Necrus Revisited (Part Three) REVEAL Thread

    Howdy folks,

Time to complete this Walrus trilogy I guess :D

For this edition I'm revisiting former Walruses and categories I really liked - basically I'm going to be taking other people's categories and jamming them all into one Walrus. It's always nice to get a new, and different slant on previously used categories anyways.

Last Walrus (proper Walrus anyways) I ran had 10 categories. I'm going to replicate that again, I think 10 is plenty :D

    1. (partyjungle's Walrus) - Song that is hugely improved by the video

I use a mixture of YouTube and Spotify when judging songs, I set up my Spotify playlists to have me drifting off to sleep, but when I'm putting my thoughts down I like to have them playing on YouTube. Hit me with a track that is enhanced by the video.

    2. (partyjungle's Walrus) - Video Game Music

Be it a hugely popular song used in a game such as Rock Band, or an original piece used in a game such as Final Fantasy, I want your selections here. Always liked the idea of this category.

    3. (Mollyb60 and AnLachaCorchra's Walrus) Song from a genre you usually wouldn’t listen to

Walrus is always a fun game for me, it really gives me a lot of new music I normally wouldn't listen to. So send me on something from an artist or genre you wouldn't normally be a fan of for my own perusal.

    4. (Barney92 and MrKingsley's Walrus) - Song from a musical

Being a fan of the stage myself I love a good musical. There's so many that I haven't seen as well. Hit me up with your favourite :D

    5. (Homer J. Fong's Walrus) - "You're from the 70's but I'm a 90's bitch"

Not too complicated this one. Hit me with a 90s track you love.

    6. (LeVar's Walrus) - As Seen on TV

Nothing terribly complex or complicated here folks, give me your fave TV theme!

    7. (ShaneU's Walrus) - Driving Miss Walrus

Interestingly, although I won this Walrus (my only win to date), I did not do well in this category. I've specifically decided to revive this one to see what entries people might send me :) Send me a choon you listen to when Driving!

    8. (Reberetta's Walrus) - Give that Scene some Music!

A rather different round here, from a very different (but excellent) Walrus before. I'll give you a scene below and your job is to cue up music that suits it.
Instead of the whole Walrus being based on it though, it's just the one round this time out. Scenes below, I will give you all a choice of two:

Anakin and Obi Wan Fight Scene

Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith (2005)

    OR

    D-Day Landing Scene

    Saving Private Ryan (1998)

    9. (Ectoplasm's Walrus) - In my hometown

Another fun and original round, give me a track from an artist based in your hometown. Home Country will do either if you're stuck, I'm not fussy.

    10. (Rikand's Walrus, the Original) - Summer Songs

Getting to that time of year again, what better way to finish up a Walrus than with some Summery tracks :)

So 10 categories, and 16 players took up the call to arms and submitted their entries...

    They are:

    Deja Boo
    Kolido
    ShaneU
    the purple tin
    Homer J. Fong
    Necrina
    JP Liz V1
    Sawduck
    cee_jay
    ari101
    Barna77
    Irish Aris
    Trigger
    fixXxer
    Electric Nitwit
    Also Starring LeVar Burton

First category reveal is tonight at circa 9pm.

A song that is made better or simply becomes more enjoyable by watching the video. There aren’t a whole pile that come to mind when I think of this category, but I’ve dug deep into the vault to provide some examples of what I was looking for here:

That’s just a few that popped into my head. November Rain would do pretty well too, or a good few of the epic rock videos…

Anyways how do y'all think you did? We will find out at 9pm...

...I was similar. I never watch videos these days, so I had to go back to my comfort zone of the late 90s :D

I still start with my standard, misplaced confidence though!

Seriously I should have thought about it before the game :pac:

Spent about 10 mins staring at the word document when writing my blurbs going... Uhhhhhhhhhh what do I put down here?

All's well that ends well though... Probably...

