Totally agree. you would have thought at this stage, with the public opinion well and truly turned that they would all just announce they were opening in the morning and be done with it. The gardai can't close everyone down.

When publicans are recieving up to 5k a week to stay close depending on previous income obviously....why would you want to reopen ?

Exactly. Its why the pub owners are not going mental. They are receiving a % of previous revenue with very little costs. Their staff are all on pup..dont need stock....commercial rates paused e.t.c while I'm sure they would like to be open they arent pushing it as they are being looked after.

You do know they can fly to Spain on their holidays, where as we can stand in a field with another person as long neither of us own the field. I'd swap any day with them.

And you know the opening of Germanys own tourism sector is prosponed due to rise in the rate of infection there

Whilst we're swapping anecdotes. Apparently the Spanish can stand in a field but have to wear a mask to do so.

    No there not.

10% of average weekly turnover in 2019 up to €20,000
5% of average weekly turnover in 2019 in excess of €20,000

It means **** all to them, particularly counry pubs.

Your making it out like there well looked over.

Isn't that *income just a form of loan that will have to be repaid with interest slapped on? (A lot of bankruptcies on the way).

What % of pubs do you think are getting 5k a week?

All publicans should be worried about is how drinking habits have changed. People are now going to other people's houses and will realise the money saved in the pocket the longer this goes on.

Did you read what I said depending on previous income. Let's take a rural pub in Clare for example, their income for the month might be 5k how they are getting 700 a week plus income supplement. It's a no brainer. Also every city center pub is getting the 5k a week no doubt

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 222 ✭✭Batattackrat

There getting 10% of weekly taking for 2019.

Yea pubs are minted now getting that 10%

Why is construction still partly closed? The UK and Israel didn't have a 5km or county travel restriction either. By that metric, we are 'doing our own thing'.

Not sure what your point is but yeah that was the point. We're doing are own thing. But apparently that's not good enough - and we should open up "now"!

But to digress ' afaik the 5km was gone last time I checked. Construction on major infrastructure and residential projects is now open. And if I remember correctly- the UK had stay at home and exercise local restrictions. And Israelis were not allowed to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

But back to the original point about people who demand we should open up 'now' - what's your take on that?

Btw as an aside- Interesting you mentioned construction btw. Apparently the Intel site has been reported as having a significant confirmed outbreak with the number of confirmed cases having risen today to 85.

The Irish variant, no vaccine will help, only cure is an utter annihilation of the economy, destruction of the populations mental health and an infinite lockdown.

They'll be open long before September.

Beer gardens in June or sooner, and indoor from July.

There not gonna keep us locked up all summer for fear of some variant that the vacinne is not 90% effective against in winter.

75% of counties should be at level 2 right now.

If you took Dublin out of the equation our numbers are excellent.

My social anxiety is worse than ever as as a result of lockdown. I had it in the past but its gone back to been worse than it ever was.

I just want to get into my regular routine again, probably take me a few months to get out of it when we are back to normal.

Few outdoor pints was torturous 2nite with friends.

Your implying, with great confidence I may add, something that you have completely made up and the very opposite of what’s being said by those in authority

They will keep us locked up without issue “just in case”

The fact they still believe case numbers hold relevance with vulnerable and HCWs vaccinated will be an indication of the path the rest of the year will follow.

You can't understand why numbers are higher when you cram 30% of the population into 8% of the space?
