Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Have you got it working?

my tiviar stopped working two days ago.
Loaded new skin. Didn't like it so pressed blue button to restore settings, and it has been trying to boot up since.
Have turned it off for a few hours, and turned it on again, but still nothing.

I am gutted to say the least, as I did love this box

Remove the plugin or skin by ssh and reboot. Failing that reflash image manually

People do as people do trying new skins and other things , sometimes if you can log into webif you can change your settings and box reboots back to normal.

This could be old news to some but I never considered it. The unit is fairly wide. About 10mm too wide to fit inside one of the IKEA Kallax cubes that are often used for entertainment units... as I found out today when mine arrived. My own fault for not checking the dimensions, I just never thought it would be too big. managed to find a place for it where the cables still reached. Otherwise this looks a nice upgrade from my previous Ferguson Ariva. The skin it came with is the sky-like one and it’s pretty intuitive if you have ever used sky.

hi all , bit of a problem with my setup , seem to have lost bbc1, bbc2, itv, quest and Smithsonian (all HD ) bbc4 is ok as are some other channels , have checked the signal quality and strength , both reading in 90s , tried rescanning but no channels found . 10847 V 23000 3/4 (for bbc)

would it be a case of lnb kaput ? or something else .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,475 ✭✭✭greasepalm

How many channels do you get on a full scan thinking like 900+
Loads of channel movement but none are yours.

    https://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php

Go into the signal finder and see if you get a signal on your mentioned tuner settings

reluctant to do a full scan as i didn't want to have to reorder channels . kos says these channels haven't moved since 2018

Can you check box elsewhere to see if it works there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭John mac

yea, no signal on DVBS2 , there is a good signal for dvbs .
no way of moving box elsewhere ,

    Hi all,

looking for some help with my box. I ran a full scan earlier as some of the ITV +1 channels had gone missing but now some of the Saorview channels are missing?
RTE1 and +1 being the main ones

You might need to tune tuner C manually. It may have only tuned one MUX. It happened me before and it only tuned Ch 53. I tined in Ch 57 myself. (Truskmore)

You should be able to find your local transmitter here.

That link is from 2013, look for the 2019/2020 updated version.

As in I don't think they built a load of new transmitters but the frequencies changed.

Hi looking for some help again please. I'd lost some channels on my tiviar, so I did a rescan, and went to ip address to update epg. Since then when I boot up box, picture is stuck on openvix page, I see all the channels loading on the front of the box, but it stops with SSU showing? Any ideas what I've done please? Tia

I don't use OpenVix, so can only give some general advice.

It looks like your image got corrupted. If you have a backup, try restoring from that. If not, you can download a new image, but you are likely to lose your settings.

Hi I have lost ITV4 ( Open ATV 6.0 ) ( Blue HD) . I know nothing about finding my way around Tiviar Alpha Plus . The set came pre programmed . ITV4 and ITV4 +1 are blank black screens when I click on them , I lost ITV4 very recently. I need it for Moto GP replay race tonight. Can anybody help me ? ( the instructions would have to be simple for me to follow them correctly ) Hope Someone out there can help !!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,475 ✭✭✭greasepalm

2 things as your on a very old image 6.0 is ancient and now is 6.4.

The reason why you lose channels is because they have moved to another location and a rescan should find them again ,
this link shows the new data of channels of tps and frequencies.

    https://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php

Rechecked those channels over there and they have not moved for years but maybe your box was set up on an alternative working one?

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭Dutch Roll

The exact method depends on your set-up, but when you've selected the blank ITV4 channel, open your channel list and then hit "All" (maybe on one of the red, yellow, blue or green buttons). This should open the entire list of 900 channels or so, where you should find other versions of ITV4 tuned in, and you can check if they're working. Same goes for any other channel that is blank. I've had to do this a few times before.

If this works you can then add that version of ITV4 or whatever to your bouquet. This process is a little more complicated.

I've done this with OpenATV6.1 - not sure about earlier version.

yes its the red button and I looked at them all and thanks for reply , how do I add to bouquet and rescan?

