Not sure if memt but the decision today to continue using the convention centre for Dail business until autumn is extraordinary. Apparently it would seem it would be and I quote, an unacceptable risk to return to the Dail full time.

Hearing this I wondered, it's fine for retail staff to return to cramped shops, fine for customers to go into Hair Salons, Fine for shopping centres to open etc but not the Dail where at best half its occupants turn up and most of them for a nap.

The hypocrisy is breath taking and hardly sending a message of confidence to the electorate.

A complete Joke, €25k a day and yet cut supports, go figure

On reflection of the last year+, how have the powers that be managed to get away with turning society and the economy upside down? Its incredible how fear, panic and propaganda can warp people's minds.

They're not letting go of Covid anytime soon.

Some people here have it right. How many of those uk cases are serious?

Seriousness of cases not the point, to state the pandemic is practically beaten is just beyond absurd. Besides 9 out of 10 might not be serious, what the one that might end up in ICU.

    7 deaths (with Covid).
For comparison there's around 450 heart disease deaths every day in the uk.

True and hopefully it's the end of Covid but you're trying to downplay the seriousness that was Covid. Heart disease isnt an infectious disease. Heart disease have proven therapeutics to treat it. Heart disease doesnt cause hospital wards to fill overnight like Covid caused in January.

Can the dail meet effectively in the convention centre? Can food be distributed to the population without supermarket staff?

Effectively? a little bit of a stretch when referring to the Dail, your clearly missing the point, what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander when it comes to politicians.

Are you saying I'm not so bright? You seem to implying that because I used that phrase and those that use it dont understand it. But you've said nothing to disclaim it, only to discuss possible reasons for seasonality.

The phrase "correlation is not causation" is not the argument winner you think it is. I never suggested a cause in my original post, yet you popped in again with that "winning statement", as if it proves something. When we say that a virus is seasonal that's a correlation.
You've ignored mitigating factors like social distancing, mass lockdowns (the largest in history), vaccine roll out (the largest in history) etc. These are independent of seasonality.

I didn't even mention last year at all. I was talking about viruses in general. However let's deal with it.
It could be seasonal but I'm going to wait until the WHO confirm it is, not some randomer on boards. Flu is well established as a seasonal virus as it's been studied decades and hasnt had to contend with lockdowns. Measles is also a highly infectious illness, spread by respiratory drops......that's not seasonal.

The WHO change their opinion every two weeks. There's a clear seasonality to this virus. Last summer Ireland left lockdown in early to mid May and cases dropped through to June. In winter we opened up into Christmas and cases increased to 8000 by Jan 08.

So let’s have one job that can be complete with low risk actually be completed with higher risk because other essential jobs cannot be done with low risk. Do some people actually listen to themselves sometimes?

Uk winter this June is particularly severe. Not to mention case in Ireland grew from July to October last year at a virtually constant rate

Ha ha, you haven't even landed a punch with any of your counter arguments. You have literally posted end product figures and your own interpretation of them. And you're the one implying I think I'm smarter than I actually am. You say theres a clear seasonality to the virus but no proof to back it up apart from your own interpretation of the figure. Yeah, I think I might still stick to the WHO with their epidemiologists, virologists, infectious disease consultants and all.....

Also, seasonal viruses dont tend to spike in April or October in the NH which they did here. I can show you flu cases to back that up, you might know where to find that.

That outdoor test event in Iveagh Gardens tonight is peak “covid theatre”.

Just such a nonsensical waste of time.

Watching prime time on +1 here. Absolutely ridiculous and pointless setup (especially when they had a bit of footage from the UK concerts)

Everyone fenced in and sitting quietly on their X.. No real atmosphere at all by the looks of it.

What's the point? As usual we've taken a UK example and given it enough of an Irish twist that it defeats the purpose

Or do some people actually read posts they are responding too??

Utter farce of an event, pointless and meaningless and I actually never heard of the performer.but what a funny double barrelled name :)

I think it was pretty clear you believe because sone jobs can’t be completed with certain restrictions, jobs that can be completed with restrictions should not because blah!

Catherine Martin is some spoofer and shouting over the questions doesn't change that. Typical Green - pushing a nonsense idea that doesn't do well in the real world.

In this country absolutely. Small groups confined to a square and separated by ropes - yay!

Meanwhile across the water they're having big crowds indoors (eg: the darts last week), no masks in sight, and yet no drama.

Forget the Indian variant. We're clearly dealing with a Paddy variant

Do people watch prime time with the express purpose of working themselves into a frothing rage? This could equally apply pre pandemic as very little worthwhile has appeared on that show in the past 20 years

No rage at all buddy. Just typical Irish incompetence on display yet again.

Who says he/she wasn't referring to that?

You're assuming said poster is in a "frothing rage" with a tv show because of the pandemic, when a quick search of "Prime Time" and "Miriam O'Callaghan" on this very website, will tell you the majority thought it was a waste of time, pre pandemic and pre bird flu.

Just because you disagree with said poster over things in regards the handling of this virus, doesn't mean you have to take every opportunity to swing at them. I've copped this from a lot of posters, on both sides

    It's OK. I don't take it personally.

When they can't respond to points raised, the go-to is to try and be funny, respond to something that wasn't said, or maybe quote one line and ignore the rest of the post.

It's obvious and it does nothing for whatever point they're trying to make

And yet tonight they apparently scrapped the antigen testing idea at the 11th hour at an event that would have been a perfect use case for it.

As I said, incompetent and backwards. Ireland in a nutshell most of the time

    Because "Paddys" are thick Kaiser?

We need to follow others lock stock and barrel because we're incapable of coming up with solutions to our particular situations?

Maybe we should just rejoin the Union. Obviously as a nation we're a failure - and we don't have a clue about the Pandemic. "incompetent and backwards"...

I'm not sure of the need for the test events like the one in on the nine news just now. People standing outside in segregated areas outside- for weeks now we've had crowds thronged uncontrolled into street like the scenes in Dublin and Salthill amongst others. There have been no spikes related to these uncontrolled events so we the need for controlled ones? It's clear outside events are safe.

They are pretending there isn't a world outside Ireland. They have done test events all over Europe. There was no need for test events.

That test pilot was such a waste of time, I couldn't believe that's what they went for after all the hyping up of it they did the last few weeks. Like what is supposed to be tested here? There's more people in a Penny's store at any one time than was at that concert.

Is this how they expect concerts to be for the whole summer. Organisers won't make any money doing this, I'd say a load more money was spent on this than ticket sales. I'm sure the government officials will be in the radio stations in the morning saying how great a success it was.

Yes, can't see much point in it apart from virtue signalling at this stage.
