No Irish site seems to have picked up on it yet either. Guess they don't want people to get excited

Reuters with a decent summary article of what was agreed today

Interesting report on it here: https://www.euronews.com/2021/05/20/deal-reached-to-introduce-an-eu-wide-covid-travel-pass

This says that one dose will suffice for it. Great news if so, but I can't see that being right is it?

Bloomberg is also reporting that 'all 27 governments will be required to waive quarantine requirements for those inoculated with shots approved by the bloc’s drugs regulator' (would seem to be the timely end of MHQ so) and it also looks like a serious injection of cash into making tests affordable .

Good news all round if it all comes to pass.

That would be fantastic. The addition of antigen will bring the price down a little as well

What price are the antigen tests in Spain?

Did anyone come across a list of NI's green/amber/red countries? It mightn't have been published yet either though.

Northern Ireland’s devolved government has agreed to add Portugal, Israel and Gibraltar to its “Green list” for international travel, according to a letter to lawmakers seen by Reuters.

    From the Guardian.

Went listening to the announcement there, some of it wasn't translated so I might have missed it but is there any mention of kids?

I did catch, that each member state can say whether it's PCR or Antigen they require for those not vaccinated. The EU will provide a fund to make PCRs less expensive but he's hoping that each member will take Antigen as they are proving to be reliable. They did conceed on the 6 week roll in for certificates. He said the certs they give now from HSE etc will be phased out and this new one brought in. The 6 week roll in is only to do with the certs all other measures are to come into immediate effect (so if I'm reading that right MHQ gone for member states? ) if a MS wants to bring in additional measures ie quarantine or testing for vaccinated EU citizens it's supposed to give a min 48hr notice and be published to the public in 24hr.

Think I got that right, could be wrong! My head is swimming with info and trying to book flights 😆

NPHET won't be happy that we'll have to accept Antigen tests

Can't believe that the EU Commission has been conned by the snake oil salesmen. Need to get our experts Tony and his sidekick Phil on the phone fast to sort it out. Better still, let's send them over all expenses paid for as long as they need (with a one way ticket on the ferry because we don't have an aviation industry any more).

So can the Iriah government still add on the 6 weeks from 1st of July or not?

Also does this mean we do not have to quarantine when we come back to Ireland from an EU country?

I can't remember where I read it but I think the RATs need to be professionally administered, i.e. not Lidl.

I'm not sure if this was posted yet, but this sounds a bit more promising:

Trying to figure out from what date this Cert will be enacted & if Ireland get their six extra weeks to destroy the summer season or not...

what date would be safe (ish) to book from?

The green cert has to be implemented by 2 August at the latest (6 weeks from 21 June) so any time from then on should be safe. Earlier might be possible but you would be taking a risk.

That's correct, so we'll continue contributing to the profits of the Tory-backed Randox.

Just got an email to say my flight to Lanzaorte in late June is cancelled. So I did a bit of research and found that it seems:

Up to end of June Aer Lingus only flying to Lanzarote on a Saturday

Up to 18th of July only flying Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

After 18th of July they have a daily schedule.

With the Green Certs about to be up and running those flights are going to be busy!!

Nothing got to do with 'Nphet'

The Antigen tests required for travel must be undertaken and verified by a third party. Ie done professionally.

And not at home by yourself where it its known such tests result in lower sensitivity.

    Permitted where?

You can buy Antigen tests to self administer here if you like - but the results will not be accepted for essential travel etc eg Flying to Germany etc.

    Same for new regulations

    Basic stuff.

I borrowed your emoji . Better suited here

(Antigen ) testing must have been conducted or supervised in the Federal Republic of Germany or abroad by a service provider pursuant to section 6 (1) of the Coronavirus Testing Ordinance (in German) (Coronavirus-Testverordnung) or in the context of company-based testing for the purpose of occupational health and safety by staff who have the required training, knowledge and experience or must have been conducted or supervised abroad by an entity authorised to do so under the law of the country concerned.

The third party must also verify and confirm the identity of the tested person with official photo identification. The proof of testing must indicate what date the test was taken as well as the type of test carried out.

I'd say after the August bank holiday. You know our government with bank holidays like and I'd say they delay the travel stuff as long as they can.

So basically what was expected but Ireland can veto it for 6 weeks and rule out travel for most of the summer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭Ms.Sunshine

Ok so we have information about the green card but still nothing about the Uk bubble ?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 442 ✭✭Feria40

Finally moving in the right direction. Let's see what roadmap the government lays out next week.

    2 cents

I expect that we will be able to travel during the potential 6 week implementation period but with PCR and home quarantine perhaps. Maybe an exclusion of sorts depending on vacation status.

After 6 weeks, full buy in to the new system provided there isn't a large uptick in hospitalisations

Well I think the big thing is how strong they were about countries not being able to pull out without some very strong criteria for it. To me it looks like it'll be a case that Ireland can't pull out if they're concerned about variants or case numbers unless ECDC and European Parliament agree it's bad somewhere.

On this thread we've seemed to assume that our main options out of Ireland were either Dublin or Belfast. But Ryanair are showing flights to Alicante from Shannon, Kerry and Knock from about mid June. And for really cheap fares.

Shannon or Kerry would suit me a lot better than Dublin. Would it be crazy to book? Will they get cancelled? Especially if the fine doesn't go. And if the fine doesn't go will we see guards parked there as well interrogating people! I know it's probably crystal ball stuff but I'd appreciate opinions. I'd like to move on a booking over the next few days. Thanks guys.

60 my area but if the pcr is an indicator, they will be cheaper in the like of malaga as pcr in my area is 110 and I think pcr is like 70ish?!?

Yeah they cancelled my flight at the end of the month as well. Back to Ryanair so

Will so far Ireland has bought in as it's a negotiated system. We had our man at the table and he agreed to this system.

Saying we will be 6 weeks behind is just logistical reality for us

Looking forward to seeing Irish hotels dropping their staycation “deals” after the news this evening.

Additionally with the weather we have witnessed today it’ll be a pleasure to side-step Ireland onto a plane for some real summer weather.

The flights for a fiver to Spain were so tempting. I jumped.

I don't want to lie to a guard. I am flexible. I might even go to the airport and turn around. I might not. I don't know. June 2nd will tell a lot.