Ok and did you find an ITV4 that works?

I think its Menu button > add service to bouquet > then choose which bouquet

A re-scan is simple enough, but I guess it depends on how happy you are navigating around the various settings and menus.

Lost itv4 ,itv4+1, itv3 how to retune, all good now

How do I do a rescan like if I do a full rescan will I mess all the channels I have now too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,475 ✭✭✭greasepalm

It depends on how you set it up .

Menu - tuners and scanning- tuner setup - automatic scan.

Choose your tuner to scan as different ones could be on foreign sats and change yes or no as yes does all tuners.

Green button for scanning and save.

AutoBouquetMaker if setup will load your bouquets.

I got this box and it has the original Fortis OS. I am trying to put a new bootloader on it to put Enigma on it but each time after turning it back on it gives me an Error message - "Err 131".
It starts but then give this error.
Has anyone seen this error before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭swoofer

What instructions are you following to load the new bootloader? And not ever seen that error? Its so long since I did a few that it seemed so easy. Did you check file on USB and what make of usb are you usIng? did you format to FAT32. iS THE BOX NEW?

I gave instructions on converting at the link on this post.

There are two steps involved: converting the box to Enigma2 and flashing the Enigma Image. I haven't seen the above error, however it could fail at either stage.

What I suspect happened is that it failed at Step 2. Backups of later versions of OpenATV have to be flashed online and will not auto-install. you could try using a version from here.

The box is new - came with the original Fortis OS.

I've gone to the Opena.tv thread and downloaded the cfe-tiviaraplus-20171020.ird file

Put it on a usb stick, power on the device
    I see "START DN" , "READING" , "ERR 131"

    Maybe it's my usb,
it has been formatted to FAT32
I extracted the zip file to it.
    There is "cfe-tiviaraplus-20171020.ird "
and a folder that says "system volume information" but I can't delete that. (should that be there ?)
I have tried multiple USBs and the ports are the USB ports front and back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,475 ✭✭✭greasepalm

You might have missed something and is usb stick 8gb or lower?
Read instructions again for button pressing.

The following steps are adapted from the Open ATV Forum, and are reproduced here for convenience, only. I have never converted a stb from the Fortis OS and cannot stand over their veracity.

    1) Download the “cfe-tiviaraplus_to_Enigma2-20171020.zip” file,
from the directory at start of this thread (post 1).
    2) Format USB Stick (128 MB - 2 GB USB 2.0) as FAT32
    3) Extract the zip file and copy the files to the USB Stick
    4) Power off your Box with the rear power switch.
    5) Disconnect any USB-HDD or WIFI Sticks from the Box
    6) Connect the USB Stick to any free USB port (I use the front port, for convenience).
    7) Press and hold the Channel Up Key on front of the Box and power on the box with rear power switch. (Note that this is not the “Power On” key with the white light.)
    8) The front display will show download and after 2 sec "Complete".
(This means that the box can now be flashed with an Enigma2 Image.)
    9) Power off the Box with the rear power switch

    10) Download the most recent image, from the link at start of this thread (post1).
    11) Flash the box, as described previously

    Got it.

I think it might be my computer (using my work one so they might have some weird software on it)
I used another laptop and this time it worked

I got "ERR 90" first when I used the front USB port
It worked when I tried again with the top rear USB port

Question on creating the OpenATV image:
Should the files on the USB be in a folder "tiviaraplus" or should I extract the contents of this folder to the USB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭swoofer

just extract to usb and that will be in correct layout but make sure usb is clear of any other files. You are starting from scratch and will have to do everything yourself but a good way of learning. With openatv 6.4 you will need to set a password to make things easy. its in network.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 spaced

Three attempted boots later - I now have OpenATV on the TiViar Box :D

I think the ERR 90 and ERR 131 messages must be caused by errors / issues with the USB stick.
When I re-formatted and used a different computer to create them it seemed to solve my problem.
(I was also having an issue with a Windows 10 and a Linux bootable USB, and I think this may also be the problem)

I will use the NewClareman image or THHB image to get it set to Ireland settings today.

