Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Capital Cities of the World - PEEHS [Closing: 30th April]

So, we did the flags, how well do you know your world capital cities?

PEEHS is like a game of Pointless. We're looking for the least popular answer here. The winner will be the player with the fewest points at the end. Your score each round will be the number of people who match your answer.

Incorrect answers will score 1.5 times the most popular answer.

Google or other research is not allowed.

Please PM me your answers. Do not post your answers on the thread. No need to number your answers, or say which country you're answering for. Just a list of 15 different answers, one per round, will suffice.

It is the official or de jure capital required. A few of the more disputed capital cities have been excluded to avoid controversy.

Spellings do not need to be 100%. If I can figure out what name you're trying to go for, you'll get the point.

We have 15 rounds. Reveal date tba, depending on number of entrires received.

    Here we go:

    Hahahahaha!!!
I have given up trying to figure out Peehs beakerjoe. A complete minefield.
I knew a couple of (what I would consider) obscure ones, the rest I think will be middle of the rod, not peehs but not sheep either.

The biggest difficulty I had was that I have learned these capitals in Greek decades ago, so I am translating in English based on the Greek pronuncation. I'm bound to have some incorrect, hopefully they will be close enough to the correct ones so I donlt get punished :)

Go with your gut.....its the only way to go with Sheep, Peehs, Heeps...etc.

My biggest issue is spelling, thankfully QB doenst mind too much.

Never done one of these before, but I'm in. I'm sure ye've all worked out the best ratio of obscure-to-obvious answers for this, but I've gone and waded right in there, so I'm going to bomb this I'm sure :p

The only thing we can be sure of when trying to work out what everyone else will do is that somebody will answer Cork for the Irish one.

Well, I kept it to 15 rounds x 8 countries, so 120 in total. Technically there could be another 9 rounds added, or done in a separate game......

    Ah feck off!

Correctly identifying capital cities is a strong subject for me.
Choosing good PEEHS answers, however, is a far more difficult prospect.

Could one enter two lists of answers for this?

To test a theory, like...... be interested to see which would do better.... rest assured that on past performance indicators, neither would have a snowball's chance in hell of winning!

Theoretically I have no issue with two submissions. Could someone clever than me advise if this would result in an unfair advantage, and disadvantage other contestents?

Eeep my geography is woeful, but I'm in, and hopefully I'll learn some new capitals in the reveal!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Okay, am thinking that two entries probably not a good idea - you'd know to avoid duplicates between the two enteries which isn't someting that any other player can benefit from.

You could run the test without entering, just compare your answers after the reveal.

What's the penalty for asking is the more pertinent question I feel.

If Heidi, or anyone, wants to send a second set, I can plug in to the sheepulator after the contest and let them know the effect it would have had if they were included instead of, or as well as the original, official answers submitted.

I wasn't trying to rig or game my entry, honest!!

Yeah, I get why two entries might/would skew the results.

Never did one of these. So I just PM quickbeam with the least popular capital in each of 15 sets? And whats a PEEHS?

Yep, what you think is the most obscure or least popular capital in each group. The fewer people who agree with you, the lower your score for that round. Lowest overall score wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

    Cool, should be easy enoug...

Oh damn, UK and Ireland are in the same group. That's one correct answer less

One thing I've found is people often go for the most obscure answer , meaning it scores low while they avoid the 'obvious ' ,hence high scoring , answer!
    I think.

    I think.

In Peehs you want to score low though. So unless by low you mean bad which is actually high. But then if you go for obvious and score low meaning good, then others might try that strategy too and then obvious becomes high meaning bad so you should actually go for obscure after all.

    :P
