    Love these Avensis.

Seen this one around, very clean example, daily driver, small bit of lacquer peel on the bonnet is the only negative I've seen on it.

That's dreamer money I bought a 01 back in 2012 for 600 quid from Colm!

Not in the current market...... Fire on a set of TSW Stealths and Bosch lowering springs and you'll get some young buck to buy it.

That 308 is terrible. Within 60 seconds I figured the flywheel was wobbling, a bit later found 4th gear knackered and, after the immediate u-turn, the clutch is worn.

None of this admitted by seller.

Everything about it was dodge from the moment I met the guy, but I stuck it out to see how bad it could get. I wasnt disappointed.

It's an €800 auction fixer upper. At least they werent off the mark on asking.

Fair play for posting the update.

Might be a bit strong, but not dreamer money I think. I've seen it around as I say, seems very straight, and prices for these are strong, as is posted above I've also seen young lads work these tarting them up of late, so there is a market for these.
These late model Avensis are a fine machine on the road, easy enough ran, and mechanically sound.

    I didn’t charge you enough.

I was a bit surprised when I asked you how much! The beauty of that car was when I crashed it(not my fault) insurance valued it at €2500 and offered me the car for €200 scrap value and I had it fixed for €700..:P

I was told in no uncertain terms that I had too many cars around the house. I think I had a 323, Avensis and Jag at that point as well as her car, so it had to go!

Should I just stick up online for 500 or is there somewhere i can bring for a couple of hundred that will pay me for the car?

I have no interest in putting any money into it. I'm going for a 2010 corolla so just wondering any advice on the honda?
If you weigh it in for scrap you'll be lucky to get €100 for it. There's next to no money in scrapping a car.

If you can tolerate silly offers you could put it on Donedeal or adverts for €500 and see if you get any bites

Going to look at this for myself hopefully tomorrow. no current nct not sure if it has an extension, needs few jobs for re-test biggest concern emissions fail says excessive smoke?

Its a 1l petrol never saw that fail attached to a petrol car before!

Ideal and perhaps plausible reason might be the car being not next not near operating temp on a cold morning maybe.

That or it's f*cked and not worth €80

But the rest of that fail sheet screams someone that hasn't a notion about bringing a car for a test so anything is possible.

    Could be burning oil.

    ....... if it got it!

I'd be worried about how well that's been looked after, if it was just fvcked into the test center without even removing the hub caps. As said, possibly someone without one motion about keeping a car. It's one thing just testing and seeing what needed to be done, but it doesn't give much confidence in how well it was serviced or looked after beforehand.

Probably a bit above the bageromics threshold, but are these any good?
I intend using it for house renovation and Ikea trips. Can the seats be taken out?

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2008-mitsubishi-grandis-diesel-7-seater-new-nct/27491296

Or keeping it more bangeromics , would this 09 S Max be better?

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/09-ford-s-max-1-8-tdci-zetec-model-nct-9-21/27704900

    or the Galaxy
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2008-ford-galaxy-1-8-diesel-new-nct-tax/27507919

Or this 08 Scenic for 1,150 , but the seller might be a car flipper with 360 previous adverts, I'd be dubious he's selling on problem.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/renault-scenic-08/27772225

Would this newer Scenic be best at 1k more.
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2009-renault-grand-scenic-nct-07-22/27762069

    Buy a van.

Have you ever driven a van? Once you get used to them they're very comfortable to drive, they're designed to be driven. They're also designed for working - load carrying, being horsed about etc. If you're talking about doing any serious kind of work on the house it's a far better option. There's a reason why your plumber doesn't show up at the gate in a Renault Scenic with the seats down.

If you need a 7 seater that you can occasionally put a wardrobe or something in the back of have at it - otherwise van all the way.

Yep drove a transit a few years back and it was very comfortable. The seating position is like on a chair with your legs down on pedals unlike my current car with Recarro bucket seats where your so low and your legs stretched out in front of you not comfortable for long drives at all.

Maybe not your gate but I know a plumber who has had everything bar a Van for his job and one of them was a Scenic van full to the mebs with plumbing gear.
Before that he had small cars like Opel Agila took the seats out and used it as a van. Last time I seen him he had a Dacia Sandero van. That is probably changed to something else now do as he changes cars more times than can keep count at least he used too.

Comfortable a transit lol. That is the last thing I would say about them. The seating position in them is just horrible. Ford do great cars but terrible Van's. Now if you want a good comfortable van a VW Transporter is your man. VW might be terrible at cars but they make great Van's

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Sounds like a right pain in the arse for a workman, I can see why literally all of the other ones on earth just buy a van.

Vehicles are designed for a purpose, throw a dozen bags of cement in the back of your Scenic and tell us how she drives. Be about as comfortable as the 5 children it was designed to carry would be in the back of a Berlingo.

Disagree on the Transit as well, I had an 06 Hi-cube LWB RWD and it was a joy to drive.

Yes I rented vans before. A transit (which was nice being the 2.2) and a Vivario. I found as a tall person leg space was limited as you couldn't recline the seat or push the seat back much. Also visibility was an issue obviously when reversing.

I'm not a tradesperson either so ill have to pay private tax, insurance, and also I won't be keeping tools etc in the van as tradespersons do. I just need a big cargo space for carrying bulky items for house renovations. I'm not driving onto a building site nor do I need shelving units installed in the van to keep tools etc nor will tools be kept in the van.

Summing up my needs, a 09 onwards 7 seater Scenic seems to tick all my requirements

This Astra looks ok for the price. Seems to be a bit of NCT but no tax. I wouldn't be giving the full €750 for no tax but if you were in a bind it might tie you over.

Thoughts on this? Tax is out a month now so technically not bangernomics, but looking for some insight

If they are similar alloys to the Mazda 3 i had of that year, the alloys start to bubble with corrosion but since its bangernnomics, doubt it will even bother you :)
Stripes definitely need to go, although you might lose some bhp if you do :D

Since when did no tax exclude a car from the thread ?. Is this something I missed ?
