Just watched back on Youtube and thought it was fine, didn't notice any stand out vocal issues but am certainly not claiming to be an expert. Ok stage production not brilliant but is that the singer's fault ? Thought it was a catchy tune but didn't watch any others so can't compare.

The "special effects" were cat . Also she's throwing in the jaw rolled notes too, Like every other Irish pop singer at the moment.

Pretty honest review by the IT. Says the same as most on here

I was referring to the 2015 entry by Molly Sterling that the other poster mentioned - the jury results for this year won't be out until early Saturday morning at best.
    Ah apologies.
    Cracking song that one.

So Ireland have made the final....once in 8 years... absolutely awful record. Need a new team behind decision and preferably a national final not some afterthought shoved into the late late.

Just watched it now on YouTube. Jeez that was just awful. Vocals crap, never heard of this wan before last years song (I think she lives in New York), she seems like a bit of a fitness fanatic with all her running around the place. I think she entered the wrong competition, she should be going to the olympics in Tokyo to compete in the 10000 meters. She, and the horrible stage production were just scary. It reminded me of The Babadook.

I found the staging of Ireland’s song bizarre. I was surprised it was done by the same person who staged Mans’ song for Sweden, it was like a cheap knock-off of Heroes and had none of the slickness. It was like kid’s TV and when she was walking on the treadmill, it reminded me of Peter Kay’s video for Amarillo.

I actually though there was technical issues at the end where she moved away from the threadmill, and performed on her own, and you could see the treadmill and the rest of the equipment in the background. I actually thought she was improvising at that stage as something had gone wrong. It just didn’t make sense. Normally when you do something like that, there’s reveal or a wow moment or something, but that was just odd.

I think Ireland need to get a refund for the stage production. Littered with technical issues from the start, bad planning in making the lead singer & only visible person on stage go on treadmills for the performance, so many issues. Unless of course RTÉ decided to book the ‘Tesco value’ option instead the ‘luxury’ option when organising the staging.

We need to do something wacky but modern, like Lithuania this year and Iceland last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭jams100

It just looked so stupid when she stepped out of the paper world back into a normal camera shot and you could see all the props she was using. It just looked so amatureish.
It was a nice idea to try to something like that, it was just produced horribly. Surely she could just have had a greenscreen or something simpler instead?

I agree with others, she would have been better with nothing at all.
The problem with the euro vision is that it's all about the live version of the song and unfortunately she didn't sound as good live, in saying that she wasn't bad, I'd blame the production more

We need a big stage production..and loads of dancers and half naked women..them we will make it to final.

She didn't deserve to make the final. Her performance was one of the worst.

tried it with Jedward and it was about as good as we have done in the modern show

Lipstick came a respectable 8th. That's the best we've done in over 25 years since we last won. We always seem to be 10 or 15 years behind. No different this year.

That Italy song is a banger, I assume it'll win easily and rightly so.

I can't for the life of me see why France are second favourites. Ditto Malta being third favourites.

Fancy Ukraine for a top 3 finish

I just thought the Irish entry was a total car crash. The stage set up was embarrassing, it literally looked like something from a playschool.
The frantic rushing around the stage was bizarre and the vocals were so weak.

I know Marty Whelan is a freelancer but Jaysus, he'd want to be giving up that "shocked that we didn't get through" routine. Everyone in the country knew how bad it was. Is he so afraid of losing the gig?

I haven't watched the show in years, I just had a look at the Irish entry. It's totally lost its appeal for me anyway.

I thought the song was alright. But it's easy to see why it didn't get in the top 10 of the voting.

That's the thing. I actually like the song, but with that set up and performance, it hadn't a hope.

We keep trying to follow a the winning trends which means we end up with out of date songs.

Win or lose imagine how much more fun it would be if we threw out a mad one like Ukraine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭tobefrank321

Whoever selects the Irish entries needs to move with the times. No one over the age of 40 should have an input. Knowing rte its probably people in their 60s selecting the entry.
Song is only half of it anyways, staging is as important.
And with the staging last night it was almost like rte didnt want to win the eurovision. Again.

We just need a simple rock song with balls. No fancy bull**** stage show, just a good song with hooks and melody. Look at some of the entries Finland has had over the years.

We keep sending out bland, derivative pop songs by failed or unknown singer-songwriters. And they fail every time.

Let's try something different for us.

Even just settle for someone who can actually sing Jedward were able to get 8th so not that high a standard even required, or just give up on any vocals and just send out some young un either half dressed or tightly dressed.

Just to say there is a crowd called “this is pop baby” who were involved in the staging.

    They are sort of producers/choreographers

    Creative directors of the staging.

Anyway, the Irish song staging was brutal last night so “this is pop baby” shouldn’t be let within an arses roar of the Eurovision again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Losendos

One thing that should be done, but won't, because it's RTE, is to break the connection with the Late Late. The Bridie and Paddy audience who watch that are not the demographic to vote on modern Eurovision entries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,178 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

Also what is with the over pronunciation of “I” as “ayyye”

    ???

“Picture this”, that muck excuse for music also do this which is where I think LR copied it from

Thing is we hired a well regarded Eurovision set designer and Lesley is a successful song writer for other artists so it looks like we tried really hard this year which makes it worse

Who has she written songs for?

    Genuinely curious

I heard she's written for Katy Perry? I stand to be corrected

Irelands record over recent years clearly indicates that the selection process is not delivering .
Considering the costs incurred.in entering the contest why not reintroduce the traditional optiom.of running a tv selection contest and allow licence payers to have an opinion in selecting the entry. Rte gurus are presently picking their own entry and spending tv licence money on enteries that are not achieving results.

I must be the only person on this board who thinks IRELAND should have gone through, I thought the song and visuals were one of the nicer ones from last night (granted, not a terrific vocal performance on the night but that didn't stop some of the other countries getting through).

Definitely don't think we should been the expense of Cyprus, Sweden and Azerbaijariana Grande going through. I think Australia probably should have gone through as well.

You could record marty whelan and play it again year after year...rinse and repeat...

    Same aul bollex every year
