick off with 40,000 capacity. so far very little Covid cases have been reported by folk who attended the festival. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/jul/24/latitude-festival-2021-40000-party-people-good-vibes-and-not-a-mask-in-sight

I didn't realise the commute and being stuck inside were so popular

Not at all. Just pointing out yet another example of the baseless speculation here that is often applaud by some as fact.

To be perfectly honest I could not be bothered doing the maths and end up have to reply to endless speculation, so I`ll just go with the mechanics toolbox where it is always better to have a tool in the toolbox when needed than having to go looking.

This is simply not true. I remember writing to a number of local TD’s around the time of the gyms closing on the second or third lockdown (been so many now I can’t remember specifically.)

It completely landed on deaf ears and in most cases I never received a response - this was a collective effort from tens of thousands of people across the country.

Equally, business owners will not rock the boat. The reality of this situation varies massively to what you are actually suggesting

Far greater number of people wanted an mRNA vaccine in lieu of their second dose of AZ and will be more than happy to get one now

Well, they are unlikely to produce any instant declarations off the back of the fairly fantastic vaccination numbers. There are still a good few cases, even if they are resulting in fewer hospitalisations. It takes time to review data and publish a plan and they are being advised by an extremely conservative advisory body. It's not in the government's interest to continue with restrictions, especially as the bill heads towards €30bn. We may well have a low level of cases moving into the later part of the year but it is unlikely IMO to keep us under restrictions.

But, but, but the hurricane, what about the hurricane in term of cases, hospitalisations and deaths that coming?🌬️

Can you cite any source for this claim? It seems counter intuitive. The rate of variants should be related to the replication rate, the more a virus replicates, the greater chance for variants and vaccines would decrease replication, and therefore decrease variants.

At the end of the day, does this really matter, we are where we are...

If people en masse collectively boycott businesses or services enforcing dystopian QR code nonsense, then I assure you there will be a reaction.

You might have a point re: writing to TD's. So, don't write. Gather together instead, and go to the offices of these TD's, local councillors etc. Bring it to their doors. Demand to be seen and that they fight your cause. That's what they're there for, right? To represent the people. You're paying their wages.

    1) After 17 months of "working from home" I'll happily go back to the commute and office if only for my sanity.

    2) We don't have the weather in this country to be outdoors for approx 95% of the year.

    3) No way in hell should mask wearing ever become normalised, none of this is "normal".. Anthony clearly doesn't have a fvcking clue in his tiny head why "asian culture" wears masks - hint: it's nothing to do with preventing the spread of respiratory viruses.

What’s pissed off the most is, almost from the beginning I’ve expressed a lack of confidence in NPHET, they seem to be at odds with the rest of the EU on their decisions, but then claim ECDC data backs up their projections… so I ask “how” did NPHET come to different conclusions than the rest of Europe. I am instantly branded a conspiracy theorist / anti vaxxer. Nothing could be further from the truth. I just don’t have confidence in NPHETs competence. I think Tony has gone with his gut over science as he can’t trust the people with the honest facts and data. As for Philip Nolan, he’s messed up modelling completely, undermined public faith in antigen testing, his positions have no basis in science, he’s a danger to society, I’m not sure what is motivating him…

but hey I’m the pariah, I’m the one not pulling on the green jersey. At least I now know what Roy Keane was thinking in Saipan

I can’t help but think that what’s happening in this country at the moment is all our own fault. There is absolutely no accountability for anything anybody ever says or does. Look at the HSE, they have been a fcuking shambles since day one sleepwalking from one **** up to the next and the head of it all is paid 400,000 or more a year!!! The reason this is the case is because we allow it to be. We never DEMAND accountability from these people and so why should we ever get it? The Catholic Church ruled this country for decades and why? Because again WE LET THEM. Cute-hoorism and acceptance of mediocrity have been a part of Irish life for decades and the politicians know this. That’s why they know they can do anything they fcuking want to.

Nobody will ever question anyone on that “hurricane of cases” bullshit because well you know whatever sure be grand.

better than me - i wrote to my TDs (and MEPs once) a fair bit.

I got a heap of sh1te and waffle back the skirted but ultimately failed to answer my questions - with exception of Duncan Smith (Labour) and Claire Daly

to be fair Louise OReilly (SF) didn't waffle me cos she never replied - not once.
