You seem to have created an illness which you call "long covid" which does not seem to exist or Tony Holohan would be concerned about it.

Yes it's all in my head. There are only 333 articles on pubmed if you search for 'long covid' but lets wait for Tony to bring it up at lunch.

Hang on.. Where are these new rules??

    Social distancing.

Matt Hancock lost his job because he embraced and kissed a woman in private and was caught.

Perhaps the adultery scandal is part of the reason he resigned but the newspapers emphasise that he 'broke the rules' [against social distancing]

It's not bull****. N95 or similar will protect the wearer and others. Fact. How is that anti mask?

Please point to a study that shows a flimsy price of fabric or paper protects against an airborne disease. Would you wear a blue surgical mask in a room full of smallpox and expect it to protect you? It won't. And that's a bigger or similar particle size compared to covid.

Hahaha! There are many in the current UK administration that should have resigned long ago. Matt Hancock resigned due to public pressure. Downing Street said the day before that the matter was closed.

Based on what though, we have already done the cautious delay, we are already last to reopen. Our hospitals are empty, vulnerable are vaccinated, anyone with 1 shot of AZ is 80% protected. Are the rest of Europe monsters that don't care about the health of their citizens. Why leave ut a few more weeks, let's leave it a few more months if we are going be cautious.

First hospitals are not empty. Dropped someone off to A&E during the week and the hospital extremely busy with patients, emergencies and clinics.

As to your one shot AZ 80% figure. You may wish to revisit that.
The UK government has been urged to speed up giving two doses of the covid-19 vaccine after data showed a single dose was only 33% effective against the B.1.617.2 variant first detected in India, which continues to see a rapid growth in cases in the UK.

A few qoutes from MM today:

The mantra is "anything we open, we keep open".

“However, reports that he is veering towards a cautious approach to reopening are "not entirely correct" the Taoiseach said.”

“The risk is different now to what it was at Christmas because 2.5 million people have been vaccinated and close to overall four million doses administered, the Taoiseach said.”

“Mr Martin said whether AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccine surpluses can be used for younger people will be a factor that influences the Government's decision to reopen hospitality.”

    And regarding travelling internationally:

“The Taoiseach said that international travel should resume from 19 July as Ireland enters the EU Digital Covid Certificate system.”

He said: "We have given a commitment in relation to the 19th, so I think we will continue to operate the Digital Certificate."

It is 'against the rules' to kiss/embrace/have sex with new people for going on 2 years.

Do you expect all people to follow these rules or not? Do you consider people who don't follow these rules to be failing in their civic duty?

    Here's what I think:

Everyone knows that these rules aren't going to be followed and can't be but some will pretend or talk like they expect them to be followed and this is (intellectual) laziness and dishonesty.

If taken seriously these rules redefine fundamental aspects of life as quasi-criminal.

However the best thing to do would be admit that, tell the truth basically, and stop pretending that social distancing is in force or should be.

    Thanks folks.

Would be great to see us proceeding as planned with the bonus of AZ/JJ vaccines offered to those that want them.

Maybe it’s not a done deal yet!

I think/hope the govt leaked early to gauge public opinion. And it’s not in their favour now.
Still think it will be delayed . But then it will have to open no matter what

Interestingly. Not a single cluster or even a case in a hotel from indoor dining ? With people coming from far and wide ......

That all sounds positive, hopefully that remains the case.

Can’t imagine there would be any reasons we couldn’t use the surplus vaccines surely? Makes sense.

Well if travel is a donedeal for the 19th then keeping hospitality closed is pointless.

Nothing is a done deal, the situation changes weekly but sometimes daily and even hourly.

If they are saying on July 18th that travel will go ahead on July 19th then it will probably go ahead.

Tiny risk but I think people should still be given the option on an informed consent basis.

I watched his interview with RTE and found it actually quite good, he recognised the pubs/restaurants were struggling and said we’re not in the same position as we were in December. I reckon there’s still a chance they open.

I am now beginning to believe it was kite flying early to see if they had public support for a delay
    They now know they don’t
