    +437 new cases
    +1 death
Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer said: “As a country, we have now given a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 25% of eligible adults. In order to protect the vital work of the vaccination programme in offering us all protection from COVID-19, it is important we continue to remain vigilant and careful. Right now, we need to protect the progress we have made together.

“While we should remain cautious, we can also be cautiously optimistic. Our vaccination programme, alongside the continued commendable adherence of the vast majority of people in Ireland to the public health advice, are the key to exiting this pandemic in the coming months. However, doing things like mixing indoors when disease is still circulating at a high level puts our progress at risk. Please continue to act in the best interests of one another and be safe when socialising.”

Golf, tennis etc are back too.

If they didn't show it we've have the complaints that RTE only show the negative news.

    You can't please everybody.

I just get annoyed with rte showing children on the news full stop. They're not cute, they're not interesting and it's not news.

If this summer is taken from us it will be a really sad time to be Irish. What makes us so different from the rest of the world?

If this summer is taken from is people will just book foreign holidays

Not trying to be smart but what's the etc? All I see is outdoor sports facilities reopen, such as pitches, golf courses and tennis courts.

You can get apps for your phone that allow you to only show the news items you want to see.

I think most won't be happy until nephet recommend that the government open the pubs. Down with dog dirt etc. Is DNA dog dirt testing a bridge too far? Doesn't it make kids blind?

    No
I know it's small, but seeing the kids on the news delighted to be back to sports and dancing classes put a big smile in my face.

    100%

Should never have been taken away from them to begin with

All age groups should be permitted to play. I'm envious of them tbh

Only annoyance is they should have returned to training at least a month ago and all adults should be back in training now.

No great triumph, it's such a low risk activity to get up and running.

    Well, soccer pitches, hockey pitches....

Pedantic much? The point is there is more open for sport than underage training; which was the point of the post.

Not being pedantic at all. You say soccer pitches are open. Can myself and a bunch of friends head out and play a game so?

Link I saw mentioned outdoor sports facilities and non-contact sports. So I don't see how opening soccer pitches helps anyone.

62 cases in Donegal today. 3% of the population, 14.4% of todays cases. Highest incidence rate in the country by some way with 288.33. Kildare next at 209.88.

    The Hi Sir variant?

Apparently its AZ only, which is useless to most of us here.

Hope they send a majority of it to India tbh

Given what India are facing it'll be welcome. Very welcome.

edit: the particular tweet about being proud is ambiguous.
They banned export of raw materials which affected the serum institute i.e the largest producers of vaccines in the world who happen to be based in India.

Being stuck next to your county has been the issue for a lot of it

It's still not approved in the US. They haven't applied!

The "it's the border" theory getting debunked quite thoroughly there.

I’ve being going to pitches and playing a game for the past couple of months, not sure why you can’t

Well the places where I usually play are closed. And as far as I know non-contact is still against, eh, the rules.

I see good old Jim has thanked your post but failed to answer my question.

Thats fair enough. Absolutely ridiculous that it’s ‘against the rules’. There is no danger in outdoor sports activities but the government are too afraid to act. Great to see adults having a bit of sense and breaking said rules

What more do you want, good old sterz? The pitches are open. You can kick a ball about with a couple of mates. I left it at that because it's way off the topic being originally replied to.
