AS I have said in my last post, FAIK, face masks are still mandatory in Californis for everyone, vaccinated or not on public transport, and for unvaccinated in public settings, (bars etc.), unlike Florida with no restrictions case numbers and deaths are much lower. Florida reaching an all time daily high for case numbers just last week. Do you not think that perhaps there is an obvious corellation there ?

Or indeed between Germany and France`s dropping of restrictions attempting to open up early with low vaccination numbers that resulted in curfews and "hand brakes" needing to be applied, when nationally, even now months after some states dropped all restrictions, just 50% are fully vaccinated ?

Well you need to check again. Face masks aren't mandatory in California, only a few counties there have made the move back to a mandate. For the state in general they are required for unvaccinated people but that isn't enforced

I've taken the vaccine on the basis of them working and protecting the vulnerable at large, if I find fook all change in this prison life way of living before year end I will not be letting any more of it in to my body and advise people around me to do the same.

This is definitely an example of how to misuse data to manipulate a picture. 8% of Israelis have had previous infection. 60% have been vaccinated. The vaccine is 90% effective against symptomatic disease, so 6% of vaccinated are vulnerable to symptomatic infection, not to mention many of those testing positive will have no symptoms. Of the 8% the overwhelming majority will also have been vaccinated as within Israel the populations least likely to be vaccinated are also those least likely to have been tested. We also have data showing that vaccination after previous infection provides the strongest immunity. So the proportion of these left vulnerable to infection will naturally be tiny compared to the vaccine only group.

Israels “problem” is 40% remain unvaccinated

If I were you I'd start getting ready. This farce ends when we want it to end, the governments have shown, in several occasion, that they have no intention of getting out of this "pandemic"

500 days to flatten the curve, and still no improvements in the health system, the makers of the magic cure, in the meantime, increased their prices by nearly 25% but they did for the safety of the human race

Except the new prices are actually lower that the originally negotiated prices in the 2nd procurement deal

This is ridiculous. A wedding of 100 doesn't put lives at risk but a communion celebration does?! I'm absolutely sick of this. When is anyone going to challenge our government on the over the top, scaremongering, cautious approach to living normally. Where is our opposition, lobby groups, alternative (to rte) media? Ciara Kelly is about the only person I have heard from in mainstream that will call this stuff out but we need more than her.

I often wonder about the original claims of 95% efficacy in preventing symptoms. Obviously this was based on the less transmissible strain of the virus pre variants etc but it was also derived during the summer months when transmission is at its lowest.

I hope I’m wrong but I’d be very surprised if we get anything close to 95% when you combine both delta and people moving indoors as we move into winter.

Every time i go for a road cycle I put my life at risk, its time the government banned all motor vehicles.

Trails were conducted last autumn and into winter. Initial rollouts were over winter and into spring. That’s where 95% comes from. With delta it’s still holding at 95% plus against severe disease, even if it’s closer to 90% with prevention of any symptoms. In all probability down to the increased infectiousness of delta giving a more accurate picture of the true effectiveness rather than actual increased breakthroughs

Ah ok, for some reason I thought the Pfizer trial was from July to September 2020.

That’s when they enrolled subjects and vaccinated. Pfizer reached primary endpoints in November I believe but they also continued and continue to monitor the subjects

This is the most depressing aspect of all this, countries close to full vaccination and still restrictions, it shows us what is coming.

Even the UK - its a joke, from EU even if you are vaccinated you need a pcr and another one on day 2 of your trip, if you are from France apparently you still even need to quarantine - when fully vaccinated.

Sad fact is we've all been sold a big lie and maybe you can enjoy a few pints now but just wait till October/November..

True and I wasn't being serious. But my point is, we accept risk everyday without realising it. We have to, or more so the government have to start accepting there is risk of covid infection. Even with a hypothetical 100% vaccination rate there will still be risk. With 70% of adult population (and more so, the vulnerable) fully covered we really need to start moving on.

Haha I know, I was cracking a joke at the banning cars comment because the irony is we currently have minister for transport who’d love that lol.

I couldn’t agree with you more on the basis of risk mitigation and our acceptance in daily life.

I was out the Weekend outdoor seating I used, pubs are lifeless and depressing. It will be a long time before things go back to December 2019 normal. Double vaccinated and starting to feel like it's a waste of time. I probably won't take a booster

As a teacher of the communion class I assume I won't have to go back to work in 4 weeks due to the risk I'll be taking by being in close proximity to such a deadly virus and its carriers. What a load of BS?! My class made their communion at the beginning of July and all was fine.

In relation to pubs being dead at the moment. Before covid we wouldn't have been out much (age related) but I won't lie I'm not overly interested in going out and paying 5e for a beer when I can get 20 of them for 18e in my local supermarket. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this. Used to love going out for a few drinks and listening to a band but that's not allowed now so wouldn't have a huge interest at this point in time

This seems to be one of the biggest lies of the pandemic, that we need these passports to encourage vaccinations. We had one of the highest uptakes in the world before there was even a mention of vaccine passports.

Its poor justification for the policy and people are lapping it up..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,927 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Scaremongering? More like revenue generating, this government has consistently put the pubs reopening ahead of kids... The only people dishing out the fear in this country are the VFI and their target is Leinster house

the state is threatening the church

this would be considered outrageous a couple of years ago but now it seems to be going unnoticed

take a step back and look at what’s happening

people seem to be asleep or have they just given up?

I not the greatest catholic in the world and the past scandals of the church deserves criticism but the priests and bishops need to stand up to the government/nphet now.

but once again tru this whole thing the plain contradictions that are in plain sight of people goes unchallenged due to the brainwashing of the public by rte and the rest of the media.

was out last nite and won’t be returning in a rush if that’s the future.sad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,132 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

It's not actually a lie. Some countries have adopted the approach as a means to "encouraging" vaccinations. Ours is to allow some some parts of hospitality to open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭Multipass

Not only does it achieve nothing, it has resulted in my nearest city stinking of piss. Every street, the whole place stinks, even masks don’t help 😂

The sooner people have access to pubs and their toilets the better.

The official reason for barring unvaccinated people from hospitality in this country is to prevent their hospitalisation since they haven't had the immune-system-boosting vaccines.

That can't be reconciled with the folk belief that seems to have sprung up that vaccinated people are being protected from the presence of the unvaccinated. That is mad, but it seems to have gained a lot of currency.
