As if that would have been up and running by September.

Christ almighty...almost 18 months will have passed and Ireland, yet again, have nothing ready.

A complete international embarrassment that they can't get anything like this ready in that time frame. What the hell have they been doing? Sitting on their holes and wishing for this to all go away? I just can't get my head around the complete ineptness of this government at times.

It sounds like a massive f*ck up but provided perfect cover for the wink and nod misappropriation that we've seen.

True enough, the top brass in the civil service are bigger leaches on society than lifetime dole scroungers.

I was hoping to go to NY for a couple of weeks in June, but that's probably not happening now.

You will also need a negative PCR covid test before you fly back.

Hang on, one part of the indo article states:

"The ‘Digital Green Certificates’ will allow people to travel throughout the EU once they are vaccinated"

While earlier in the article it says Negative PCR, immunity or vaccine.

Is this just poor journalism or are they intentionally blurring the lines at this stage?!

Edit: And yes how in the name of F is there not a digital system for tracking vacination. Sweet lord

It's either deliberate misreporting or just a genuine mistake where they 'round up' the meaning to what most people seem to call it, however inaccurate.

Yes it seems in every Irish publication it has become a vacination passport. FFS

Don't get me wrong, I'll be first in line when my time comes for the jab but of for example it hasn't come by late summer I will happily travel with a neg PCR

So mid July is the compromise. I wonder if member states have a further 'implementation' period on top of that?

Hopefully not. Hopefully Stevie Donnelly gets shown up even more for his outrageous incompetence.

I was of the opinion that the compromise was its ready to go for start of June but countries get 6 weeks grace to implement it.

“” The High Court has ruled that a South African woman who challenged her detention in hotel quarantine is being detained lawfully.””

“” Mr Justice Brian O'Moore said he had come to the view that the legislation being challenged on her behalf did not breach the Constitution.””

Looks like quarantine is here to stay for sure.

Mid may is when UK are hoping to restart international travel so Belfast will come into play, although the inter county travel archaic stubbornness will slow (not stop) that for sure. End of June, start of July is best I can see here with the adversity to the Green Pass, and will probably be later.

Have family and friends abroad (Netherlands, Belgium) some who have suffered adversely in all of this so looking forward to heading to them for a while.

August/September hopefully. Will be a last minute booking though

Same as that. Am hopeful that we will get away end august or early September. Should be good value and hopefully less crowds this year if we do manage to escape. That said, I'm not sure I will chance it if MHQ is still hanging around, their ability to change it on a whim is terrifying. Guess via Belfast is probably the way to go....

I see scumbag Donnelly has tweeted that if you are vaccinated you can escape hotel prison now, if you also provide a negative test.

The EU green travel cert will mean you can travel freely with proof of vaccination OR a negative test, but in Ireland apparently you need both. And even then, you're expected to quarantine at home aswell.

    Jokers.

I'm perfectly healthy, only reason I'm interested in getting the vaccine is to travel without all that nonsense. If I was only going to Ireland I wouldn't bother with a vaccine now, pointless.

I'm not surprised this is the one legal challenge the government decided to see to the end. South Africa is non-EU, has a well-known variant and is also on the UK red list, so the case for saying it should be off Ireland's list isn't too strong.

Legal challenges will no doubt continue for those coming from other countries whose inclusion in the list is pretty dubious!

Another charming little feature of the hotel quarantine system is casually mentioned in this article:

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/state-willpayquarantine-costs-for-people-who-say-theycant-afford-1875-bill-40326145.html

You may have your PCR test within 72 hours of your landing time, but if your flight is delayed and you arrive after the 72 hours - IT'S OFF TO THE CAN FOR YOU!

Slightly off topic but how can people afford these legal challenges? Surely its much cheaper just to do the time quarantine.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Exactly. Her case was a HC single judge review. The “Dubai 2” however have a pending judicial review which will scrutinise things further

What's the process 're exemption from hotel quarantine if fully vaccinated?

Does the airline acknowledge it on check in? I.e. do you then not have to have a hotel booking made? Or do you still have to book but then you're exempted and refunded on arrival when border processes check your status?

Also how does an Irish person prove they are vaccinated anyway? Is there a document they would have from their vaccine appointment even? Or do the airlines or border staff make phone calls to check? God love them if so as the HSE themselves havent figured this out yet for their own staff. This could be the next legal challenge. The inability to prove status anyway due to our archaic IT infrastructure.

The gov.ie page isnt updated with any of this but perhaps it's published elsewhere.

I've done the vaccination before travel bit only this week. You get emailed a cert that you show before boarding to prove you have a negative PCR result and have to show it again on arrival.

Its not a particularly fraud proof system but if anyone was thought to be trying to get around it then there is enough security built into the system to trace the the cert. For example you need to register passport details including a picture of your passport, your passport number would be on the cert.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Interesting. Who emails you the cert?

I did mine through Boots chemist in the UK. They test and send it off then the testing company (Eurofins in this case) send you the cert. You have to register your passport info with the testing company and then Boots check your passport before the test.

It would be easy to falsify a test cert but just as easy to check up and see if a test was false or not. With long queues at travel hubs I don't see there will be too much checking provided the basic details are correct.

If anyone has experience of testing with other companies please post your experience. Boots was expensive but easy once I'd work out how it all worked - you need 2 accounts set up one for the testing company and other for Boots.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Oh yeah you're talking about for testing. I mean for being vaccinated. What is the process for proving you are vaccinated?
