Surprised "G" hasn't the same recognition now to be honest. But I guess peak UK Cycling Experts was around the London Olympics.

Massive in Wales I'm sure but Cavendish was the first of the breakthrough Froome was a perennial winner and Wiggins the working class hometown boy in London.

Given how much big countries like England win things cycling is still way down the casual sports fans list compared to Ireland. Very similar in one sense though and thats that monuments mean nothing

Bora's golden child throws his toys out of the pram after failing to make the tour team.
You'd imagine if Sam goes back to Bora, surely Ackermann would still be No2.

He's been poor this year, finishing well back on several occasions. His thing about numbers in this article just doesn't stack up from the outside and in a way is irrelevant in the absence of good results.

Sagan going has gone very quiet hasn't it? Haven't heard any rumours for a while anyway.

That entourage of his is a big ask for a rider who isn't the sure bet he used to be

He's rumoured to be going to UAE next year but either way I think he's leaving Bora so Sam probably won't be riding on the same team as him.

Just catching up on the Adriatica Ionica race while waiting for a meeting to start. Great win for Fortunato in the end but what the hell was Kudos at? Dragged a group back after a crash up hill then attacked his team mate in the closing stages of the climb and ended up being passed by Fortunato close to the line.

Young Pronskiy giving the universal what the f are you at gesture a couple of times.

Dan Martin confirmed for the Tour

The team say he has a ‘free role’ and that he’ll be supported for the first two stages

He has a good win under his belt on the Mur de Bretagne in 2018 which is on stage 2 this year. This years stage travels a decent amount along the coast before turning south inland.

Had a look at the odds for the tour there, some crazy stuff going on -

Mark Padun is 7th favourite, ahead of Lopez, Mas, Kruijswijk etc. His de facto leader at Bahrain (Poels) is 250/1
Pog & Rog pretty unbackable. Carapaz is the value bet in there.
There is more money on Froome to win than Pog through Oddschecker.

They'll be doing two ascents of the Mur this year.

It's a weird climb. Very long sightlines and a false flat towards the end. The 10% section doesn't really look that bad until you're actually on it and you suddenly realise you've blown your own lights out.

Has he a chance on the first stage? 1.2km uphill finish.

Would love Dan to target KOM jersey !

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭GetWithIt

I remember about 10 years ago he identified it as a target. I think the years following didn't suit him as there were a number of stages which had HC finishes where they doubled the points on offer, effectively making the winner of those stages the winner of the KOM, and those stages ended up being GC shootouts.

Dan should defer to his road captain as to what to do :D

Yves Lampert heading home after winning the ITT at the nationals. It's gas you expect a pro to be on his road/tt bike all the times. Right tools for the job!!!!

ASO fecked up the KOM with that change. At least some interest in it being targeted by the breakaways, as opposed to it being won incidentally by a GC contender. But that probably favours Dan somewhat, if he targets it, given he's able to climb with the GC racers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,769 ✭✭✭Mefistofelino

For the first two stages, there are around 11 KOM points available on each. (Pogacar won the KOM last year with 82 points, so 22 points on the first two days is not insignificant). Given that stage 3 starts in Lorient, about 10km from his home town, I think that Barguil will push hard on the first two days to make the breaks and try and wear the jersey for Stage 3

There's no real scope to make any further inroads to the KOM until Stage 8, which will be a big GC day anyway.

It's probably expected though since the majority of people tweeting are British, the story is about a British rider, and the tweet is from a British website?

The same reason that there is more money on Froome than Pogacar on Oddschecker to win the Tour - taking back control, innit.

    https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ineos-grenadiers-reveal-powerful-tour-de-france-line-up-but-avoid-nominating-team-leaders

Ineos name their team for the tour. No Eddie as expected, Rohan Dennis doesn't make it either, Dylan Van Baarle in instead.

No designated leader named, instead they have 4 protected risders. Trying to outdo Movistar no doubt...

Rohan Dennis has been linked to a move to Jumbo Visma this week.

Looks like a team that will let others do the work & see how things go with the protected riders.

With Adam Yates, Bernal, Dennis, Ganna, Dani Martinez, Moscon, Narvaez and Pidcock, Ineos could possibly have a stronger team not going to the tour than the have going.

Whilst Sosa, Sivakov, Heano, Dunbar, De Plus, Amador probabaly would make almost any other squad outside of Ineos A & B team!

Although the way Rohan Dennis has been riding lately, it seems crazy not to bring him.
