Surprise surprise………..Can anyone actually picture T Holohan in August on TV ever saying “
“Ye can now all hop on a plane to see your families or go on holidays abroad now I’m now sending a letter to the government for the recommendation “

My arse he ever will because by August it will be the loompaland variant black cloud excuse.

Getting to be a bit of a joke now. Varadkar spouting out of him only a few weeks back that he expects 80% of all adults to have been offered a vaccine. Just when other countries seem to be getting their act together our shower want to keep the exits blocked. Guaranteed they won't have a problem with tourists coming in with a digital cert.

2 real questions regarding the Certs:
    1. When young children were traveling up to now with PCR negative adults, they did not have to PCR test. Will they now have to have a PCR test if the adults are traveling with a Covid-Cert that they have qualified for based on being vaccinated?
    2. (Finger in the wind type question) After the EU Covid Cert is introduced in early July, will other countries accept domestic national vaccination certs from lagard countries (eg, embossed HSE A6 piece of paper) during the subsequent 6 week grace period?

As I understand it, both those decisions will be in the "competence" of the destination country.

The cert is really just a standardized way of providing evidence.

The hotel quarantine list has been updated. Andorra, Georgia, Kuwait, Mongolia, Nigeria and Puerto Rico have been removed.

What are the rules on travel from the US at the moment?

Currently in a house share with 2 others and one friend is planning to bring his girlfriend over from the US for 2 weeks at the end of June. Appreciate it is tough for everyone but we think its a bit much as we are both working from home and the place is crowded as it is. She has been vaccinated.

My friend thinks his girlfriend will be able to quarantine in our place.

Pending the full introduction of the EU Covid cert (with additional Tony protections on top) is there any likelihood of us creating a traffic light system similar to the UK in the interim?

??? Ireland already has a traffic light system - the EU one. The main problem is that cases all across the EU/EEA are so high that only Iceland, parts of Finland and parts of Norway are green.

There is some talk about increasing the acceptable threshold for the green classification across the EU, which would put Malta and Portugal on the green list.

Hulahoop and his crew will push the vaccine cert out until Mid-August, by that time the prices of European holidays will be expensive cos it's when a lot of Europe traditionally goes on holiday...
Plus those with school age children will want to ensure kids are ready for 1 day back at school in early september...

Though like others have said, if they don't allow travel abroad then it will increase numbers who won't be rushing to get the vaccine....

Isn't it that we have 6 weeks and that's it. If we don't have it implemented by then, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot at EU level.

Yes I understand that to be the case. They could in theory opt out entirely but that wouldn’t go down well diplomatically

Ya, I reckon they'll just delay as long as they can and muddy the waters with the media so people don't book stuff. It'll be economic and not health reasons why they'll delay it.

But a lot of people have already booked stuff as they just rebooked from last year. It's crazy all this talk of variants when it's been proven that the vaccines are effective against them. Why can't those of us who want to, just get on with our lives and those who want to stay locked up stay that way!!!

Okay... But the traffic light rating system that's there does not take account of vaccination levels, arrival/departure testing etc.

If the fine lifts June 2nd I’m booking our flights for start of august with the kids, will hopefully be able to just do pcr if certs not in place. Myself and Mr PC7 will be fully vaccinated, seems ridiculous if rest of Europe will be allowed and we won’t.

It doesn't consider vaccine coverage at the moment. I don't know if that is being discussed or if it is assumed to be moot once the passport system comes into effect. Testing is part of the traffic light system. When countries signed up to it, they agreed that they would not require testing or quarantine from green areas.

The weekly reports are the thing to watch. If several countries go green and orange, we will see restrictions lifting much sooner.

Yes, but it only has one light. A big fat red one

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

So France is on the hotel list while countries such as Nederlands Cyprus Croatia Slovenia etc with much higher per incidence rates are not. Who makes up this crap

This whole situation is a farce. I really hope people don’t stand by and watch our fellow EU citizens travel freely all summer long while we sit here battling gale force wind and rain because of the abundance of caution, concern, possible variants, etc... what a shocking way to treat the families of this country - many of whom have bookings for this summer moved from last year.

People will unfortunately. We really need some leadership from out govt our MEPs also but most Irish people will shrug their shoulders and listen to Holohan and Donnelly.

Yes its absolutely ridiculous, they must be worried about the potential for the garlic and onion or baguette covid variants to emerge from France. I'm going there come what may this summer and will be returning some other way if Guantanamo bay is still operating at Dublin in August.

Do journalists ask questions with regard to covid of NPHET or govt? Or do they just go along with what has been told. For example what journalist questions the hotel quarantine to those in authority

Depends on the roll out and new variants. (I know the vaccines work on variants but there was some report that one strain of the Indian variant appeared to be able to defeat one dose of certain vaccines)
