It's the way Martin and the government are saying things

Yes it's a variant of concern that we have very little cases of and also the vaccines seem to work on

Sure keep an eye on it but our vaccine program should significantly out pace any increase in cases

It's the mood music changing in the lead up to announcements particularly when it comes to any easing in relation to hospitality

I don't know if it's tempering expectations or the government always going for the doom and gloom scenarios

Indian variant has cases in Northern Ireland yet they opened hospitality up yesterday

Yes maybe they won't slow down reopening here but I'll be surprised if indoor dining won't be mid July at the earliest

    Will see on Friday

I dont see any mood music changing. There's not even a suggestion of anything being delayed when it comes to hospitality. Mid July was always the time that was hinted at, it was publicans that asked for 1st July.

There's usually a 4 week gap so expect indoor to be either the week of 5th July or week of the 12th.

Yet it seems one of the countries we are being encouraged to chance our arm and follow is a lot more concerned over the Indian variant than we are.

It was always going to be after the 5th anyway.

Advice was no more easing for 4 weeks after the 7th of June, that brings us to the 5th of July.

If everything is on track I see no reason for it not open then, I have said the 4th will be apt, all though that's a Sunday so could be a non runner.

It wouldn't surprise me if they opened food establishments first and then proper pubs later.

Can you blame people? We've had over a year of almost nothing but doom, leading people to naturally expect even more of it.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Outdoor hospitality is expected to resume on 7 June, but Cabinet must decide on Friday when the sector can serve customers indoors again.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin indicated yesterday that this may not happen in the first week of July
and he said it remains the case that outdoors is best.

But over half of the adults will have been fully vaccinated and most will have received the first dose of any of the two-dose vaccines by the end of June. So why might indoor dining still not be allowed even in the first week of July?

Yeah it's almost like they don't share an island with the UK and can take drastic mitigation action like completely cutting them off.

    True

Time limits are being brought in at the behest of pubs and restaurants though

I don't think there would be the same support for going back to gastro v wet pub distinction

Apart from gastro pubs and restaurants.

    Hmmm

All it needs is the €9 meal to return first lol

Ugh time limits, I hope every establishment disregards them this time, no one cares at this stage. The cynic in me though says Failte Ireland are bringing it back to keep turnover of customers high for economic reasons. Leo and Mick already said there would be no limit, or meal bollox.

I don`t know what figures you are working off that over half of adults will be fully vacinated by end of June but I think that is highly unlikely.

The UK presently only has 41.9% of adults fully vaccinated, and while it is difficult to know what our levels currently are due to the hacker attack, two weeks ago on the 11th. we had 514,808 adults fully vaccinated which is around 12%.

I know of one pub that will be doing this.

Groups tend to spend most money in the first couple of hours in a pub.

Much higher sales of food that way, which carries the highest profit margin.

Desserts have the biggest mark up generally

12 young lads slamming copious rounds of shots at the end of the night has the biggest mark up.

Indian variant first detected one month ago in the UK so will of been there a few weeks earlier. Cases static and most of the deaths today were backdated. Huge amount of testing going on and it's still flat. The media are making to big a problem out of this.

The media need to stop all this fear mongering over variants, they are here to stay, there will be one come Winter.

You can see in some posters how the hysteria about variants has gotten the better of them!!

There were a myriad of variants last summer, did no harm.

It's unreal. 1.5 million tests a day going on and everything open. You walk in a supermarket and you can have a test while the wife is doing the shopping if you want. no way of knowing but i bet over half of them have not had a vaccine despite being offered one.
