All international travel opening up on July 19th according to RTE, game, set and match. The Ryanair website will buckle under the strain.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0528/1224365-covid-19/

Not quite open, but getting there.
"There are going to be restrictions and requirements around vaccines and testing and we will be back to a situation with different rules for different countries," he said.

What'll be permitted is "non-essential travel". In effect nothing will have changed; you'll still need to be vaccinated or PCR tested to get back into the country without quarantine.

I'd say flight numbers will still be quite down. Whatever about feeling comfortable at home, many people still won't be comfortable jammed into an aircraft or going to a different country with different restrictions, different covid ettiquette, etc. The nightmare scenario for anyone would be to test positive abroad and be stuck there for a few more weeks.

It'll be a boost, but it won't be full steam ahead.

What time is the announcement this evening? Will it be on RTE Player? The little one wanted to watch it.

So maybe I'm being over simplistic so bear with me. If the chains of infection for one variant get broken up and surpressed surely its inevitable that the next variant will become more common place. It doesn't necessarily mean its worse or more infectious than the last, just that its now the one that is currently spreading in the community.

How are the chains of infection being broken up for one variant, and not others? How is this happening?
Unless of course you mean (for example) one variant can spread at social distancing 1.5m, but the next dominant strain only needs 2m because it's more contagious.

I took the variant dominance to mean that the dominant variant always takes over because it it more contagious. It is by this metric that they know it's more contagious.

Won't be rushing anywhere myself...If we're able to travel to Azerbaijan and Luxembourg for The Ireland matches in October/November then I'll be all over it!

Anyone else hate the use of the word trial? They are trialling putting 3,000 in a 80,000 stadium?? A trial would indicate a risk/this hasn’t being done before.....You’d get 3,000 people on a average sunny day at a large park....

Did I see 200 at some stadiums??! 200 people outside spread apart - living dangerously lads :)

Bloody hell they are being conservative...

It should be 20% in open air stadiums, perfectly safe.

I think it's 6pm. I'd use the RTE News Twitter feed instead for a live link, much better...

It should be 20% today, let alone in 10 weeks time.

I was listening to an interview on polish channel,
Maybe someone on here might have a better scientific understanding than me, but basically what was said that the usage of r rate is becoming prity much useless as, as vaccination increases and coupled with persons infected in the last six months, will skew the r rate in the population of those can still be infected.
Giving a higher r rate if the vaccinated and those with natural immunity are not taken into account.

Isn't it remarkable that the Department of Health can still produce daily case numbers in spite of hack, but absolutely nothing published on daily vaccines administered since May 13th. No hesitation scaring the public, positive developments are buried. And allowing Donnelly to wriggle out of his '80% vaccinated by the end of June' lie.

The daily cases we are getting now is the swab data, I presume it's from another department /company.

If Michéal Martin's arms were long enough, he'd pat himself on the back. Gormless smirk on him, not one iota of shame. Most conservative government in Europe by a distance. Our nearest neighbours have shamed them into action, albeit at a snail's pace.

    19th July
    Galway liberated from Indians

    Ireland freed from Covid

Yes, we know. You don't like him and you never liked restrictions.

I'm no fan of his but you'd find fault no matter what he said or what point in the recovery we find ourselves at.

I wouldn't have his job for anything.

That's brilliant - I always said you could write a sit - com about this government-they've just proven it.

So it’s confirmed that it’s a slower relaxation than last year

Does MM know there is a vaccine?

Laughable that there is now a discussion on Matt Cooper about how can we pay back the massive sums of money borrowed

Not a word about the cost until now

    Cinemas on the 7th, yes!!!

It's much the same, the gap is longer though. Last year it was 3 weeks between phases.

Okay, I'll rephrase it. You never accepted the rationale for restrictions.
