Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone been confirmed for superintending 2021 yet? I presume the SEC were waiting to see how many people signed up for the accredited grades - good to hear all confirmation is online this year.

I got a letter saying thank you for applying in 2020, you'll be contacted at the end of March to see if you'd like to take up the position for 2021.

I got an email saying the same.

You could end up covering an empty room this year.

I don't think so. There mightn't be many sitting any particular exam in a school but there will be a few doing each one for a variety of different reasons. Nothing to lose anyway after the choices that were released this evening.

I've seen that the SEC have put out a request for more applications - especially in Dublin and surrounding counties. Anyone who applies should get the gig this year.

That email was laughable. First line was that they were satisfied with the numbers who had applied but were still willing to accept applications!

No. I think they were waiting for the portal to close.

    Oh ok!
I got an email from them on 1st April then a text on 2nd April but nothing since.

I usually get a week long centre. Hoping that I get a longer one this year as I'm in one of the supposed in demand counties where there is a shortage but I won't hold my breath.

I think all centres are staying open this year!

Does anyone know what the rate of pay was in 2019? Also how many days do you usually get recruited for?

    Not sure of 2019 but the older rates were (roughly);
Collect box and set up €280
    Each exam day €112
    All taxable.

Long day subsistence was something like €35 and short day was approx €17. These rates changed though in 2018 but not by much.
Mileage rates changed from engine size to total number of kms. I always want one close enough but more than 8km from my school and work so I get subsistence and mileage. I think I got 50c per km.
Subsistence and mileage are not taxable.
Generally you might of gotten 1 week but this year I heard they are not closing centres and transferring students. I have done the full stint before. By the last few exams you generally only have 1 exam but you get the €112 per day.
I am hoping to get an LCA centre that is not too far from me.

I'm signed up for superintendent and marking. Since all centres will run for the duration, am I likely to not get any superintending this year or will they push put marking conferences until after all exams? Anyone any insight. I usually do a week when I do get it, which isn't every year.

I am guessing marking conferences will be online. I know for my subject some have been on a Saturday this year!
I think it was over 2 days can’t remember which days.

Yes, I already got a letter saying the conference would be online. I mark English and the conference is always early so I'll assume I can't superintend and mark.

No idea! Unless you get an lca centre. In the previous school I superintended in they only had 4 days. So finished on the Monday.

Anyone had any news re appointments for superintending ? They said in the reply email that we’d hear if we were appointed by the end of April and reserve lists by mid May. No word here yet.

Heard nothing yet either. That email said appointments end of April and assignment to a centre in mid May. So maybe they will do it all at once.

To be honest I don't know as I've never got it before, but either A) they are only releasing papers in small batches in case a superintendent gets covid or a centre needs to be shut down due to covid is my guess or B) payment to collect papers is an incentive to do the work.

  • Registered Users Posts: 46 Tiredteach

That’s how they did it for the November exams, only the school collected the box on the three Sundays but I did the check for content as I had the key. Think it’s to stop the big crowd at distribution centre.

Just got my email there too. Now to hear if I got examining.

50 euro for PPE. Is that just for the superintendent or do we keep emergency masks for the candidates. I’m assuming some disinfectant spray for your desk or candidates desks?

I was thinking the same myself!

Does anyone know the 2020 rates for mileage and subsistence?

    Nothing yet for me.

It’ll be the week before the end like other years. Curious to see where I’ll get. They randomly moved me last year after a a good few years in the same place.

No I asked yesterday as I need to organise childcare. They said said it will be “shortly”.

I received a letter today requesting payment details, is this confirmation I will get some days superintending or is it a blanket letter sent to all applicants?

My wife got an email from SEC this evening confirming her appointment and some details re training they will need to undertake. The email also says center numbers etc will be issue next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,729 ✭✭✭Millem

    Dear Superintendent,

Thank you for accepting an appointment as Superintendent for the 2021 examinations. We are currently in the process of assigning superintendents to centres and you will be notified early next week of your centre number, location and distribution hub details.

For 2021, the SEC has prepared a training video for Superintendents about the conduct of the examinations. In advance of taking up duty all superintendents are required to view the training video and read the General Instructions to Superintendents 2021. Further details in relation to the General Instructions and the training video will issue in your assignment letter.

Combined Media are contracted by the SEC to provide support for the training of Superintendents for the 2021 examinations. You will receive an email invitation from Combined Media to register for, and complete, online Superintendent training closer to the commencement of the examinations. (Please check your junk, spam and promotional mail folders in case the invitation is delivered there). As a condition of your employment as a Superintendent for the state examinations you are required to watch all sections of the training material provided. You will be required to sign, and return, a declaration confirming same at the conclusion of your work (this form will be provided to you in the pack of materials that you will receive on the day you pick up your examination papers from the distribution hub). Once all sections of the training material have been watched initially, individual sections can be re-watched at any time throughout your employment as a Superintendent.

The system maintains a record of the training engaged with by each Superintendent.

It is necessary for us to share with Combined Media, your name and email address, in order for you to participate in the Superintendent training. As part of our Data Privacy Notice, we collect, process and store your personal data as a Superintendent, to discharge the statutory functions of the SEC which includes the sharing of this data with third parties. We will amend the data sharing section of our Record of Processing Activities (ROPA) on our website, to include Combined Media for the 2021 Examinations.

Thank you for your cooperation in relation to this matter.

    Yours sincerely,

    Superintendents Section

Just got this in an email at 23.19!!

Same here. I wonder how this training is different than the other video we’ve watched previously.

Does anyone know what happens if we get a date for the vaccine during the exam period? I know normally if you miss a day, they hire a replacement and do they your whole stint then. Will it be the same or will they make an exception?

I applied for the late application on May 7th.
Nothing back. It's a bit of a joke.
I had not applied last year thus the late application route.
Am I just expected to keep availability on the chance I might hear from them the week before?
I recall years ago they screwed supervisors by changing the milage from home to your school.
    Whichever was shorter.
    Is that still the case??

This is still the case with the mileage yeah, it's very unfair

Yes. I always request 8km from school and home or else it’s not worth my while. I am minus money as I have to pay for childcare. I am in Dublin.
I usually make the same money for mileage and subsistence as I do for net pay for exams.

I applied late too after they put out the request for superintendents in my county and I got confirmation on the 12th so I doubt you'd be called at this stage if you haven't been contacted already.

Thanks Alex. I posted my application on May 5th express post but who knows.
Can I ask what area you are in?
I wonder if that made a difference.
    I'm Dublin.

I sent the application through email on the 6th. I'm not in Dublin.

I just rang them. Assignment letters for those who had applied last year 2020 are going out this week. Thus I might still be called later this week.
It's a bit of a mess but perhaps it will all come together!
The lady I spoke to said The may 7th applicants are back up but that's not the way it was presented.
    She was not entirely clear.

Another question :what are the expenses like this year?
Because of extra collections does that mean extra expenses?!

‘Early next week’ is not today. My post just came. Nothing from SEC

Might we get this by email again since we have been getting more correspondence by email ?
