Another War of the Worlds series out this winter.

This one starring Gabriel Byrne & Elizabeth McGovern.

The series will take place in present-day Europe, similar to the 2005 film by Steven Spielberg, but it will be a re-imagining of the classic H.G. Wells' novel
In this new take on War Of The Worlds, when astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. Earth's population waits for further contact with bated breath, but does not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out, with just pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world. As alien ships appear in the sky, the survivors ask a burning question — who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction?

Whoops; guess that's what happens when adapting public domain works, nothing's stopping someone else doing the same.

Nothing to go on from that promo; terrible trailer mind you - really hate that modern gimmick in trailer editing of quickly flashing to black as the sound stutters. An obvious ploy to make things MOAR DRAMATIC.

I particularly liked 'Come with me right now or you're gonna die!'

If the beeb actually finds a broadcast slot reasonably soon we could have the War of the War of the Worlds.

So maybe a time machine could be used to go between the shows? :)

So many people doing remakes, that no one can keep up, so this happens.

Just waiting now for the German, English and American versions of Neverending Story releasing the same year

I was quite looking forward to the BBC remake. The trailer for this one looks shocking.

Just noticed: Oh God. The mother from Downton Abbey is in it. Shockingly terrible actor (In that at least)

I just watched this, I enjoyed it. Trying to work out what happend in episode 5.
They pointed their satalite dish's at a satalite and that made it crash?

Started watching this on the Sky Box. Its very good, although, very, very bleak. But just finished episode 3. Very impressed by it.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

5 Episodes in and I have to say I've really enjoyed it so far - Canal+ production, It is set in UK and France (subtitles in French scenes) - Storyline is different to other WoW versions film&series I've seen. Deffo recommend to any one with any interest in sci-fi genre.

We're three episodes in and really enjoying it too. Good for a change to see a different setting, and its very dark too.

Only watched the first episode of the BBC one, it was dire.

That was excellent and deserved a bigger platform than it got compared to the dreadful BBC version. The Irish actor was great in it, I had not seen him in anything apart form Love/Hate hopefully this is a good stepping stone for him to bigger things.

Where is/was the Fox and Studio Canal version available?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,877 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Although noting has been confirmed I was reading today that the creators of the show have been working on a second season since last October.

    Excellent news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,877 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Season 2 starts next week on Canal+ and in June on Epix in the States no date yet for Fox UK.

It might get a bit bigger of a spotlight now because Normal People's Daisy Edgar Jones is in it which it hit big after season 1 of this.

Season two is released in a good few places from what I've seen:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Worlds_(2019_TV_series)
The eight-episode second season was released in full in France on MyCanal on May 17, 2021, before being broadcast from the same day in weekly batches of two episodes, mirroring the release of the first season.[5] The season is set to premiere on Fox on May 24, 2021,[4] and in the United States on Epix on June 6, 2021.

    Really looking forward to this.
    Very under rated series

    Really looking forward to this.
    Very under rated series

Watching season two, two episodes in so don't want to ruin it for anyone still on season 1
Took a bit of a twist with the aliens being human or at least almost human. Can find little on it online.

Have to suspend a little bit of disbelief such as the aliens having such amazing tech - quantum travel but are using guns as weapons! My theory is that the are from the future and have travelled back in time to stop humans messing up the earth in the first place.

Not sure how I feel about them being humans

I just started watching this. Three episodes in and really enjoying it. With one exception. It’s driving me nuts that so many characters are taking long journeys by foot and not one single person so far has remembered that bicycles exist.

I can't seem to play war of the worlds is there an easy fix it won't give me option?

Never mind someone changed the content rating.

    That’s brilliant!!!
Maybe the aliens are using them.
BTW You’re so right but despite that it’s a brilliant series and I’m looking forward to Season 2.

I'm on episode 5. A character on a long journey literally walks by an abandoned bicycle (and even a helmet). Character suddenly realises they really need to get somewhere very fast. Character runs.

    I feel like I'm actually being trolled!

Probably because there are very few ways to shoot a dramatic, purposeful scene when the characters are peddling furiously on bicycles. It's not the most elegant of modes of transport :pac:

Obviously no one is cycling because the aliens took Strava down.

We just started watching this and I came on here to post this exact comment!

I mean there must be loads of brilliant bikes just lying around and the French aren't shy of la bicyclette either.

But other than the dearth of velocipedists this is a brilliant series - have made it to episode four so far and looking forward to the rest. There are some dark families in this, all with secrets!

Having watched the first two episodes of S2 I don't so much feel like this is a theory as what we are almost explicitly being told, only the humans in the show haven't figured it out yet.
I feel like they are caught in a time loop, doing the same thing over and over again. The humans from the future attacking and setting in motion the circumstances that lead to their illness again and again. I'm getting major de ja vu of a certain 3 season German Netflix show. (Ironically, as in that show de ja vu was actually a recurring theme.)

He's a lot worse than that, he's definitely worth all the Anglo-Saxon expletives known to mankind.

They're a strange bunch if they're time-travellers, because they don't seem to give a toss about the butterfly effect, and, with the help of the robo-dogs, are killing pretty much anyone with a pulse, and with zero conscience..

I suspect it's an alternate universe - they said they got here immediately...
Something we were doing here was obviously affecting them there

They aren't killing indiscriminately though. The robodogs were specifically programmed not to kill Emily and Sacha. Sacha was in the open air during the EMP that killed almost everyone but survived because the invaders wanted him to and created their genocide pulse in a way that would spare him. Undoubtedly to ensure the existence of the invading race, who are all descended from Emily and Sacha's baby and the babies stolen from the hospital. Because there is also a theme of incest within the show. Sacha being the product of his uncle/father raping his mother. And part of the invaders' health problems stem from the fact that they come from an extremely shallow gene pool, which already had numerous health issues with Emily's blindness and Sacha's muscular dystrophy, and not just the virus that Bill creates. I'm assuming that we will find out who Emily's biological father is at some point and I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover an element of incest there either.
