Has there been any word lately from Niac on a decision on vaccination of kids Aged 12-15 as approved by EMA ?

With all this talk now of restricting indoor dining to people who are fully vaccinated with obviously the potential to extend that to other activities once operational, I am wondering where Ireland is on this.

Its so long down the tracks before we'll have vaccines for that age group - unless they specifically allow it for the equivalent of Group 4 for them - that it won't come up for discussion for a while.

Any update on the rollout of vaccines to under-40s in pharmacies?

When do pharmacies expect to be given the green light to proceed?

How many people who booked with Boots had their appointments cancelled?

Cancelled on my end, though another pharmacy came back to my expression of interest email and added to a list. They said as soon as they are given the go ahead, they'll be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Romania selling 1 million Pfizer doses to Denmark at acquisition price as they are getting close to expiry date.
Did Ireland look to buy any of these?

I wonder if Bulgaria has vaccines for sale due to their low vaccine rate?

I’m assuming that there’s no issue with second doses of Pfizer for those of us who’ve already had a 1st dose. Just reading this thread it’s looking like the stocks are running out.

35 in Dublin registered on the 20th, should I be concerned I've heard nothing since? Seems like some people are getting appointments confirmed

Helix are ahead of the other Dublin centres and they're down to 37 year olds. I don't think any 35 year olds in Dublin have appointments yet.

Any confirmation when a decision will be made on giving J&J to under 50s?

I'd rather wait for that if I knew it be soon but I've an appointment for Pfizer tomorrow.

Yes, it was authorised last night. Unclear yet though how it will be implemented and integrated into the system. Your main problem here would be that you can't pick the vaccine you are given.

Are you planning travelling anywhere in the next 4 weeks , because if not just take the appointment tomorrow and the 2nd dose in 4 weeks would be most peoples advise. The supply/demand situation with J&J in the pharmacies is not very clear at the min.

Presumably you can if you're booking a vaccine through a pharmacy.

Eamon Ryan confirmed last night that AZ and J&J would be opt-in.

Yes, that's right but they haven't specified how it will work exactly.

'Opt in' probably just means that 20+ will register on the online portal and if they are offered AZ or J & J by text notification, they accept that and go for their appointment.

This is a quote from Premier Holohan from his letter last night to Minister for Health.

"In that context, the NIAC have recommended that those
aged 18-49 years who wish to opt for earlier vaccination can be offered an adenoviral vector vaccine
    subject to informed consent."

So now the HSE will need to put together protocol for someone to give consent, will take weeks for this I would imagine.

Some in their early 40ies were waiting 3+ weeks (South Dublin). For us in the 35-39 age bracket it might not be all that much quicker.

Huge demand if this is authorised soon formally. All pharmacies participating only got 50 doses and some have been used. At a guess I'd say 35,000 units in pharmacies waiting to be used with an additional 100,000 ready to be sent out. Haven't seen J&J deliveries as I stopped looking when I thought they were no longer relevant

I don't see why, it's a standard procedure in medicine. The vaccinator explains the risks and gives the person a form to read and sign. I don't think it needs to take weeks to come up with a protocol around it.

Implementation is the trickier part if they want to use the MVCs for this, but the simplest way to handle it is to just give all additional AZ and J&J stock to pharmacies.

Why do they care if there is 2 million cases a day if we are all vaccinated and immune from severe illness?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,065 ✭✭✭funnydoggy

We could end up in a horror scenario like the UK yesterday where there were over 20,000 cases and 3 deaths. Adjusting for population, that leaves us facing the terrifying prospect of 0 deaths here.

A pharmacy I emailed last night let me know they're hoping guidelines could be in place as early as today. I don't blame you at all for being sceptical but hopefully they're right.

I hope Im wrong also, but the way that NIAC NPHET and Govt have been carrying on, I would think that the Govt will have to confer with the Attorney general on this, as they do on all matters that they want to wash their hands of. Hence could take weeks to have a procedure in place.

I hope Im wrong, but the **** show continues and its getting ****ier.

I think the best argument that could be made is that with such a significant number of cases, the liklihood of a worse mutation may be higher?

    I'm guessing as I don't know frankly

They're like the 2nd worst performing in Europe in terms of vaccination rollout and 1mill vaccines are expiring on them? Mad.. They should be pressurized by the EU to do more to convince their ppl as they're clearly not doing much about it. Puts us all in risk in the long term.

I can't find the little card they gave me on the first jab anywhere, I've turned the house upside down looking.

Is it absolutely necessary or will they give me the 2nd shot with photo ID?

Exactly. The reason we have Delta now is that humanity left a huge sandbox for the virus to experiment and improve. 1.5+ years in we're still not finished with depriving the virus of its enormous playfield.

I think a lot of it comes down to public trust in government. The lower the level of trust, the lower the trust in public vaccination programmes. It could be due to bad recent history or because of lack of transparency. Then you’d use of non EMA approved vaccines in a rush towards Russian and Chinese products, in countries that are now showing some of the worst uptake.

It says everything about public trust.

If we have 2 million cases when everyone is vaccinated something will have gone wrong as they reduce transmission and viral load shed.

I'm 31 and would accept the J&J one shot but obviously can't

I can see a lot of people in their 20s early 30s looking for J&J. 2 weeks later they can fly without pcr tests.

29 here, I'd take absolutely anything. The vaccines we have are all staggeringly effective. The one shot is a bit of a dream alright though lol :)
