Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tyres being one step softer could maybe lead to a two-stopper? We saw the Mercs suffering with deg on the hards last time out, and also saw with Perez that the two-stop wasn't far off in time.

If Gasly and Leclerc can survive lap 1, it should make the race for best-of-the-rest more interesting too.

The C4 didn't last long last week as the soft tyre, so I don't think the C5 will be any use for more than one really slow out lap, and one flying lap. Expect Q3 to be like the farce in Italy a couple of years ago!

    aaaaaaaand Mercedes brought an update

"Mercedes appears to have introduced a new rear brake drum design with a looped section displaced from the main body of the drum in the upper half. This should help manage the tire temperatures differently on the shoulder."

Williams have two different front wings:

This was a bit of a strange one. Toto said they wont be making any new upgrades and the technical director said they have some upgrades coming. I'd say the cause of the misunderstanding is probably that they have some upgrades in train and they will be completed, but they won't be developing any new upgrades from this point onwards and all new development will be focused on next year's car.

Hard to see anything other than a clone of last weeks race unless it rains or a Honda engine or two explode, how Hamilton must be ruing he Baku cock up!

If the current progress continues yeah he will regret Baku , but it is too soon , he has been further behind before at this point

    2014: 29 pts (to Rosberg)
    2015: Always led
    2016: 43 pts (Rosberg, lost by 5)
    2017: 25 pts (Vettel)
    2018: 17 pts (Vettel)
    2019: 8 pts (Bottas)
    2020: 13 pts (Bottas)
    2021: Currently 18 down (Verstappen)

There are a few young drivers taking part in FP1:
Guanyu Zhou is in Alonso's Alpine,
Roy Nissany is in Russel's Williams and
Callum Ilott is in Giovinazzi's Alfa.

And they're using a mystery test tyre in FP1 too.

What do those numbers mean? Quick look and 2019 Hamilton led from race 5 til the end, 2020 he led from race 3 til the end.

Bit of rain for the last 15-20 in fp2 probably skewing a few times there

Looks like a closer race on paper. Colder and softer tires have changed things up. Hamilton convinced RB have some left in their pocket.

What we're conditions like in that session, any rain? Big gap from max to the Mercedes but I see they were running the test tyres. And Giovanazzi in fifth suggests the session isn't indicative of much.

Whatever happens, I hope its better than last weeks borefest. At least let us have a good battle for the win.

Norris up to second and alonso in third.

The two haas, the non Russell Williams, ocon , and Kimi are out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,029 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

    Poor form from Ocon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

    Giovinazzi P7
    Raikkonen P16

Only 2 tenths of a second time difference between them, crazy how close the field is around here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,185 ✭✭✭McFly85

Ocon struggling again. I’m surprised Alpine gave such a long contract to such an inconsistent and limited driver.