Ah, I'm sure most people had plenty of ideas. Sadly I'd used the dancing astronauts in the quickfire space walrus :p

I found the music video category a bit of a struggle myself too, happy with the song I picked for it in the end though.

I don't recall what I sent in on that or any of the categories, except one....
I didn't listen to the original soundtracks of the movie scenes, so have no idea what they are supposed to sound like. Only 2 songs I could think of matched the fight sequence. My second choice was no better than my first, lol :D but they both made me laugh (no offence to them masculine light beam warriors, they rock so!!!) :pac:

Welcome to our new players, and of course our Walrus veterans, great to have you all on board. As always, don’t fret too much about your placement, it’s only my opinion – and everyone else says that’s sh1te so it’s probably not too bad of a thing if you don’t do well :P

Just the single duplicate in this round. We do have one other song picked twice, but in different categories so that’s gonna be… interesting…

Kicking off in just under 30 mins. Just warming up now for the big show

    Mr Oizo - Flat Beat

Ugh…. This song is so annoying! I can really only give it a 3. That being said the video is a very passable 7 so I guess it does elevate the song? But not that far unfortunately…

This is some seriously weird trippy sh1t :pac: I quite like the song but I’m not sure the video elevates it, I found it very repetitive. Dance moves are pretty decent as is the replication of the lady but other than that… solid 5 for each I’ll be giving it.

Mylene Farmer and LP - N'Oublie Pas

The song is grand, nothing to write home about but it’s definitely listenable. The video doesn’t really do much for me though. A lot of these lower ranked entries did well in one category and poorly in the other. I’d give the song a solid 6 out of 10 but can only go as high as 4.5 for the video.

Yeah, sure if they were that great, I'd be caught up. I'm only 4 episodes behind on Discovery, but can hardly be bothered to watch them. Seems like a chore.

Only started Lower Decks, two eps in which were grand, a nice easy watch at least.

Nope. I think I'm in a minority in that I liked the first two series of Discovery. The third was crap though :o

Is that Chad Kroeger in the video or am I imagining things? I really liked this song actually, a solid 7 out of 10. The video is.... not really great though once you get past the whole stripper thing. 4 out of 10 imo. It’s ok like.

Now we’re talking. This is a good example of what I was looking for. I’m not a big Coldplay fan, I find Chris Martin a pretentious arse of the highest order. So I did a little bit of a sigh when I saw this come through but it’s a decent track… for Coldplay anyways. 5 out of 10. The video is very good. Really enjoyed the story it told and the payoff is worth watching it. 7 bells outta 10. Getting much warmer now :D

Very much enjoyed both the song and the video here, solid 7s all around. I’m not sure the video improves the song much mind, which is something I would say about the songs closer to the top of the rankings.

Great track, I’ve probably overplayed this a lot over the years though. The video is a solid banger though and yeah, I think it probably improves it quite a bit. 6.5 for the song, marked down a bit because of overfamiliarity and 8 outta 10 for the video.

This is such a good song, just love the lyrics and how Cash sings it. I’d never really paid attention to the video before because, frankly I didn’t think I needed to. I do love how it looks back on his career and the regret over certain parts in sync with the song. Does it improve the song? Not really much it can improve on tbf!!
9 for the song, 6 for the video.

This is not…great. The song is alright like, but when you have to sorta rip off Eiffel 65 for the video I kinda have to wonder why lol. A generous 5 for the track and a measly 3 points for the video… and I’m probably being generous at that.

This is woejaysus bad. Firstly the track is just a rip off (and not a good one at that) of Baby Got Back. Secondly the video is literally just multiple scenes of booty shaking. It’s ok for like a minute but this drags on for almost 5!!! A very generous 2.5 for the song and a 4 for the video, at least it distracts from the terrible song in fairness.

Does seem a somewhat ‘obvious’ choice but it’s a cracker. The song kind of IS the video imo so it definitely personifies the round. 10 for the video, 6 and a half for the song, marked down slightly for overfamiliarity.
