Haven't been on these threads that much the last week so maybe it's been covered already, but what exactly are the point of the trial events they are running at the moment? Specifically the concert in Iveagh Gardens last week has me baffled.

There were no tests before or after the concert, people were socially distant in pods of up to 4 i think, no alcohol was being served and people were asked to wear masks. What exactly do they plan on finding out from this? There have probably been more people in the Iveagh Gardens every other night of the week than there was for the concert.

There will be a few bots on to accuse you of getting upset shortly.

I think the perspective of UEFA was put into plain sight Saturday evening

What the hell has that got to do with having crowds at games.

UEFA priority is the precious tournament above all else. And we are supposed to be sorry for having other priorities

Yeah, UEFA caused that poor chap to have a heart attack. Christ almighty and you've the neck to criticize others for spouting nonsense.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

We are the only country to say no, why would UEFA give a **** about us. The only country, you not think that's odd.

Other priorities like having a government PR event in the iveagh gardens....just another example of how useless they are.

Don't see them all dropping in the streets in all the other nations hosting the euros.

    It's a total embarrassment..end of

According to a few here regarding the euros

    1. It's not worth hosting
    2. Uefa are the problem

We are being embarrassed every single time a Euro 2020 game is on.

Same virus. 20k fans in Seville.

But Ireland has the best medics on Earth clearly.

So you go around looking at other counties whose Covid restrictions you don't agree with and feel embarrassed on their behalf. Fair enough, it's fine to say we should've been hosting these games and to query our approach. But seriously, embarrassed? No other country in Europe gives a flying banana what we're doing here.

An absolute joke Dublin isn't hosting a game.

I don't care what other countries think of Ireland. I care about what I think of Ireland. I'm embarrassed.

We're normally embarrassed every time we take to the field. But hey, Covid anger!

The fans in Poland, watching their team score an og and have a player sent off before losing to their next door neighbors.

"Scarlet for Dublin not hosting this game".....

    I'm leaning towards no.

Love the blind defense of Ireland being the only country to pull the plug on the games. Clearly every other country is wrong and we are right.

I've no idea...just like I've no idea why they think the health system is at risk during the summer months.

We had variants all last summer and I'll bet no one could name one, let alone it's code number or R number or whatever other data points being used to pump fear into people.

It's funny, this is the second variant we are being told to be fearful of since last February...nothing came of the last one, nothing will come of this one! Our health system will be able to cope just fine with the inevitable clusters and small numbers....just like last summer.

It's like a hamster wheel of fear and hysteria, it never seems to end.

Is it? The first was the UK variant and arrived here at the end of 2020 and afterwards caused a big rise in cases and hospitalisations in Jan / Feb and is now the most prevalent strain here.

What was the second in February?

Regarding variants of concern - there's only been a small number of variants which have been identified as being worthy of note since the start of the Pandemic.

No one really gives a flying fúck mate.

You would have been watching it on telly anyway, you can pretend it's on here if it makes you feel better.

Funny, not something I lie awake at night worrying about.

On the other hand it's somewhat reassuring to discover our pandemic response isn't influenced by a sporting body.

It was the first of a series of events which will be scaled up according to the reports. Also that they plan to look a range of factors including audience movement, interaction, duration, crowd control etc.

The UK had a similar sized park gig back in April with about 5000 people which when relative to their population size is actually an incredibly small event.

Warning! For those who may not understand- the last is a simple observation. Nothing else is implied or stated.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. 5000 people in the one place is still 5000 people in the one place, irregardless of whether it's in Mexico City or the back arse of Inner Mongolia.

Population size is utterly irrelevant to the size a test gig should be, and I really shouldn't have to point that out.

What has population got to do with the size of crowds you have at events?

How is 500 people at an event similar to 5000 because they have a bigger population? Surely the actual capacity of the venue is more apt?

An unpleasant, patronising and out of touch response.

You and your fellow travellers are at least consistent.

So Barcelona had 5000 people indoors on March 27th with no social distancing.

On the 10th of June we had 500 outdoors in pods of 4.

Every other country went ahead with hosting their Euro games with fans present.

Tony Holohan claims our plan is "ambitious"

Does anybody genuinely agree with Holohan?

Jesus talk about cherrypicking your facts.

We only had a lockdown for 2 months before and 4 months after the date you chosen where we had a very, very brief opening.

I can't believe people are calling the British approach a failure, even with their delay they're miles ahead of us in opening. I'd certainly rather be there than here.

I was responding to a claim that we would be in a full level 5 lockdown this Christmas so I don't cherry pick anything. I contrasted where we were last year Vs where we, hopefully will be this year.

And I never called the British approach a failure. Perhaps you confused me with an other poster?

Well your comment is frankly the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. But hey get upset over a simple an observation that the gig was very small relative to their population. And as is being planned here - it was one event of several events which started small and were scaled up.

    Sorry that upset you.

Jeez more idiotic comments lol .

Who the fuq said it was relevant to "the size of test gig"??? And to quote I really shouldn't have to point that out!

But hey take it out of context and run away and screaming and hyperventilating whilst you're at it

Question for ya - You all do know (as pointed out btw) - its only one of several gigs which are going to be scaled up? Or shall we go do the hysterics again?

No one is upset except yourself.

Just a lot of people pointed out that your observation that 5000 is very small relative to 67,000,000 was...well...you can read their posts yourself.

Edit - I see you're ticking them off now while giving out about point scoring or something. Again, no one other than you is upset.
