In fairness Tony was right to be shocked. I am not shocked though, as I have seen the morons not wearing masks correctly for the last year, operating and using sheebeens, the funerals with 300 in attendance, house parties, etc A huge amount of people are idiots who need to be spoon feed and forced to comply. All these idiots are the very ones who will be moaning when we are locked down again and they are the ones to blame.

How to make 'morons' comply? Certainly not by calling people that and 'idiots'.
And the word comply implies either persuasion or force.
Doing the huff and puff and virtue signalling has never worked so all you have left is force, by the police. Ok, now the weather is great and people go out, where they should and not stay indoors.
Still calling them 'morons' and 'idiots'? Well, then they will call you a selfrighteous such and such, and rightly so.
Now you need a large police force, you know, the ones you have in police states, patrolling the streets and beaches. In riot gear, enforcing the law.
I think you secretely have dreams of that, with you at the top, directing the water canon, taser in hand, controlling the rack and the whip. It is a well known thing in psychology.
The secret dictator, just waiting for his chance..

Haha Not at all. They should make mask wearing compulsory outside though, if people will insist on gathering in huge crowds like this. I know you hate authority but can you not see a problem with that video?

As for the people who wear masks under their chins, nose etc, every time I see them, I think oh there is another stupid person. Before the pandemic it was hard to tell the stupid people from the non stupid.

Yeah all the scientists and medical experts haven't got a clue. Maybe the surgeons should stop wearing them during operations? :pac:

You really have an obsessive support for masks. As many others have said they are at best a placebo given how most people wear and treat them.

On the "stupid people" point - that would be those wearing masks alone in cars for example. I'm not sure why people would need to wear masks outdoors for a virus that most experts agree poses minimal risk outdoors (remembering of course that the actual risk to the majority of people from it is minimal anyway).

Well well. I thought that after all this time you would have stopped peddling this bullshiite. Seems I was mistaken. Wise up old buddy.

But even then, others will continue, Paul Reid. The fear train will keep rolling..

In fairness Paul Reid comes across much better than Tony, even his tweets today are less condescending than Tony's.
I think Paul Reid is more intuned with everything as a whole, where Tony as cmo is shackled by covid

The CMO gets some flak on this Thread, I'm not saying every decision by NPHET was perfect but people seem to be forgetting its NPHET"s advice, like it or not that is leading to a reopening. Its also worth pointing out that there was Grave warning about a 4th wave at the last advisory meeting to government but overall NPHET advised government to proceed with reasonable cautions.

If anything, I think THE CMO has been quite measured lately, indeed since his return from bereavement leave. The indo headlining with the 4th wave concerns if anyone wants to read.

The same CMO who oversaw the cervical smear scandal? Holohan shouldn't be within an arses roar of any kind of power or responsibility. For him to pontificate after what went on is disgusting. He's nothing more than a hypocrite.

Just wear the mask and stop being a child. If you were told not to wear one, you would probably wear one.

It would be interesting to know how many people have been infected and died because people cant get it into their thick heads that you have to wear them over your nose.

Um well taking out nursing home deaths and those who contracted in hospitals and died, both places where correct mask wearing would have been a thing, I'd say extremely little of the general population at all. Like a literal tiny tiny tiny percentage - in regards to dying through infection by someone not wearing it over their nose.

It could be the cause of someone getting covid and developing long covid though.

either way its not helpful to wear them incorrectly. Plus you also look stupid.

If you think someone properly wearing their mask is going to get long covid from coming into contact with someone wearing a mask below their nose I don’t even know what to say.

You aren't protected just because you are wearing a mask. everyone needs to wear one. you can get it through your eyes.

You might get it through your eyes if you are a medico working with covid patients and there are a high concentration of aerial particles, so your odds might be about the same as dying from a covid innoculation.

I am not against masks and/ but, disregarding its efficacy, it clearly is a first line of defense. The science has been updated, though. NO evidence of outdoor infection spread. People were wrong on that including myself.
I was angry about the possible spread of infection last year during the many large protests where a lot of people were not wearing masks.
Turns out they were not the super spreader events everybody feared.
There is no need to wear masks outdoors. What i find stupid is a 'wear masks' mantra. Wear masks indoors, yes. Supported by evidence. As long as people dont differentiate i feel free to call them ignorant.
I feel it is deliberate ignorance by official bodies.
It is virtue signalling based on an outdated model. It is not based on current knowledge. They want to keep the fear factor high and ignoring current data, but by repeating the 'message' day after day it has lost its power.
Yes, the video was pretty disgusting. Its ugly and things like this happen every year though inevitably more so because of the various lockdowns.
We have to cut people some slack. Now is not the time to hit them over the head w false information.

People have been infected through ears as well, unless your body is completley covered it can get into any mucous membrane area, ear canal gathers all kind of junk in it and doesn't be long getting into middle ear from there.

If they would give some vague indication on mass gatherings as opposed to talking as if we're literally years away from them, things like this wouldn't happen so often. A lot of people have lost hope that they'll be allowed to congregate in crowds like this for years to come, and for the kind of people who derive the most enjoyment of life from crowded gatherings, that ongoing "not in our lifetime" bullsh!t is leading to a sort of mass nihilism, hence scenes like those witnessed last night.

It's that simple. You cannot tell people in their twenties who up until 2020 were used to being packed in to dancefloors and concert mosh pits every weekend that they may never be allowed to do so again, and expect them not to eventually break and say "f*ck it, life is too depressing without it".

They need to give some clear indication on what they regard as an acceptable timeframe during which people are prohibited from socialising in large numbers. Because people simply will not accept that as a long term situation. I know internet forums tend to skew more introverted so there are a lot of people who probably don't understand this type of psyche, but there are people for whom experiencing something like was seen in the videos from William St last night may have been the first time they've been able to smile in more than a year.

Many, many people literally thrive on large social gatherings, life for them, build their enjoyment of life around them. To temporarily shut them down to deal with a crisis is the right thing to do. To talk as if they are simple dispensable long-term, is f*cking insanity. The government keeps kicking the can down the road as far as giving a clear indication on the return of nightclubs, concerts, outdoor festivals, etc - now we're being told it will be July before they'll even hint at when such events might be allowed again.

Expecting people to watch their lives slowly passing them by without experiencing what is, for many, the one thing that makes life worth living, is entirely unsustainable. Even Simon Harris admitted this in mid-2020. It's ridiculous for so many people to imagine that the massive number of people for whom mass gatherings are life's bread and butter would tolerate an indefinite, undefined, unconstrained ban on such activities without being shown literally any light at the end of the tunnel.
