Lads, I don't mean to be dismissive of the variants, as they are genuine cause for concern and monitoring, but we've been here before, multiple times. With the same outcome. It plays out something like this: new variant discovered - hyperbolic headlines ensue - public health expert opinions - public anxiety and hysteria follows - data emerges that vaccines work - variant talk quells - new variant discovered - repeat.

Variants should be something the scientific community monitor and discuss, it should not be a topic of conversation for the general public IMO. However, the media in their collective efforts to rage against the dying of the light, have created this obsession. We know all current vaccines work against all known variants - even the WHO have said so. Pfizer have said they will not be tweaking their vaccine to counteract variants. Time to let this obsession go from the public discourse.

This is it in a nutshell.

Remember in January when Matt Hancock was quoted on some webinar saying there was "early evidence" that the South Africa variant basically rendered the vaccines useless? Yet today we never hear about the SA variant.

Same story with the Brazil one. Remember when NPHET said we had 25 cases of it here and people lost their minds? Yet we've barely heard about it since.

Remember the Bristol variant? I assume most don't but there was a significant amount of hysteria about that in January too.

As I understand it, Curevac have two mRNA vaccines coming

CVnCoV - 1st gen, in late-stage clininal testing (phase 3) for delivery in 2021
CV2CoV - 2st gen, pre-clinical

They are only flagging it because we are behind the UK in terms of vaccinations , but not thankfully 2nd doses as much .

2 doses full protection.

Heard UK are bringing forward their spaced out Pfizer doses to 8week interval because of this dip in protection at 10 weeks on the data .

Has anyone reschedule a appointment and got a rebook at a different centre, my local vaccine centre is 10 minutes away but getting a booking for one a hour and half away, was told by call centre just to rebook until your local one comes up.

I know without updated vaccine figures it's hard to work out, but how likely are we to have 80% of adults offered a first dose of a vaccine by the end of June? I suppose if during the last week of June, people get appointments up to the first week into July, it's within the target I feel.

They reckon its 290 to 300, 000 a week now being done between GPs and MVCs .
So going by that how many should be left to do after the next 5 weeks ?
