Poor staging but it was an almost impossible ask to qualify considering which countries could vote tonight, Eastern Bloc.

A voting block isn't the reason we haven't made the final. Our chosen acts/songs just haven't been strong enough to deserve a place in the final.

Not allowed play any instrumental, although the dress and the lyrically content could work in our favour. if they sang in irish with a screen inthe background depicting the mythological story there singing about i could see it doing really well!

Yep, character. That's what we need instead of the anaemia we usually send

300k max for three big blocks of TV...it's actually good value.
Rte need a new group of people picking the act, not good enough.
Yep, it's a pittance to pay for about 7 hours plus of telly and the viewing figures are big.

I would have been disappointed if it had been Ireland over Ukraine.

My wife and I have just decided that the formula for success is ‘go mental, but in a serious way’.

I.e., not too dull (e.g., tonight) but not too disrespectful (e.g., Dustin).

You can tell we don’t have a lot of big problems in our life

Disapointed that Croatia did not make it through. I agree our act was not good enough.

    Live long and Prosper

Who does pick the Eurovision act for Ireland as a matter of interest? I have to agree, ours is always so tame compared to other entrants.

Even Jedward have nothing on some of the zanier acts that always, always qualify.
I think a group of people mostly RTE heads.
We just don't take it seriously enough, Sweden it is massive especially the qualifying comp gets insane ratings.

One person I heard rumoured a few years back was Lyra. That is the type of act we should be aiming for.
    Irish, talented, a bit different.

Disappointed for Lesley, but the performance was poor, I was expecting them to perform again. The delay did her no favours.

Last years song was a better song, I think that would have done much better.
The staging was appalling and Roy's voice isnt able to sing that song live.

Would be surprised if they didn't win that semi

No surprises there for me. Belgium are seriously seriously underrated.

I hate when people go on about eastern bloc, our songs are just pure ****e and it’s as simple as that. We did decent enough the first year we sent Jedward because people found them interesting and the song wasn’t terrible. We’ve suffered since because we send manure though every year and think we deserve to get to finals on pure delusion. Nothing to do with eastern bloc and everything to do with picking shlte acts

The Irish entry was poor/looked dated.....Azerbaijan was pretty good...

The song last year....was dreadful imo.
A bad 2010 Katy Perry knock off.

We either have to go for a serious act or go wacky (not a puppet).

Australia a little hard done by considering that sweden song got through.
It's their own fault really being so far away.

    Everybody needs good neighbours.

    Exactly.
Even the second time we sent Jedward...with a worse song...we made the final and did ok ish.

At least that one last year was Eurovisiony

I could pick about 2 or 3 better songs than our entry from some of those scandi finals.
    Denmark
    Norway
Sweden (I'd say about 5 miles above our entry)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,363 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

This song for example...didn't finish in the top 3 in Denmark.
We just don't take it seriously enough, the team picking the act and song need fired.

Those born after 2000 might not realise there was a time people actually cared about the ESC even though it was very camp and weird prior at the best of times.

It was the introduction of televoting in the late 90's that really destroyed it as any credible event.

Nowadays it's a running joke that needs to be put out of it's misery.

Ireland's entry was a odds-on qualifier among virtually every single Eurovision media outlet. It wasn't the song that got us knocked out tonight.

    Absolute BS.

The standard of song is going up if anything. We can't just throw our toys out of the pram and play it as a joke with the crap we are sending in general