I have spent the weekend going the settings, options, setup, reading forums etc.

I am using the NCM image.
(Completely new to Linux TV boxes, not to Linux though)

I know that a lot of effort has gone in to make this as user friendly as possible, which is exactly what I want, so I am wary when messing with the settings.

Why is HDMI CEC turned off ? , for simple operation of TiViar (Ch +/-, EPG, select, return etc.) this seems to work fine.
I want to edit the bouquets, Other than doing it one by one, what software / plugin do you recommend? (maybe Dreambox edit?)
I haven't put Picons on yet. can I put them on a USB ? I don't see the TiViar on the network to add them to the HDD. If yes , any particular port ? I had issues with flashing when using front port.
Is there anyway to get the satellite loop through to work? Can I set tuner B as the primary and tuner A as record ?. I want to connect the loop to a sat receiver on a smart TV (as a back up) .

When looking up anything the OpenATV forum seems to be mostly in German, am I in the right place?
OpenVix seems to have more support online, how come not use that as the base instead of OpenAtv.

I do apologize if some of this is covered already, there are about 300 pages of posts between this thread and the other one and I have read about 50 pages so far.

Hdmi cec is having control of box via tv remote .Power off tv and box goes off.

I dont edit my bouquets but you can have your own bouquet in autoBouquetmaker and might be called Favourites.

If any movement of channels happen within ABM they get adjusted but not your Favourites.

To see box on Network enable Samba in Utilities.

Boxes and tv need there own sat feed as you cant split them.

Picons can go on usb but i never used them.

    I use Openvix only

You are actually in the thread for the image made by the High Horse brigade. Your thread is this one

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057925678

It may seem long but a lot of effort was put in by newclareman and its all relevant. Its mostly at the beginning.

    1. Dreamboxedit is the one for bouquets.

    2. That loop through facility is specifically for the box and its to accomodate a single feed. It comes with a loop through cable.

    3. You can put picons on usb and if I was you I would set epg on usb as well unless you have an SSD.

When the box came out Openatv was very popular and easier to configure. Openvix has a few quirks as well.

To get the best benefit with your tv and box get a unicable LNB.

  • Registered Users Posts: 43 spaced

    I'm following both threads :D
Need to , to get a grips on the functions on the Tiviar box.

    Thanks for response

EPG on USB is a great idea - i think I saw it was stored to the Flash memory , can't imagine that's good for it.

I've twin cable with a hybrid LNB- in case of any future requirements
If I can get this box set up easy to use and as we want it , then no need for the Loop function. The backup cable gives me time in case I mess up somewhere.

The power supply I bought was THIS one ......you have to buy a KETTLE or Computer lead as well as the PSU does not come supplied with one

I also bought THESE so I wouldn't have to butcher the PSU cable

I used THESE to fix the PSU to the case. I had a 24 hour test and the PSU does not heat up to the same extent of the old power supply

and finally used THESE for all wiring connections

I did not need a soldering iron or anything more than a wire strippers /pliers and some extra wire I scavanged.

I did keep the on/off switch at the back as per hs5424's recommendation and wired it as an on/off for the 12V not the mains. This is to prevent a possible power surge on the 12V circuit when plugging in.

I'd rather not put up pictures here as I'm not prepared for scorn that would be rightly poured on my efforts but send me a PM and I can send you some pictures.

Total repair bill about €22 and about 2 hours of my time below is an image of the rear of the box now.....so mains AC is now 'hardwired' onto the Tiviar. This again was to avoid any butchering of the presupplied PSU cables

I used "a Clanger's" great suggestion here and it worked a charm - at a cost of €21. You just need a little techie skills to feed the 4x12V and the 3xGND lines from the 8-way splitter to the connector on the system board. That's it!!
It'll never win a prize for beauty, but when the lid is closed, that, what I don't see doesn't worry me
